Yep. I was actually shopping on the site filling up my cart and everything changed. Bummer.

I got Sweet Smell of Success, Blow Out, and White Material from Amazon for $61 with free shipping. Received them in four days. Don't have to wait for B&N sale on some titles. Some good deals at Amazon.

Is deep discount really as bad as some people are saying?

I have purchased BD's from them in the past on several occasions and have never had any problems. My experience with them is rather limited though. (approx. 10 or so orders over a couple of years)

They definitely were in the past, but they have new owners or management, and many people will tell you that they are much better now. I guess we will soon know...

Last year, it took something like 4 months (not exaggerating) to get a backordered item, despite it saying it was in stock for that whole time on their website.

It is hugely variable what kind of experience you have. I only order from them when I get deals that I wouldn't be able to get on titles somewhere else.

That said, I impulse bought Kiss Me Deadly last night. The game will be if it arrives before the B&N sale starts.

Last september I ordered two films that were in stock....and canceled the order in December after hearing no word from DD. To their credit, they canceled my order right away without any trouble when I sent them an email.

this is my first order from them since mid summer of last year... I'm interested to see how it goes. The first thing I've noticed is that items out of stock at least give an eta (5-10 days). Before you had no idea how long it would take (and as has already been said... it can take a lonnnggggg time!)

Last summer I ordered the Wallace and Gromit Collection from them. It was back ordered, but they shipped it in about two weeks, and then it took about four or five days to arrive. I think shipping time depends a lot on your location, since they use the USPS.

If you missed the low prices this afternoon on Deep Discount, they're currently up again at DVD Planet, including Kiss Me Deadly. High prices are still showing in search results, but if you add them to your cart the cheaper prices are there.

Yes, they are terrible.
I swore them off after their Labor Day 2010 sale. (I should have before then.) I was going half-sies with a friend on their BOGO sale. I chose Tommy and my friend chose A Few Good Men. They shipped her movie fairly quickly and never sent mine. We waited over two months and it was still out of stock. Luckily, they are so unorganized they never charged her. She wrote to them and they told her to pick a different movie equal to or less than the price of the one she ordered. I gave her an alternative and then they told her they could not substitute another movie. They agreed to cancel the order, and my friend never ended up paying. So, it was nice she didn't have to pay, but it was still frustrating.

Also, one time I ordered a Deep Purple CD and they sent me a Paul Gilbert CD. I had to mail it back to them (at their expense at least) and wait for their slow-ass shipping to send me the correct item (which had a cracked case).

They used to be good for deals like five years ago but they just turned to crap, and I will loudly proclaim my unhappiness with them.

Just finished watching Kiss Me Deadly. I really really enjoyed it. Ralph Meeker was excellent. I always love films like this.

Last time I bought from them was late 2010. Probably made around 8 or so orders with them and their shipping time ranged from 2 weeks to around 2 months. Also received the wrong item on two occasions. Since my last order I've heard their shipping times have improved somewhat, but are still generally worse than almost every other online retailer. I refuse to buy from them unless I'm certain from others that they have significantly improved customer service.

And I consider myself somewhat of a movie buff but in this list I hardly recognize any of these movies but I definetly wanna add to my criterion list.

I'm 24 years old so I don't know if it's because these are older movies or foreign ( doesn't matter which I'm a fan)

But long story short if you guys had a top 5 list of criterion movies I should add what would it be???
1. I'm counting the BBS Box set as one, even though it's 7 films. Head is may favourite out of the set, as it's my favourite film
2. Bigger than Life
3. Charade
4. The Leopard
5. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

I believe they are the same company, or at the very least sister companies.

I've placed probably 10-15 orders with Deep Discount in the past 5 or 6 years and have never once had an issue. Never received an incorrect item and the longest I ever had to wait for an order to arrive was maybe three weeks. Hearing everyone else's stories I guess I've been lucky.

They're not quite the same place since last November, since they went under new management. So, bad experiences in the past aside (and we probably all have our stories), they seemed to have cleaned up their act somewhat.

But they have moved to my only if there are no other options list in recent years, and to date I have had little reason to change that (primarily due to quicker order turnarounds and/or better packing practices by other companies).

Also, given that their current big sale doesn't include much that I am interested in (and a lot of what I am interested in is not on sale this time around), it looks like I may be on the verge of skipping it altogether, which would be a first for me, since I've participated in all of them over the years, often to excess.
