Watched the Slammin Salmon tonight. Definitely the best from those Broken Lizard guys since Super Troopers. Duncan is very funny in this movie which adds to the typical laughs from the Broken Lizard troop. I gave it a 4/5.

Your comments about Walkabout are good. I thought some of those things were "odd", but certainly possible. The lack of emotion seemed weird, but could that happen? Absolutely. And it didnt ruin the movie for me. Also, Walkabout is an deliberately artistic film. Walkabout is as much about the FILM as it is about the story.
If I recall, we never got a "Squid-Score" , 3/5? 2/5? BTW, great insight about it being as much about the film as the story. I assume you mean the cinematography and techniques used (many of which I know you didn't care for)

Real? Whats real? Who defines whats real? This will sound arrogant, but here goes...

Some of the events in The Hurt Locker "could physically happen", my gripe is that they never ever ever would, in the real world, period.

The scene where they
[Show spoiler]get drunk and have a bonding "punch party" would never happen.
That would never happen. It has nothing to do with military reality, its just simple real world life.
I see your point. "would never happen" is definitely not realistic, provided thats true. I don't mean to suggest that even a 1% counts as realistic, it would have to be at least reasonably possible, and not merely remote, for me to give it the "realistic" label.

My beef about his behavior being tolerated stems more from his equals than his superiors. And no, ther is NO confusion between should have, and would have, and thats where the film failed. Let me be clear, It is 99% more likely that his peers would have solved "the behavior problem" rather than his superiors.
I guess one could argue that there is a remote possibility of his peers tolerating him, but i agree this would be unlikely given how well you frame the scenario.

Thumbs up

Just got back from seeing Prince of Persia, and was absolutely stunned by how much I enjoyed it exciting, hardly a dull moment, fun, great action scenes
[Show spoiler]especially the dagger fight
. I personally rank it up there with Iron Man 2 (I'm sure that's not the popular opinion though)

I honestly feel bad about how little it made considering the huge amount of money it cost to make, I think reviews were VERY overly critical. If anyone reading this hasn't seen it, and enjoyed movies like Pirates of the Caribbean, this is a no-brainer fantastic movie!

9/10 (I would have liked a different ending personally)

Patriot Games - First time viewing this film. I was expecting a bit more from what I heard over the years about this film. It was a pretty good cop/terrorist thriller but nuthin more than that. Harrison is always par for the course with his performances and Sean Bean is always great as a bad guy. Nuthin really stood out as far as the story or plot goes. It did have its moments of suspense but not many. I did enjoy it although at times it dragged for me.

Film Rating - 3 stars (out of 5)

Got Em!!

Mulholland Drive (DVD)

Film: 5/5
-this was my second viewing. I found Isaachaze's explanation here: https://forum.blu-ray.com/movies/102...ml#post3333543
to be pretty spot-on. A few details remain, such as
[Show spoiler]who are the old couple? why are they chasing her down at the end? is that symbolizing just her insanity? when did the dream commence, relative to the killing of her ex-lesbian lover? I assume the dream commenced after she received the blue key and thus after her lover was killed by the hitman. That way, her dream could envision a more-positive outcome, hence why her ex's hitman in the dream botched the killing, etc.

-my first Lynch film and I'm a HUGE fan already! His camera work just sucks me in. I can't put my finger on it but I was totally hypnotized by the direction from scene 1...and that SCORE!!! OMG...the synthesized intro track is still in my head..so eerie as the limo drives up the California-characteristic urban roads on steep hills with plush vegetation all around.
-I could watch this film once a week for the next month and be on the edge of my seat each time
-I had crazy dreams last night after watching about an hour of it

^^^ This one's on my rent list somewhere. Sounds fascinating.

Anyway, last night I watched "Lady Vengeance."

Chan-wook Park's style is as strong as ever, with decent cameramanship and slick editing. The characters are not bad. But when it comes to the story, I found myself a little confused; the film flips back and forth often, making it a little harder for me to follow. I would almost call it convoluted, but it came together pretty well in the end. My only other complaint is that the film seems longer, slower, and much more melodramatic (and ultimately less entertaining) than "Oldboy" or "Mr Vengeance." It's not a bad film, but I think it's my least favorite of the Vengeance trilogy.

3.5/5 (entertainment: 3/5, story: 3.5/5, film: 4.5/5) (yeah I know it comes out to 3.67, but I rounded down)

Dune

I bought this movie having remembered watching it years ago and enjoying it.... I was mistaken, I must have enjoyed either a tv show or another spin off movie of the original Dune. The story and trying to keep track of all the factions involved and who was plotting against who was a little too much. I enjoyed the last half of the movie more than the first. I thought it looked pretty good on blu ray, some of the sets stood out pretty bad, but the costumes and sound really benefited from HD. I did fall asleep sometime during the last hour or so, I will have to give it another viewing but this time a little earlier in the night.

Still my favorite film of all time. I am glad you enjoyed it again on your second viewing. I love so many scenes:

Winkies
Cappuccino
Cowboy
Hit
Kesher/Pool Guy
Silencio
Box

The mood is incredible throughout. I like the mystery and the possible interpretations. The bizarre sense of humor is right up my alley too.

My interpretation with spoilers...

Just in three months!!!! There's a chance that this will be region free too.
I'll finally get to see it, big fan of Lynch.

You must have seen the Sci-Fi channel miniseries before; it does handle the story and characters a lot better and more closer to the original novel. The "Children of Dune" miniseries was even better! My only complaint about those is that their sets and SFX are even cheaper than the old film's!

I've always been a fan of David Lynch's original film. Maybe not the best adaptation, but it's wild.

I think it was Children of Dune that I watched before. I will give this movie another try when I can pay more attention as I do enjoy Lynch's other films, I put it on pretty late without checking the run time.

Yeah, I think you'll like it. It's in the same arena as Memento, Shutter Island, etc., (i.e., where the viewer attempts to decipher subjective reality of the character v. objective reality). Obviously, it requires more mental gymnastics than most films, but with a huge payoff (i.e., I put in 10, I get back 100...with a Michael Bay film: I put in 1, I might get back 1 ) I'd rather put in 10 times the work, and get back 100 times the enjoyment! Not for everyone, but for those of us willing to do the work
(and it was already done for us!! so no excuses! thanks Isaachaze and Steve46!)

Great interpretation Steve! You had details that weren't in Isaachaze's post. thanks for explaining that
[Show spoiler]the old couple is her conscience, that makes sense!
, but I don't get what you mean by
[Show spoiler]her not getting the part and envisioning kesher being forced by the mob to exclude her, as a way to rationalize her failure...i thought she never auditioned for kesser in the dream? she auditioned for that old loser director, then walked over to kesser to meet him, but never did and left?
. Also do you think that
[Show spoiler]her dream commenced after the hit was done or before? after, correct? or need the dream only have commenced after she hired the hitman? it seems that the dream is riddled with references to the hitman, like the botched hit at the beginning

Since you are Captain Themeseeker, You should be all over Lynchs films, because, well.....thats all they are. Deep, dark, twisted, moody themes. With Lynch the story is just a prop to deliver the themes. You will be in heaven.
