The sound is very good with clean crisp highs and LFE when need be. I used my upmixer and it sounded great.

The 5.1 audio is nothing compared to the mono mix from the LaserDisc. No BS filtering, lots of bass, no added/removed sfx and an overall more balanced mix.

Jeez! I really wonder what theaters you all here have been going to. I've only experienced problems at a theater thrice in my lifetime I believe. Maybe, I'm just lucky, but I never experience any of the issues you all complain about. I saw The Shining for free and I had no issues what so ever. It was my first time seeing the movie and I am so glad I went to my somewhat shitty theater to see it. The picture and sound were incredible.

Yes. And there is a reason for that. It's a long one though so bear with me. Shortly after getting into 4K, I got bit by the 4K bug and bit hard. To the point where I don't buy many movies anymore on Blu-ray. I just can't do it after having been spoiled by 4K. I don't even watch much Blu-ray content anymore. About the only exception to those rules are my X-Files shows and my "special interest" movies. If I wasn't such a staunch physical media/picture quality person I'd given up DVDs altogether. But I can't because "special interest" movies are only put out on DVD.

And I refuse to watch anything like that on my phone, computer screen, or from the web. I have a 65 inch LG OLED Dolby Vision television and I don't see any reason to watch sub-par internet-based movies or scenes. I can't do it. The only reason I bought the Arrow release was that I didn't think it would get a 4K release. 3-4 months later a 4K release was announced (it was Waterworld). Now I will watch a Blu-ray movie every now and then. But it's not entirely by choice. It's odd really because since I've gotten into 4K I have noticed my viewing/listening habits have become more and more quality-based. I've gotten to the point now where I use a Car Discman along with a headphone amplifier just to listen to music. And this Car Discman is one that is metal and takes 4 batteries to operate. I'm all about quality now. Except when I watch tv, which is almost never. And that's why I don't buy Arrow movies.

I had the worst movie going experience in Rambo just last week, a family with little kids who didn't speak English (not that that is an issue) but they were talking the entire movie and very loud, everyone was nice and nobody said anything, they seemed very confused and the wife was pissed that her young kids were seeing this carnage yet they refused to leave! It was wayyyyy too much. I have a decent HT setup and i'm just gonna stay there.

I redeemed directly through VUDU and it ported over to MoviesAnywhere if that helps out at all. Obviously you need your accounts linked but it's definitely there.

Same. Per wb.com/redeemmovie it’s ONLY available to redeem via Vudu which is very strange and hope it’s not a sign of things to come. Their redeem page was otherwise slathered in MoviesAnywhere logos and color scheme

Looks amazing. I immediately noticed that the text during the opening credits looks less amateurish. On all the previous versions of The Shining that I've watched, the text always struck me as having a very primitive digital look, as if being done by one of those primitive machines that could generate text on a TV screen, something like this but only for text:

It still could've been done by one of these machines, but it looks more polished now and not like on-screen text on some TV program from the early 80s, which made me wonder if there was some deeper meaning behind that look.

I don't have the LD so I can't comment on that comparison. Going by the only mix we have... I feel it sounded good.

I'm harder to please. I'd have preferred original mono AND Atmos on disc. I certainly wouldn't have turned my nose down at original mono alone, mind. I can be a purist or a speaker filler.

I've heard worse. But there's definitely points where dialogue clarity is affected by the ridiculous level of bass now present. It's just such an amateur way of trying to fool people into this is a great surround mix. The result just comes off as a huge slap in the face to Kubricks work. I'd really love to sit down with the audio engineer and ask what the hell they were thinking.

Same here, I am fine with ATMOS mixes esp since I spent thousands of dollars upgrading for it.

But for films like THE SHINING I would also like the original audio option in this case MONO, but in PCM or HD not one of those lazy compressed Dolby Digital DVD quality tracks.

It's the audio equivalent of excessive DNR. Maybe if they read feedback enough they'll finally start treating audio like video.

Hmmm, I did not have this experience. Dialogue was front and center, always clear. Never did I think LFE overpowered the front soundstage.

Sounds like a difference in audio gear and setup. Boomy bass can ruin things quite easily.

You think they would have learned that lesson by now, but no. Original audio is the antithesis of their rigid marketing logic. Everything must conform to being a technological leap over the old, resistance is futile. It seems to have escaped them that film's 30 year's and older in terms of audio were perfected with LPCM. The only thing that has eluded film enthusiasts is the perfecting of video to a theatrical standard in the home. Which with 4K, and HDR video, we now have the means to achieve with 35mm.

The original mono mix is even more intense than the 5.1 remix in spots. Unfortunately the forum won't let me link it directly but check out this comparison (mono first, then remix): mega.nz/#!brQCCYCK!rga2EmDgf7U3aLAfeFvERN7mL-Yq8nOCkMtNPR_CRmc
