Not on blu-ray since Warner has already announced that they're going to be releasing it next year... news story.

I'm beginning to think that you have big dreams, aggie, for Criterion to release more popular, well-known movies that other companies are probably going to do justice on the blu-ray format. These bigger companies aren't as reluctant as they used to be to license out the rights to these kinds of films. At this point, after over 10 years of DVD, I'm sure the major studios know which films are their bread-winners on the home video front... and they're not gonna let those go.

What gave you that impression? It was just a question. I also didn't think that Warner considered any of their movies high profile because of the lack-luster treatment they do...JK!! I seriously didn't know that WB considered 'The Maltese Falcon' one of it's true bread-winners.

Another thing... I'm perfectly fine with Criterion's current line-up. And I'm not one of those that thinks Criterion should snag all the high-profiles. I was just thinking that 'The Maltese Falcon' goes hand in hand with 'The Third Man' and it's also very good cinema and noir. I'm not as uneducated as you somehow are "beginning to think" cc.

Whether you want to believe it or not, no matter how much knowledge you have about the future CC, Criterion can nab a high profile picture like that. We've seen it several times.

Well, I definitely don't think you're "uneducated" by any means, aggie, but I have just noticed some of your posts asking about Criterion releasing other "higher-profile" titles, like the Kubrick films and such, that's all. Anyone and everyone on these boards know as much as I do about Criterion, I'm sure. I'm certainly not "in-the-know" about anything... I just re-post information that I come across, usually. And, obviously, Criterion can, and has in the past, obtain the distribution rights to many more well-known films... so, there's no problem there. Again, my responsive post meant no harm to you or your comments.

There's no way of knowing until it actually happens.

I'm not taking any offense to anything you're saying CC, you just have it wrong. Go back and look at previous posts, I'm not the one that said anything about Kubrick films. That was CassavettesGodard. As far as the "high-profile" stuff goes, 'The Maltese Falcon' is the first high-profile movie I've even asked about. You must have me confused with someone else.

Don't put my name in this. It's that Larry David fan who started Kubrick. I don't want Kubrick's high profile films anywhere near Criterion, only The Killing and maybe Barry Lyndon. Go back and read.

These are the ones I said I would like Criterion to come out with:

1. Silent films
2. Godard's "Weekend" and "King Lear" and some short films.
3. Cassavetes' "Love Streams" and re-release one of Criterions' "Five Films" on Blu-ray (Opening Night or A Woman Under the Influence)
4. Kubrick's "The Killing"
5. Charles Laughton's "The Night of the Hunter"

Yea you're right! I just agreed with you when you said you would like criterion to do the transfer for 'The Killing'.

Ok cleared up and meaningless. Point is that we've had a misunderstanding, and just forget what I said about 'The Maltese Falcon'. It's not worth it. It was a simple question about whether or not it was possible and it's not.

Cool, finally someone who doesn't want to fight with me. That's really cool of you. You made a comment, I just replied, and you replied back nice. Thanks.

Speaking of Maltese Falcon, I have a feeling it will be released sooner (2010) than people may think, though not from Criterion.

Yea that's what CC was saying, that Warner has already listed it as future release.

That was a hot rumor about 2 months ago. Kind of died down since. But I hope Criterion just releases silent films period.

Now my question for anyone who knows, I heard Criterion said through their facebook that Godard's Weekend would probably come out by them soon. Is that true?

OMG awesome if that is true esp for a BD release also... I have never seen that film and was hoping for a Criterion release of it. I love all the other Godard releases.

It's Bye-bye, and I'm sure B&N stores will sell out the first day of the 50% off sale!
I got mine from Amazon back in Aug when they had it in my Gold Box for $15.19! Mine is the cardboard case version and I really dont care about that, I got a stellar copy of an all-time classic!
