I've never understood the appeal of this. People should list their Oscar pics based on what they themselves would vote for. If you try to read the trends and predict the outcome, even if you're 100% right, so what? What use is that, unless you bet money?

"I didn't even watch it."

I love people who publicly flaunt their own ignorance. What's the guy expecting, congratulations?

I do both, what I think should win, and what I think will win. Most of them were one and the same. It's just for fun really, seeing how well you read trends, etc..The writing really was on the wall for a couple weeks now that Parasite had the most momentum, and 1917 has been fading, but I still didn't think it would happen, so I chose 1917 as what would win, and Parasite as what I wanted to win.

The no-host thing worked well again. Some of the individual skits didn't work very well, like high school-talent show-level stuff, but the show seemed to move along. All of the self-deprecating political stuff was cringey, though. They're weren't many black or female nominees? Guess who decided that? The voters that are there in that room! So what's the point?

I didn’t see the whole thing so not sure if this was addressed at some point but why was Eminem singing The 8 mile song?

As a celebration of that montage (like Lady Gaga doing the Sound of Music number several years ago) and he didn’t perform for the Oscars the year that it won Original Song.

They did a retrospective montage on how big an impact a song makes in certan movies, and they showed 8 Mile as part of it. I think it was meant as a shocker/surprise for Em to come out and sing Lose Yourself, but it's also his moment to actually be at the Oscars, given that he wasn't there the year the song won the Oscar. Most people seemed to enjoy the moment, even if it felt completely random/out of the blue.

In a cool way, it kept Eminem relevant on TV in four different decades. Plus, he’s promoting a new album, so there’s that.

It still blows my mind that he's arguably at the top of his game in terms of flow at the age of 47. Godzilla is one another level when he it comes to speed.

(jump to ~2:50 where he puts even his own Rap God to shame)

I do feel like doing it the week after the Super Bowl was a mistake, better to have some space between huge events, and it is still the most watched awards show. Just hope the academy doesn’t do anything crazy in reaction, like their plan for a popular film category and not airing some awards after the ratings from two years ago.

At most, maybe explore getting a host again, and with the sound branch suggesting a unified category, that gets one less award if need be (I also would be okay with moving the short films awards to a separate ceremony like the governor’s awards, and having the Oscar telecast just be about feature films)

The more they get away from giving the major awards to bigger movies.... the more the ratings will plummet. That and all of the politics talk. Even when I agree politically with an award recipient... I still don't want to hear it.

Back in the day... most Best Picture winners were in the Top 20 of domestic gross. Not anymore. And who wants to watch an awards show for movies they haven't seen. Based on the ratings... less and less people....
