Of course I got derailed with something and did not watch Prospect. I did watch Smoky and the Bandit on 4K disc and it was stellar! Some folks in the dedicated thread are complaining that the Atmos dialogue is quiet at times and I really don't know where that criticism is coming from. It was a rich a vibrant soundtrack from my end.

Most people don’t get their sound system calibrated properly. Using auto cal is not enough. Every one of my clients claim that after I calibrated their audio, dialogue intelligibility and Atmos speakers improved greatly.

Default Apple TV 4K Technical Review

I have read a couple of reviews for the latest Apple TV 4K but they are not technical reviews. Here is hopping member Sledgehamma or someone else will do a technical review like Sledgehamma's review of the Zidoo Z9X here. A review like that is time consuming so at best it will be a while before we see one.

How time flies. The last movie I saw at the Drive-in was Rocky in 1976.

Vilya is having a procedure for his heart tomorrow. He has fluid in his lungs and a damaged gallbladder to contend with also. He is very weak as you would expect.

He expressed again how much he enjoys his time with us here and I told him we will be here when he returns.

I can answer any questions about this one and the 2017 one as I have them. Generally the new one seems a bit faster and the new remote is kind of mixed because there is a jog control that is neat but isn't supported yet in many popular apps like HBOMax for example.

I don't think I have anything to test eARC functionality though.

The Nvidia Shield got the ATV app and it's more capable for now with file playback as it has audio passthrough. Those things happened recently. Could make the Nvidia Shied a better choice even for the Apple Fans.

I can tell you infuse on either model is lovely for file playback and I prefer that to streaming as others in the house may be streaming these days.

Like Apple's venture into lossless Music, the eARC usage with a Apple TV 4K gen 2 is really designed for say a pair of wireless HomePods or Sonos speakers as far as Apple is concerned. What are people expecting here, that the Apple TV supports multi-channel lossless management?

I was planning on messaging him Sunday or Monday, just to give him time as I imagine he will be in recovery for a few days mate.

He was very weak last time I spoke to him, he might not have the strength yet.

Yeah, I think we will all feel better when we get word back. I promise I will try by Sunday evening.

I know most of us are ‘online friends’ but film is such a big part of our lives and in extension, the forum and the people we interact with. We all share a love of film and as a result, it feels like we are part of something here. Vilya is a vital part of that.

I guess people didn't understand this was more serious this time, I hope he recovers and joins us again as soon as his health permits.

Most People Say They Plan to Spend More Time Consuming Entertainment Post-Pandemic - Hollywood Reporter 6/4

A new study, “Forever Changed: COVID-19’s Lasting Impact on the Entertainment Industry," also found that one in three people said that took up a hobby thanks to entertainment that they consumed, such as 'The Queen's Gambit'-inspired chess or 'Bridgerton'-inspired embroidery.

Quote:
It’s no question that the COVID-19 pandemic changed the ways and the amount of time consumers engaged with content. But will any of those habits stick now that those same consumers are emerging from an extended period of isolation?

That’s the focus of a new study released today by UTA IQ, the data and analytics division of the prominent Hollywood agency. The study — using a nationally representative sample of 1,000 U.S. adults ages 18-54 — is titled “Forever Changed: COVID-19’s Lasting Impact on the Entertainment Industry” and is part one of a two part study with the latter installment focusing on live entertainment. “Forever Changed” arrives a year after the division’s consumer survey that studied media and entertainment consumption at the start of the pandemic.

The findings that should pique the interest of studios and streamers is that consumption is expected to remain high with 84 percent reporting that they spent more time with entertainment during the pandemic than in the previous year and 67 percent intend to spend more time consuming entertainment in a post-COVID-19 world.

Seven out of 10 consumers also reported using multiple streaming platforms during the pandemic and the same number answered that they will continue to spread the wealth in the future. One in three respondents said that they plan to subscribe to or use more platforms; one in four plan to consume more genres; and one in three said they plan to consume more international content and/or stories by diverse voices.

One in five respondents reported that they are more willing to pay for exclusive content from celebrities/influencers now than they were before the pandemic. Meanwhile, half of consumers said that their fandom was strengthened during the pandemic, and one in three people said that they took up a hobby thanks to entertainment that they consumed, such as The Queen’s Gambit-inspired chess or Bridgerton-inspired embroidery.

Explains Joe Kessler, global head of UTA IQ: “Entertainment and media proved a reliable escape from our stay-at-home lives. The key issue now is whether this gives way to a more enduring shift in behavior and expectations. What consumers are telling us is that now that they have formed many new habits, they won’t let them go.

Agree but my comment was meant to be more basic. If content is created, dubbed or subbed in a language the individual understands then they can watch it. But not everything is released in every language on every format.

‘Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It’ Clobbers Friday Box Office With $9.8M - Hollywood Reporter 6/5

At this pace, the horror pic could score $23 million to $27 million for the weekend, well ahead of expectations as the recovery continues.

Quote:
The New Line and Warner Bros.’ horror film conjured up $9.8 million on Friday for a projected domestic opening of $23 million to $27 million, well ahead of expectations and enough to top the chart. The film’s performance is all the more impressive considering it is also available at no extra charge to HBO Max customers.

The Devil Made Me Do It is the third Conjuring film, and the seventh film in the franchise, which also includes the Annabelle, The Curse of La Llorna and The Nun spinoff movies. In this latest installment, Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga return as paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, wrestling once again with demonic possession and satanic curses.

Heading into the weekend, no one was sure whether the latest Conjuring pic could scare off John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place Part II, which opened to a pandemic-era record of $57 million over the long Memorial Day weekend, including a huge three-day gross of $47.4 million. (On Friday, A Quiet Place 3 was dated for March 31, 2023.)

Conjuring 3 has the advantage of stealing away Imax and Premium Large Format screens from Quiet Place II, which came in second on Friday with $6.2 million for a projected weekend haul of $22 million.

Disney’s Cruella is headed for a third place finish in its second weekend with an estimated $11.4 million after grossing $3.2 million on Friday. The family friendly film is doing solid business at the domestic box office for a title that’s also available in the home. (It is launching simultaneously in cinemas and on Disney+ Premier Access for $30.)

That leaves new offering Spirit: Untamed opening in fourth place. The DreamWorks Animation and Universal title grossed $2.4 million on Friday for a projected three-day start of $7 million, in line with muted expectations.
