I'm a Stock Holder in Apple and Disney, and they are doing well. My Streaming Providers Amazon and Netflix are great, I just had a Movie Night using Amazon Prime. The Funster Group wanted to see Sideways, so we hosted the Movie Experience. My Collection of Movies is 700+, and I could access it through MA, Vudu, but I chose Prime. We setup Movie Night for the Home Theater Presentation, including Concession Stand!

Sorry to hear about your speaker problems, just hope yours can be repaired.

Designed and built my LCR and 4 surround speakers with the aid of books, software from Harris BassBox Pro and X-over, Quattro Pro and Visual CADD. Most items were purchased from Madisound, some from Parts Express and MCM.

Those last couple of comments reminds me of someone that doesn’t follow any of Apple business acquisitions. They don’t buy entertainment businesses, they invest or acquire businesses that allow their technical ecosystem to sell more devices. The Apple TV + is just a Trojan for introducing their services on multiple platforms. They had many chances to purchase studios, broadcasters but see that as not related to their present technology marketing goals. The little bit of TV series content and occasional movie is to show that they want to participate on their own, not buy someone’s studio content archive. Right now they are transitioning their entire Hardware and OS well before others do away from x86 ecosystem. Yet still allow some compatibility with that for all customers. You know Apple sells 52% of the phones in the UK? Runner up is Samsung.

Apple didn’t do a lot of things until recently. For example, opening up ITunes/Apple+ plus. I can get that service on my PS4.

Apple will need to have a studio, if they don’t they will be irrelevant in the streaming wars within two years. To sell services, they need to be relevant, at the moment they are trailing the pack

Why does that matter, if they offer additional subscription services with Apple TV + that don't mind giving Apple a cut for expanding their subscriber base, they don't need to.

Amazon had a sale going on their Shout/Scream selections. I ordered The Howling and Night of the Comet. They were $11.99 each, so that was a great deal.

Disney Plus has no plans for a lower cost ad-supported option for now, CEO says - The Verge 6/15
Quote:
Many major streamers support advertising in some form or another — think Hulu, HBO Max, or Sling TV as just a few examples — but Disney’s chief says the company’s marquee service won’t be adding ads to its service anytime soon.

Speaking at the Credit Suisse 23rd Annual Communications Conference on Tuesday, Disney head Bob Chapek was asked by moderator and Credit Suisse managing director Doug Mitchelson whether the service planned to introduce an ad-supported entry tier at some point down the line. While he didn’t entirely dismiss the concept of a cheaper ad-supported tier on Disney Plus, Chapek said it wasn’t something the company was currently planning for.

“We’re always reevaluating how we go to market across the world, but we’ve got no such plans now to do that. We’re happy with the models that we’ve got right now,” Chapek said. “We won’t limit ourselves and say no to anything. But right now, we have no such plans for that.”
Pretty evident Disney is not hurting.

AMC Theatres Nears Deal to Operate Prime L.A. Pacific Cinema Locations - Hollywood Reporter 6/15

The mega-exhibitor is eager to run the multiplexes at popular outdoor shopping malls The Grove in West Hollywood and the Americana in Glendale.

Quote:
AMC Theatres is nearing a deal to operate two high-profile Los Angeles-area movie theaters located in prime outdoor shopping malls, The Grove in West Hollywood and The Americana at Brand in Glendale, according to sources.

Both locations are part of the defunct Pacific Theatres chain, which owner the Decurion Corp. shut down permanently in April, along with sister chain ArcLight Cinemas.

In recent days, AMC CEO Adam Aron said he was interested in taking over the leases of some Pacific sites. On Monday, The Grove and Glendale complexes appeared as AMC locations on the company’s website and app before disappearing (i.e., “AMC The Grove 14” and “AMC The Americana 18”).

The two outdoor malls are owned by Rick J. Caruso, and his company Caruso Affiliated.

AMC didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment regarding its plans for The Grove and Americana. With a box office recovery underway in earnest — on Monday, all capacity restrictions were lifted in L.A., the country’s top moviegoing market — there’s a huge incentive to reopen the two locations because of increasing foot traffic at both malls.

The fate of the remaining Pacific multiplexes and ArcLight Cinemas remains murky.

ArcLight’s stable includes Arclight Hollywood, home of the prized Cinerama Dome Hollywood. The Dome, built in 1963 by Decurion Corp., is the crown jewel of the small theater complex that was reconstructed in the early 2000s.

The transfer of the Arclight Hollywood complex is a far more complicated transaction, since Decurion owns the land under the Dome.

“This was not the outcome anyone wanted, but despite a huge effort that exhausted all potential options, the company does not have a viable way forward,” said a statement issued by Pacific Theatres at the time of the closure of Pacific and ArcLight.

“To our guests and members of the film industry who have made going to the movies such a magical experience over the years: our deepest thanks,” the statement continued. “It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve you.”

They could have done that with just ITunes, just have a rental/purchase store on smart tv, streaming sticks with the offer of several third party subscriptions, why waste millions on the service?

I still think they will buy a studio.

Amazon is also running their B2G1 right now in response to Target doing the same. Targets pricing was pretty high so the final deals weren’t that good, but I picked up a few through Amazon.

Amazon Prime has ads for Amazon Prime originals before Prime videos.

Kind of annoying for a paid subscription but we are mostly subscribing to the shipping benifits of Prime I guess.

I haven't watched a blu-ray since the end of May; the last one I saw was Mortal. Gotmule recommended it and it made for a nice diversion.

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Mortal-Blu-ray/276394/

I have been sitting quietly at the back of the room trying to keep up with this thread as best I can. My recovery is very, very slow going and there have been some complications, but these are beginning to resolve, too. I tire ridiculously easily, but that is incrementally improving. Today I get to attempt my first normal shower since May 29th; that's the kind of seemingly trivial thing that constitutes progress with me.

Thank you all for the kind thoughts.

For now, my system is down, but I am not complaining, as there are far greater tragedies and obstacles people face in the world today.
I sure hope that your home theater is up and running soon. I sure have missed mine.

So glad to see you are improving, even if it is slowly.

I can relate to your situation. In 2008 I fell off a ladder, shatter my left knee and was in a hospital bed at home for over 4 months. It was several weeks before I could get in the shower and the first time I must have set there for 25 minutes. Had to use a shower bench for bathtubs.

Not that I have some extremely great HT set up myself, but an average sized modern TV with light shining in from the windows above it and a small table with a few popcorn containers seems completely on brand as an old retired person's idea of a "Home Theater Presentation with Concession Stand."

Watch it dude, I'm old and retired. I do have a different concept of what constitutes a home theater.
