Depending on which route you take you could lose quality. If you rip the bluray or dvd and inject subtitles into it, which the only why i know of is through a compression program, you'll lose quality. I'm not aware of actually copying the exact files over to a burnable disc and burning subtitles into the new data.

At least the way I pointed out, your still able to use your exact hard copy and don't have to go through all of these ripping steps. Just play the srt player the same time your watching your movie.

The lack of English subs has stopped me from buying a lot of the Godzilla titles. At $50 + it is a difficult decision. The Japanese pricing structure for DVDs and Blu-ray relies on a high profit margin for each unit sold. Thus, the dilemma.

Maybe if the discount was better, say $30 - $40 a title, maybe.

Since Blu-ray is new, there's no way in hell I plan on learning how to rip a Blu-ray to make a back up with English subtitles. My laptop and my desktop do not have the capabilities to handle the power of Blu-ray disc. My laptop barely handles the compatibility.

Yeah, I don't see it going cheap anytime soon. I had gotten my first DVD burner back in 2003 and DVD-R's were going $10 for a 3 pack. And I had back up all of my VHS copies of my Godzilla films. It was expensive as hell to copy those horrid 4:3 cropped, English dubbed versions but it was worth it since I had could just throw them in my PS2 and just watch without a problem. This was like years before all they were released by Sony and Classic Media.

Back in 2008, I started buying the Thai Godzilla DVDs. I picked up Godzilla Vs Destoroyah first and the Thai release is exactly from the Japanese DVD. I spent $7.50 on it and it had Japanese and Thai audio and Japanese and Thai subtitles, I was able to sync the English subtitles to the disc and was perfectly. The same with Godzilla Vs Biollante. I believe the Hong Kong versions have English and Chinese at the same time, but if you want to take some time to sync the English subs and English subs only, it was worth the time.

Discs are still cheaper on Amazon Japan anyway, so no need to mess with CDJapan. Winning that flyer would be cool, but only 5 people win it, so there's no point.... Already have that exact GFW poster. lol

...

anyway, I'm having a bit of a dilema. I have the FINAL BOX that cost me well over $1000, and don't really want to replace it with the pricey BLU RAYS. Sony and CM released really good versions of the Showa, Heisei, and Shinsei series... not to mention Media Blasters great versions of some old Toho films.

I have a baby boy coming in April, so I need to try and hold back from buying too much anyway. I think I'm just getting the Millenium series for now and will mess with the other releases later on when my wife and I are more settled down with the baby, financially. Hopefully they don't go OOP.

I saw someone selling the Final Box on eBay. I don't think it was sold. It was going for $2k. I saw the box that it was in and it had a 5 year old kid to compare the size, the box was taller than the kid, LOL. I'd probably hold on to the Final Box since it has that Godzilla head with it.

Just rip to mkv...

You can just add the srt or ass subtitle file to the mkv without rencoding the video.
Ripping isn't that hard or long. It's rencoding/downsizing that can take time and a more powerful PC.

I do this all the time since I have a media server for my HT.

They won't go out OOP. The Japanese DVDs never went out of print, they just re-issued them several times. Same exact discs on all the releases.

Can anyone post screen captures from any of the discs (especially the 1954 GODZILLA blu-ray)?

Well, I went to Tohos main video website and there's no releases on the site after April 14th.... so there's no worries. The next batch should be announced soon.

I'm hoping they announce the next wave for May and not later.

If your PS3 is the slim, supposedly you're fine. Back cover looks cool. What does the disc look like?

The Heisei movies are basically on the same level as the previous releases of G84, G vs Biollante, and G vs King Ghidorah... it's basically like watching the same movie in terms of transfer quality, for the most part.

My eyes may be playing tricks on me, but I think G vs Destroyah used less DNR, as it seems a little grainier and sharper throughout (I'm also seeing a lot more wires on the monster suits).
Do you have a link for WOG? I can't find it anywhere and since my birthday is coming up I may want to treat myself. thank you.

Yeah, due to the poor sales of the Rebirth of Mothra double, Sony didn't release Rebirth of Mothra 3 which was easily the best out of the trilogy. I have a DVDR of it that I made off a television recording.
