Because the discussion was films bypassing the cinema altogether. What you are talking about is a pathetic attempt to push digital. Despite that, Digital HD viewership is actually shrinking. It is currently down from last year I understand. For a supposedly growing format, that is very bad news. The growth is simply not there in the type of numbers the studio desires. If Digital is th future its services lke Netflix, Amazon etc not purchases.

Because I was talking about a digital release coming out the same day the movie opens in theaters, not a few weeks before the Blu-ray/DVD.

You moan about people spoiling the thread by defending Blu-Ray then you make (in my opinion) troll statements to antagonise people? This is Blu-Ray forum. We are here for the long haul. Until the day when we are squinting at smartphones and watches I will continue to collect and be bloody proud of the fact. I love films and no amount of lazy convenience will change that. You can have your studio controlled copies, I will take my collection any day!

'Cinema is a thing of the past' let's revisit this in ten years. I will remind you what a (in my opinion) stupid statement that was.
Here, here! I agree, this is BD.com not UV/DC.com. I too will continue to collect and enjoy my movies. I enjoy the tactile pleasure of owning something versus just owning the rental rights to it. Not only that but oddly enough vinyl is making a great come back so physical media will continue to be around. As long as their are collectors with money the studios will continue to press movies. Why anyone would go completely digital is beyond me. Sure it says space and is convenient but there are more flaws with then pros.

Perhaps. But that has been an ongoing debate here. Do digital consumers watch their movies moreso on a TV screen or a mobile device? Considering how many people there are with access to a Smart TV, gaming console, Smart Blu-ray player or streaming device, many digital copy consumers can and do watch it on a TV.

But digital copies were at one time directly associated with mobile viewing, so there are also many people who probably still see them that way (and maybe avoid them for that reason) or only use them that way (because it's even more convenient than turning on a TV, and/or comes in handy when you're traveling).

I just connected my Vudu to my cousin's Vudu yesterday, so they now have all my UV movies and I'll have all their's going forward. Lastnight, they decided to buy Deadpool. Now I have Deadpool on Vudu. It's not an earth shattering development, but it's pretty cool that we can both share movies this way. I'm doing the same thing with my parents, so whenever I buy/redeem something new, my parents have something new to watch too.

Mind you, none of us are watching our movies on tablets or phones, and we're all at different technical skill levels. I hardly had to teach my parents how to use Vudu or sign up.

You might be right about younger people preferring their mobile devices, though. College students are especially disinterested in having a TV. But that could have more to do with them not being able to afford one or not having time for one. Home owners and even home/apartment renters typically choose to have a TV. It's kind of weird to not have one.

Now, Now, no need for Name Calling, I just wanted to spark up this discussion. As for the Cinema, I just go by personal experience and my observations. Star Wars is an exception, I was one of the people going to see this at a Theater but I hadn't gone in 10 years. The Picture Quality was not that great, and the Sound was too loud. I enjoyed it more on my Home Theater, and I was able to follow it better. Talking to people everyone feels the same way, the Cinema has just lost it's appeal but we can talk about it again in 10 years. Here again, the younger generation and families might keep it alive but the cost keeps going up. The way I see it the Cinema needs to change, and become more like a Home Theater. So what does that mean, Home Theaters are going to take over.

As for putting down Blu-ray, you guys have me all wrong, I still own Blu-ray and DVD's. Like I have said before, it's all Digital and you are in the Digital side of the Forum. I started Streaming DVD Movies from my Home Server 25 years ago, so I knew back then Streaming would take over and become the next Big Thing. So I don't see Streaming as a convenience, but a Revolution in the way Movies can be shown. If the Cinema does survive, I see them also Streaming Movies. Like I have said before, the Infrastructure will have to be Fiber and Streaming Movies is the Future!

All but Disney movies, I believe those still can't be shared on Vudu irrc.

No, you wanted to stir the pot IMO. You practically admitted it yourself with your posts with Cevolution. This is a bluray forum. It is wrong to keep singing the virtues of Digital. I don't care how many sub forums exist, I won't have it. Simple as that.

Can't we just eliminate all Digital topics?

But, but that would eliminate blu-ray .com due to the film on the discs being digital too.

My Point exactly, it's all Digital. I guess Steedeel has never looked at a DVD or Blu-ray Disc, it's just Digital Files on a Disc. When your Blu-ray Player reads these Digital Files it just Streams them to your HDTV or Monitor. So the only difference is Streaming from your Blu-ray Player or from a Digital Server. Like I said, I still have a big Library of Blu-rays and DVD's so I am not putting anything down, just stating facts.

Well that's kind of a back handed compliment, but I'll take it. I don't think I am overly concerned with the details, just want people to realize what they are getting all excited about. I'm not so much concerned about one Format being better than the other, as being able to see the Movies Now. With Streaming Digital, the wait is over.

Give it ten years, it might catch up to 4K Blu-Ray?

Simple fact of the matter ( which might have already been said ) is that Blu Ray Disc PQ is superior to download/streaming and I think will be for the foreseeable future.
It will be a sad day if physical media disappears, but somehow I don't think it will.

It's a forum talking about one physical media, I'm very opened to digital, I went all digital for music about 8 years ago and slowly starting with movies. But in this forum I realized most of the members are die hard fans of physical formats, even with the music. I expected CDs to die years ago but if you go in the "Your most recent Music Purchases" thread you'll see that many people are still buying CDs. If you give me the choice between buying a CD uploading it in my PC than plug my iPhone on my PC and open iTunes to go get the song back to be finally be able to play it vs buying the iTunes file, it's a no brainer, if I buy the digital version it is automatically loaded in my iPhone, iPad, iPod and apple TV and it's on my cloud. I don't have a DVD or CD player in my house since 2008, I got the rid of them shortly after my VCRs.

Lately I realized that I even watch movie I own the Blu-ray version on Netflix, I re-watched Dexter a year ago and streamed the whole series even if I have the Blu-rays, it saved me 24 disc to put in my player. I also have a few iTunes movies that I also have the Blu-ray version and whenever I want to watch them I choose the digital version. You and I are in the minority here and all the threads talking about digital vs. physical get out of hand out here...

Well, if you still watch Blu-Ray you must have a DVD player?

On your point of tv, I wouldn't dream of watching something like Hannibal or GOT in anything less than bluray quality. (In terms of ownership)

Anyway, it boils down to two things. If you care about movies enough you will buy the disc. If you don't you will go digital.
