It's possible that if Smith's source for the 84 min run time wasn't the back of the VHS, his source might be from some film encyclopedia/website/etc. that lists the wrong run time as well.

My theory is the film's original run time was probably around 98/99 min. Then when the film hit the US, certain scenes were cut out for various reasons and up to 10 minutes of footage was cut out of various prints. The print DF acquired is a cut print, but at the same time, the print DF used for the blu-ray could very well have played at drive-ins at the same run time as the blu-ray's run time.
That's the thing with prints in the wild, any one that touches that print could easily make edits, this happened all the time. Projectionists would remove parts of the film if they deemed them unacceptable or wanted to do their own censoring.

What better non "shit" disc release do you recommend? A DVD-R rip of a VHS tape? That also sounds like shit.

Which is more than likely what happened to the print DF used for the blu-ray.

Ruined doesn't buy the movies he defends. He just likes to argue about them.

I ordered the disc before the runtime was known, so that is incorrect.

Its also still sealed but I plan to open and watch Friday because I don't see any better disc option. It's either this or burned VHS rips, and even if uncut being this is not a SOV movie that's just as bad if not worse.

Also, if Dark Force releases the uncut version down the road (such as with VHS inserts) I'll likely still keep this disc for the alternate cut.

84 minutes for THTV is surely a typo (as mentioned up-thread) based on the PAL run-time of 94 minutes. It's not surprising that multiple sources would repeat this typo - very easy for misinformation such as this to spread far and wide.

I checked the various rips on Cinemageddon (there are several) and all I see are 94 and 99 minute versions. There is one that appears to be a TV edit; it is listed at 99 minutes, but in the comments section of the page, people say that it is actually cut, so I don't know it's run time.

All this complaining and I don't think a single person has mentioned that on the back of the HTV double feature release states the runtime as 89 minutes so everyone moaning that they are ripping people off by not stating what is included are false. The runtime of the cut included is mentioned on the back of the case. I really don't care that people seem to wanna crap on this company but I will continue to support the "Drive-In" releases and will gladly buy up each and every release they put out, even if it's a crappy r-rated cut of an x-rated porno from the seventies. I am buying these for the novelty of the drive-in mode and not so much for the actual films included.

Now I hope someone can release the uncut version of HTV so everyone can buy it and then hopefully move on with their lives and stop complaining in this and the code red thread that Dark Force are purposely ripping people off

Other point is people crap on the release yet only other releases available are crappy VHS rips. Even though this is a cut print in rough shape, at least it's film sourced and not tape.

End result for most is they won't own any version of this movie or will own a version derived from VHS. Neither of those options are better than the current dark force release IMO. So silly to say something is a rip off when there is no better alternative.

Shortest: despite all the complaining there still is no film-sourced version of The House that Vanished on disc that is significantly better than the Dark Force release.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is precisely the kind of packaging collector/spine fetishist mentality that these guys prey upon.

I appreciate the fact that if you swap the first vowels in "dark force" it becomes "dork farce." I expect this to come in handy in the future.

And how is this different than a company that charges msrp $49.99 for a release in a fancy cardboard box with a foldout poster, and a read-once massive font "book" with info you can probably find on the internet for free? Or a company that charges msrp $40-$50 for a steelbook? Or one that charges $29.99-$34.99 msrp with a collectors slipcover or red case+reversible cover art being the main "feature"?

You make it sound like dark force is some anomaly but it's more the norm. Considering you are also getting 2 films for the price as well.

The drive in thing is a bit gimmicky but it's more of a feature than a slipcover or fancy cardboard box IMO.

Looking forward to Dark Force's the Backlot Murders; I like the fact that it's a newer film. There's a ton of cool stuff out there waiting for an HD release. And if they're sticking with the Haimster, Blown Away (1993) could definitely use an HD upgrade.

The difference between those companies and this one is they actually get he rights to their films before releasing them instead of a cut up bootleg. There's a reason why they didn't want to put this one on Amazon.

Oh, you mean the back of the case that I wasn't allowed to see until it arrived in my mailbox??

Man, you people crack me the f*** up!

There is no excuse for what Dark Force did here - stop riding their d***! Even DF knows they f***d up. Hopefully they do better in the future.
