The commercials
[Show spoiler]are a metaphor for Wanda's trauma. It was a Stark bomb that killed her parents. The toaster ad has the same sound effect as the Stark missile from the first Iron Man movie. Strucker experimented on her and Pietro. The watch had the Hydra logo, Cap referred to him as Hydra's number one thug in Age of Ultron.

Well. That settled it. Certainly is the most amusing theories I’ve seen.

The part where Wanda seems to wake up for a second and says "No!", rewinding the scene to something much more pleasant to me indicates she's in at least some control here.

I Will watch this, but just curious about the HDR implementation after the Mandalorian controversy of being too dim and washed out. How does this look? Thanks

Has anyone thought that

It looks fantastic for the elements. Let me explain: the show was shot to mimic the era being homaged. So specific lenses were used to achieve the 1950s Kinescope look for I Love Lucy for example. Lighting was also designed to replicate the era. For The Addams Family, the large room was actually pink when filmed, for WandaVision, Paul Bettany was painted blue. This was due to how black and white photography worked.

So the “modern” or present day sequences look like how all Marvel movies look. The homages look period authentic: the 1950s black and white is gorgeous and has some hints of fuzziness on the edges. The color sequences look beautiful and the 1970s era is very colorful & vibrant like The Brady Bunch.

More likely:

[Show spoiler]In Marvel comics, AIM, or Advanced Idea Mechanics, is an organization of researchers who reject formal ideas of ethics and prize the pursuit of dangerous knowledge above all else. In other words, it’s a secret society of mad scientists. And you’ll know them by their uniform: A bright yellow hazmat suit with black detailing and a big clear window on the hood. Fans and Marvel characters alike refer to AIM’s endless supply of henchmen as “beekeeper guys.”

AIM has already made one appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as an organization headed up by scientist Aldrich Killian, who helped develop the Extremis therapy that turned people into walking bomb-soldiers. That was way back in 2013’s Iron Man 3, and we haven’t seen anything of AIM since.

But, if we take comics lore into account, WandaVision already has one big link to AIM, both in Wanda’s MCU history, and in another aspect of the series: the commercials. Episode 2’s advertisement for Strucker watches is a nod to Wolfgang von Strucker, who we previously saw in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

In the MCU, he’s the Hydra scientist who used Loki’s scepter to give (or awaken) superpowers to Wanda and her brother Pietro at the behest of Hydra. In the comics, he’s the Hydra scientist who founded AIM as the research and development arm of Hydra.

If the man in the beekeeper suit is indeed meant to represent AIM, Strucker makes a second point of connection. WandaVision just might be setting up an old MCU foe of Tony Stark for a second appearance — just as Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will do for the Ten Rings organization, which kidnapped Tony Stark all the way back in 2008’s Iron Man. source

Only watched the first episode, but that was brutal to sit through, I can imagine some casual MCU fans just stopping there, it doesn't help that they're going weekly with what feels like a one complete arc (where binging helps). Been vaguely familiar with this storyline (if it's based on what I think it is) helps, but I can see other people lost and not enticed to come back. I know there are little Easter Eggs, but they may be a bit inside baseball for some.

Looked and sounded nice, but for those that see this as Disney+'s next incentive (after The Mandalorian) to keep a subscription it may be a tough sell.

Needless to say, WandaVision is not the appropriate "first exposure" to anything MCU related.

It's oddly interesting how majority of "negative" or "less than impressed" reviews laud the series as being brilliant and full of charm though largely negate it due to the lack of accessibility.

I'm sorry. The MCU has been around for 13 years with a gauntlet of 23 films, along with several notably popular Netflix series and it's own collection of ABC shows. If you're not on the boat now, then you've missed your chance to join in on the fun. Or you have a lot of catching up/research to do.

Don't get me wrong I enjoyed it (and the little hints). I think for even those that have seen the features and shows and are just live-action fans (which are the majority of casual audience members), this may seem inaccessible. But Disney+ has a captive audience at this point, so hopefully people will persevere through to the end.

I have no clue what you're going on with that, but if you're suggesting Wanda's nosey neighbor Agnes may be there as part of her "deprogramming" in some way, I wouldn't be surprised. I'm leaning toward the theory that Agnes is actually
[Show spoiler]Agatha Harkness.

While I am not sure of this retro introduction compared to 1985 Vision and Scarlet Witch series, they did live in a town and encountered various bad characters.

Related comic to show you what I mean
[Show spoiler]

For me I think this ep 1/2 was really jerking MCU fans around until a bit of reality settles in. Such as rewind Vision seeing the bee keeper and Wanda rewinds the show back to she's pregnant?

Now some spoiler page hinted to various superheroes would be showing up, but what the hell is going on?

There are 7 more episodes coming. This takes place after Endgame.

Folks keep throwing around these “casual” audiences. What actually qualifies as a casual viewer for the MCU?

Is it someone who simply watched The Avengers movies and skips all the rest? Someone who hasn’t seen any of the Ant-Man movies or only knowledge of the character is through Captain America: Civil War? A person that believes Superman to be an Avenger or thinks that Deadpool is Spider-Man and the X-Men films take place in the MCU? Do they not watch Agents of Shield or the Netflix shows?

What exactly is it that makes them classified as “casual?”

Because if they’re introduction to Scarlet Witch and Vision were Age of Ultron, I’m sure they’ve watched Civil War, Infinity War and Endgame; meaning they are versed in the specific characters existence and backstory, and shouldn’t have an issue with getting invested into watching WandaVision.

Let’s not forget this is the MCU. They made a blockbuster out of some space opera film that featured a talking tree and raccoon. I think after successes of other “far out” Marvel properties, it allows them to make riskier content more mainstream for their fan base.

I really enjoyed the first 2 shows. I thought it was hilarious. Late 50s/early 60s humor. Hoping a Bewitched Uncle Arthur like character appears in the future shows.

Anecdotally ... the average viewer doesn't read comic books from my experience, I'd argue that the casual viewer doesn't really know the difference between DC and Marvel outside their respective pictures (if that), they're not watching the TV shows religiously.

My sister is a casual comicbook movie and comicbook fan, she watches some shows (she really enjoys the'90s animated shows) and reads some of the books I give her. She wasn't invested in WandaVision, I don't think she'll watch all of the D+ shows either, but she's looking forward to She Hulk and Miss Marvel if they're fun.

I'm not slamming the show, I enjoyed the first episode and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

I'm interested to see how it plays out, too. Right now it has a Life on Mars vibe to it for me so I definitely want to see what's really happening.

[Show spoiler]Wiccan and Speed are reincarnations of their kids in the comics... so we could be seeing something along those lines...
also, Wiccan is married to Hulkling who rules the Skrull/Kree alliance and SWORD would be involved there too...
