Thanks for clarifying, further reason to avoid the current releases of the film.

I read an article once that claimed the UK home video release was edited. The scene in the phone box, with David contemplating suicide (cutting his wrist with a knife), was removed - not because of the suicide attempt - but, because it was reasoned () the phone box would date the film with the now existence of mobile communication.

Yeah whoever wrote that article must have been smoking something and pulling reasons out of his ass, the UK DVD was missing that scene because it was a dual UK/Germany release so they went with an old censored German Cut of the film. Movie Censorship gives the details.

It is an interesting decision by the UK censorship board to censor pretty much all suicide themes if you want a UK15 rating. I noticed that John Wick 2 was censored to get a more commercial 15 due to a suicide (Australia followed suit with John Wick 3, to get a more commercial MA15+
that is, but that was with a knife to eye, not suicidal ideation or themes), luckily UHD discs are uncut.

I digress. But if AWIL wasn’t 18 already, it would be for sure nowadays due to the phone booth scene.

It’s a ridiculous ruling. Lethal Weapon would need to be reviewed and given an 18 (suicide/drug overdose/murder at the start, suicide attempt at the start, talking down the jumper). Even House: The Complete Series has an “18” logo on the box set, all because of one episode in Season 5 that has suicidal themes. Ridiculous.

Movies should generate discussion and hiding a taboo topic and allow it only to be shown to adults sends the wrong message, IMHO.

What are all the places censoring because of suicide? Would they censor The Incredibles then?

so, this is like shout factory's The Thing - 4k scan on a standard blu ray disc, right? (albeit region B, so usable for us poor Aussies who miss out on a lot of stuff).

Am I right in my thinking?

Diabolik got Kino's blu ray release for Trilogy of Terror 2 a few weeks early too. It states on here that it was delayed until October 22nd but I got my copy from Diabolik the other day. Great to see that AWIL might be arriving early as well!

They have already stated (Facebook) that they do not have stock of AWIL and has not even shipped to them yet but they changed status so when it comes time they will be ready. They also stated Two Evil Eyes will be sorted soon as well.

I pre-ordered this as soon as I saw it go live on Amazon but the order instantly said ‘delivery date pending’ and still does.

Anyone else?

That 4K scan of The Thing was done by Arrow. They just licensed it.

I’m really annoyed that the UK has the option of either the expensive limited edition or the standard version as preorder, but in the US, we have to wait until the LE has sold out to have the standard option.

Chances are that the UK release will be region A/B if that happens you could order it the UK release.
