![]() Halloween Horror Month 2022 ![]() October 1st, time for another Halloween Horror Month, attempting to watch 31 films in 31 days. This will be my 11th year doing the challenge (previous years complete film lists are below). It's a lot of fun and in some ways freeing in terms of narrowing down what to watch from the collection. Like other "seasonal" films, it's really up to you what you think fits with the Halloween and/or Horror theme. My best advice is to just keep it varied, balance the apocalyptic films with some comedy horror or supernatural stories. I'll sometimes set myself other goals, like blu-ray only, or a few years ago I did one film for each of the last 31 years (1989 to 2019). Personally I always aim for 31 films in 31 days, and while that's doable for some, that's unrealistic for others. The final number doesn't really matter, in the end it's just a good excuse to watch some Horror/Halloween films in the lead up to Halloween. The 'My Movies' app is also handy for both browsing what you have on BD, DVD etc. in the Horror genre, but also can be set by runtime if you say only have about an hour you could watch something shorter like 'Dracula' which is about 70min. If watching some Horror/Halloween films over this month sounds fun, feel free to join in. The main thing is to just have fun, whether you end up watching 31 films, or only a handful, just pace yourself and enjoy some films or TV. Re-watch some old favourites and maybe try something new. I'm going to start with the Universal Monsters classic 'The Wolf Man', and I'll update the post below with the films I view throughout the month. ![]() _______________________________________ The 10 previous years film lists; 2012 [Show spoiler] 2013 [Show spoiler] 2014 [Show spoiler] 2015 [Show spoiler] 2016 [Show spoiler] 2017 [Show spoiler] 2018 [Show spoiler] 2019 [Show spoiler] 2020 [Show spoiler] 2021 [Show spoiler]

Setting myself a realistic target for October this year (and will be finishing on 1st November with the original Halloween II). I'm hoping for one film per day through October, but it will be tricky.
Got an idea of half a dozen horror films I'm going to watch, in addition to (hopefully) a couple of films at the cinema (the original Poltergeist, and Halloween Ends). |

I’m down for this again think it will be my third year, managed 62 last year but not sure I can manage that volume again.
Time now to go off and pull some movies from the collection and unwatched pile. Last edited by zallzed; 10-01-2022 at 09:18 AM. |

I always try to watch as much as possible in October. In the last couple of years I've done weekend horror series marathons. This year will be 'Paranormal Activity' which admittedly I'm not excited about (picked by my brother), last year was 'Saw' and the previous year was 'Puppet Master'.
This year I'm mostly doing films I haven't seen. Although some stuff will be re-watches like 'Fright Night' (1985) which is my choice of Halloween film. * denotates a rewatch. September 30th/October 1st: 1. Storm of the Century (1999) 6.5/10 2. Senritsu Kaiki File Kowasugi File 01: Operation Capture the Slit-Mouthed Woman (2012) 7/10 October 2nd: 3. They are super short, averaging 70 to 75 minutes, and a lot of fun. They get crazier and crazier with each installment. Be warned that they are very low budget, but it added a certain charm for me, especially combined with the humour. I believe the rest are available through a Discord, but I have no idea how this shit works, so I'll just wait for YT uploads. |

1. Scream (1996)
Caught it on the TV by chance and it kicked off my Halloween horror month. I must say that I've never been fond of this movie and that sentiment will definitely continue as it is ![]() 2. The Bat (1959) ![]() First time viewing. Nothing can go wrong with Vincent Price! Thoroughly enjoyed it and I hope for a UK release at some point. |

I'd appreciate if someone could tell me if 'The Howling' films are worth watching beyond 3? I've only seen the first three and like them all, (for different reasons obviously). The premise for 'The Freaks' has me interested. |

Holy shit, the new 'Scream' was actually bizarrely bad. Maybe my least favourite of the latest horror reboots that I've seen (there's probably a worse one I'm forgetting). Definitely my least favourite of the series.
The metaness was awful, using it to excuse poor writing. The killer was obvious and the motivation was so far fetched. Boring, bland, and uninspired. Kind of shocked this got an ok to good reception. If you liked it though more power to you ![]() |

Just watched Argento's new film via Shudder. Don't go in expecting it to be like his glory days, I wouldn't say it's return to his complete form, but it's better than his last couple of films. It's more in line with his 90s/early 2000s films, which is an improvement over Dracula 3D (though tbf that is a low bar).
What I found strange is I didn't feel any real emphasis on the mystery of the killer, in fact it isn't really revealed. One scene you just see their face, like it's no big deal. The killer was very predictable. Also the last 25 minutes could've been paced better. But the violence is enjoyable (in fact without spoilers there's a scene reminiscent of Suspiria), the soundtrack was quite good, and the dynamic between the two leads was interesting. |

The film feels like a massive build-up with no pay-off. Great ideas and scenes, love the religious science aspect of it. Scenes like [Show spoiler] and [Show spoiler] are brilliant. But then it gets bogged down by [Show spoiler] , the pace really slows down for no good reason, making the finale lack any momentum or suspense. ![]() |

I didn't watch as much as I wanted, I planned to rewatch 'Phantasm' and 'Re-Animator' (Who I dressed up as for Halloween), but life as always got in the way. |

I'll definitely participate this year as well!
My horror physical collection hasn't grown much since last year, so I'll revisit some old classics from there and I'll try to watch horror films I haven't watched so far through streaming services such as mubi etc. |

Started off with John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness. Like this film a lot, the atmosphere, the tone, Donald Pleasance, the score. That scene with the guy who says, "I have a message for you, and you are not going to like it" haunted my dreams as a wee boy. I just wish it was longer, I feel like there is something, I'm not sure what, but just something missing?

Started with Near Dark. A rewatch for me but I was hyped by the stories about Americans being able to watch it on The Criterion Channel and I got tired of waiting for Studio Canal to release a new disc so bought it on iTunes and it looked okay but with room for improvement. Maybe next October, they'll have that new 4K restoration out.
