Very nice! The 4311 is going to give many receivers out there a run for their money. I love the added features. I've owned two of them now and they are somewhat of a pain learning to navigate through them, but honestly to me that's part of the fun with these types of electronics. Enjoy it and definitely provide us with all the juicy details LOL!

Anybody using Denon AVR 1311?

I'm planning to purchase Denon DHT-1311 HTIB (it's a package of AVR 1311 and denon 5.1 speakers). It will be my HTIB replacement from Onkyo HT-S3300 because of onkyo's firmware issue.

Any tricks, tips or info you've learned over the weekend that might help a newbie like me out?

Yup, read your manual.

* And read that Audyssey Setup Guide from the link in my signature.
...And read it attentively, and follow all the instructions to the letter!
Pay particular attention to the Microphone's positions plus also the Subwoofer's settings.

Posted this on AVS, so I thought I'd post it here as well:

I received my 4311 yesterday from EE (it was double boxed for those who care). Here are the hook up details:

Oppo BDP-83 via HDMI
XBOX 360 slim via HDMI
Cisco 8640 DVR via HDMI
HDMI to Sony LCD TV (monitor out)
Wii via component
Sonos ZP90 via optical

I watched a couple of hours of TV and about an hour of movies and played the new Black Ops game on 360 and had not one single issue with audio drop-outs or video problems (ie blue rain). I turned video convert off for the Oppo just to be sure the video wasn't being affected in anyway, otherwise video convert is left on for everything else so I have the GUi overlay. Thus far, no issues, so hopefuly that will continue! In fact, I became so used to my other receiver (HK 3600) dropping audio whenever the audio source changed (ie from show to commercial and back), that when this unit didn't do that... I was amazed.

It was easy to set up Audyssey and I used 6 positions. This is my first experience with this, coming from a Harman Kardon AVR 3600. This progam absolutely blows away the EQ fo the HK. Distances and levels seemed pretty accurate. I changed the fronts and center to small (had them at large- Polk RTiA7's and CSiA6 center) and put them at 80 Hz. Surrounds are at 100 Hz (I run 5.1 only for now). I did turn up the sub just a tad after running it and the center just a little as well, but otherwise, it sounds better than it has ever sounded. THe calculation and set up was pretty quick (maybe 12-15 minutes). I'm using the Audyssey setting for now.

I'm still learning my way around this unit as it is my first Denon, but so far I really love it. There are defniitely more adjustments than the HK had and I like the GUI better. All in all a very good purchase so far!

I got the 3311ci last week from EE too, I'm too busy to read the manual yet.
Can someone tell me what's the best setting for music, I liked the way my last receiver just use the front speakers with pure direct mode, I try to get the same result with the denon but I haven't found the right one, when I select direct my fronts are too low, when I select standard the sound come strong but from my center speaker "it sounds great like that".
But I want 2 channel with good bass from my polks 70's.
Thanks, hopefully next week I'll have time to read the manual.

I say go for it, it sure wouldn't hurt. If anything from my understanding you'll get better depth and detail even at low volume, which to me is a huge plus. Plus then you could let me know how it goes for my own future possibilities, LOL!

The reason I was wondering about the AVR-4310ci with the Emotiva XPA-5 is because according to reviews, the AVR-4310ci already has TONS of power.

Check them out...

It has nothing to do with power. An external amp usually gives cleaner amplification. It also usually gives a better dynamic range at all volumes. I added an XPA-5 to a Denon 3808 and felt it added detail in my five channels that I did not hear before.

Wattage is just a small component, IMO.

Thumbs up Read this!

GOOD TIP: Use the full 8 mic positions allowed by Audyssey MultEQ XT.

...Also as recommended by Audyssey!

Default PS3 / Netflix Sound Problem

Hey guys, I searched for this before asking. I hope it hasn't been covered elsewhere. I have a Denon 1910 and using it with my thin Playstation 3. When playing Blu-Ray movies and games, everything works beautifully. The diskless Netflix feature was added recently as you know, and when I attempt to play movies I'm only getting the lows....the sub-woofer and just a hint of other sound in the speakers. The dialog and voices are completely muted.

When I connected the PS3 directly to the TV it worked fine.

I checked all of the settings that I could find and nothing is resolving the issue.

I read elsewhere that changing the HDMI Input from "Auto" to PCM and then back to Auto solved this issue for a few people, but the problem remains.

Any tips are appreciated.

Are you referring to the movies played by Netflix?
If yes, what are their audio soundtracks encoding?

* Perhaps your Denon AVR-1920 receiver has to have that source assigned with the right audio mode.
Check it out.

** Can always try a Reset too (your receiver).

*** Or it could be an HDMI Audio Out setting from your PS3 "Slim" in regards to Netflix movies.
That right here could well be it! Have a serious look into this.

Just upgraded my HT system with the 4310ci from a 4802R. Weightwise, the weight of the 4802R was a monster compared to the 4310ci. I was just dropping by at BB's HT section and found the 4310ci for $799. I told myself that at that price, I could not pass it. There was only one left and brought it home. I was looking at the 4311 but the price was too high for me with some feature that the 4310 doesn't have but was not too big of a deal for me. The manual od the 4310ci was overwelhming at first. Got to calibrate the audussey system and to my surprise, each channel had different volume settings and the SW setting was way low after the calibration was performed. But it gave life to the movies I watched. Found out that when cranking up the master volume, I would go up to 75% of the total volume compared to my 4802R wwhere I was only using 50%. Took me awhile to figure out what was going on. I was able to finally figure out what happened. After the audyssey calibration, my channel volumes where set very low. So I increased each channel accordingly based on the audyseey settings. Meaning, I bump up the volume channel 6 notches on every channel to give me an incresed master volume while retaining the audssey's calibrated volume per channel. Walaaaa, I now got good master volume at 50%. I really liked the way the audyseey tuned up each channel volume and sounds from each channel are much more distinguished from left to right or vice versa on the surround part.

Noticed that the settings for surround sound volume was higher than the fronts and my sub was way down. But sound was really balanced at low or high volumes which was really great. Is this your experience with your denon's after the audyssey setting was calibrated?

Yup, but I leave my channel levels where Audyssey set them up, so when my pre/pro says 0 dB on its front panel display, I know that it is the Master Reference volume level!

* Yours now needs to say -6 dB, that's all! (If each notch is 1 dB that is; if it is 0.5 dB, then your Master Reference volume needs to say -3 dB to play at the same level than mine.)

** See, Audyssey adjust all speaker channel levels, so that when your Master Volume level says 0 dB, then you have the Reference Level.
- If you change them all by the exact same amount, your Reference Level would also change by the same amount (if you add 3 dBs to all your channels, the Reference Level on your pre/pro or receiver would then become -3 dB, and "ainsi-de-suite").

*** But if you change only few channels with their levels, the Audyssey Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume would be affected, and consequently not being as effective as they were meant to be.
{Alteration on their effectiveness.} > That is for products having those features, plus if you do use them.

I see. I'll see if I will like my setting. I can go back anytime to it's original setting since I wrote the channel volume of each channel. I can really say that the audyssey settings improve my acoustic sound over all. My HT room is not enclosed - it's in the 2nd level and got opening to the foyer and kitchen areas. I'm glad I made the upgrade...
