Yeah another thing is Nolan would never let there be a second unit for the action sequences, I dunno if we'd get Corbould and company handling things as much as they usually do.

Also the character didn't do stupid things that no normal person would do.

Yes, Nolan sucks. Skyfall does not so let's keep Nolan out of it.

wouldn't say Nolan sucks, just not a good fit for Bond.

Amazing how many people "know" Craig is contracted for one more because he doesn't seem to...

"There is no contract. It's up to me," (Craig) told The Sun. "I have the right to change my mind any time I want to."

Which is what I've been telling people for months now; just as I said months ago that highly-placed sources had told me the plan has always been that this should be Craig's last film. I was fairly roundly abused for saying this and basically accused of being a liar (yes, Todd Tomorrow and gamma winstead I'm talking to you). But then there's this, from a Mirror report of the Kermode show, six days ago:

Bond director Sam Mendes has dropped the biggest hint yet that Daniel Craig’s 007 days are over, saying they had agreed SPECTRE was “completion”.

Critically acclaimed Daniel has spent the last month hinting that he was done with the hugely successful spy films after his fourth outing.

Asked about the movie appearing to have a “sense of completion”, Sam admitted: “I think there is and that is deliberate.

"We were both aware of that – and that is something we were eager to achieve as well.”

Given that the film ends with
[Show spoiler]the 00 program terminated, Bond quitting the service and driving off into the sunset in his DB7 with Madeleine
, excuse me if I suggest that I have been somewhat vindicated.

Craig may or may not stay in the role but personally, after SPECTRE, I think he should go. It was kind-of fun to see him as the more typical Bond but I don't think he really suits it. I enjoyed the film well enough but felt it was an awkward marriage of styles that missed more often than it hit.

And, surprisingly - prologue aside - I thought the rest of the action scenes were close to incompetent, particularly the much-touted car chase which was one of the least exciting scenes of the year, partly due to the idiotic decision to intersperse it with exposition. I love Bond but I've got to say - for spy-based action sequences, MI:ROGUE NATION left this on the floor.

Ultimately, returning to the old tropes - which I'll admit I wanted to see - has reminded me of why I'd got bored with them in the first place. It makes more sense than ever to have Idris Elba play Bond, imo - it needs a reboot without it being a reboot, if you see what I mean. But nothing will work if the producers are content to turn out shoddy work like SPECTRE.

One thing they changed from the leaked script is
[Show spoiler]a young, possibly lesbian Irma Bunt being reintroduced,
which never actually happened in the final film.

No worries, I've been very good with Spectre spoilers so far and it won't come to my neck of the woods for another month. Maybe I should stop reading this thread, just to be safe.

Apart from the opening and the train scene the action was very flat. This is because in my view the film never wanted to stay in one place long enough to let the action unfold naturally in pacing, editing, or any built up tension. The death Star from Star Wars having a weakness has nothing on the big arrow pointing at " please shoot here " in this film. It actually boarders on the ridiculous.

What a load of bollocks, exposition during a chase come from The Terminator. It's awesome and the car chase was great.

And you don't need a black Bond anymore than you need a white Shaft. Balls too.

James West was gay and white and they made him black and straight for the film. We all know how the franchise to be ended.

Well, okay then. I thought it was good, very good in places even. However, my biggest beef with the film is probably what most will appreciate, in that it feels like a bit of a throwback to earlier Bond-eras. It's a bit campier, a bit sillier, and many of the old tropes from the Moore/Connery-days are here in full effect, and I liked the Craig films in part because they did away with those, they sidestepped these issues and even in part pointed out the absurdity of them. Also Monica Belluci's character was a complete waste of time, and with a simple rewrite and adding of one line somewhere else, her character wouldn't have been needed in the film at all. One of the most unncessary characters I've seen for quite some time in an already pretty stuffed film.
The action was spectacular in places, and a bit too Micheal Baysplosiony in others. Like Bourne, Bond has become almost an unstoppable robot since his vulnerable take in Casino Royale. Waltz does what he usually does, Léa Seydoux has got nothing on Eva Green but is not without merit. Q's expanded role was appreciated.
So sure, it was a little predictable, but it tied in nicely with Craig's previous films and I thought it also made everything that had come before come full circle in a really beautiful way. If this is indeed Craig's last outing, then he leaves on a high note and at a good place, with most things resolved. I still prefer Skyfall and especially Casino Royale, but this one at least earns itself a solid 7/10

Totally agree about a certain actresses only involvement. 15 mins spent on one line to move the plot along. Seriously 15 mins could have been saved here. In the adverts Bond has a shootout in snow sections with those shades on. In the film the entire sequence is gone and editing is all over the place here. One scene with glasses on for no reason, then next scene pulls a plane out of nowhere. Major cuts in weird places really took me out of the moment
