You're right and I actually like Returns very much too. But I realize I was not clear in my text. I would root for an individual release of Returns too but I think you need to release it along with the old Reeve ones (as five individual releases), first because it is so much linked to the Reeve-verse and then because otherwise I don't think it will really stick in the general opinion's mind.

Nowadays people have in mind the Cavill movies, and elder people still remember the Reeve ones (the first two mostly). Returns is sort of falling into a memory hole.

It probably would get included in a box set with the original movies, but if III is getting its own release (which I love), we might get lucky.

I understand. If there is a box set I may take the whole saga. But if there are individual releases only, I will probably go with Superman I, II and Returns. I have a soft spot for some parts of III (the intro and Dark Superman) but they don't make a good movie unfortunately.

Personally I have no time for Returns and do not want it as part of any Reeve-led set. It’s not a Reeve movie and it came almost two decades later. It blithely ignores the two ‘lesser sequels’ in a way I found insulting at the time. Not everyone hates them.

Haha, that was most definitely a typo or an auto correct thing. I know his name is Christopher Reeve. I’m someone who is constantly peeved by people adding an S at the end of certain words or names unnecessarily, so it’s funny that I just did it myself. We have a supermarket chain in my area called “Hannaford” and a bunch of locals always call it “Hannafords,” and I’m like… THATSNOTWHATITSCALLED

Of course. But in the meantime Warner stills owes the audience to release Returns in 4K as much as III and IV. Preferably individually so that everyone is happy and can pick his match among the movies.

Give me Returns, don’t want IV. One of the worst CBM I’ve ever seen.

They don't owe us anything. They're a business that sells movies.

I rather like IV, mainly because of nostalgia for the novelisation which I bought on holiday in Oban as a child. To a Brit, it's very funny seeing Milton Keynes trying to pass itself off as New York passing itself off as Metropolis.

And I like to think some of the skimmed funds went into MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE...

Does the Vudu cut of the SII still include the blank bullets scene?

Parker Posey was in Superman Returns? Was she Lois?

It's insane how I've seen multiple films with her in and yet I only recently found out who she was. My brain is trying to deny her existence.

Said already above, but they don't owe anyone anything. There may be some core remaining fans of RETURNS, but is it enough for the studio to pimp out this catalogue title one more time onto the home video market? I don't know...

George Reeves? There's a little bit of him in there...but it was more meant as a tribute to Christopher REEVE.

She should have been (people were saying this even at the time of its release), it surely would have made the whole "loose sequel to the Donner films" work better for its "vague history" setup that director B. Singer literally called it...

And clearly Luthor has always cared more about world domination than actually having a romantic partner...which lends some interesting subtexts...especially when Spacey was playing him...

I think Warners should just sweep the whole thing under the rug...which they've essentially done in most other capacities with the franchise. "It seemed like a good idea at the time..." but the industrial truth, which I think I've noted here before...is that this movie was only really pushed into production because the studio had already booked space at FOX STUDIOS SYDNEY in Australia -- likely for the earlier Abrams-Ratner-McG-Superman iteration which had been in pre-production -- and they had to use it or lose it. Singer was negotiating for X-Men 3/4 together over at FOX, but when he committed to rushing into Superman in fall 2004, he was thrown off the FOX lot in L.A. by Tom Rothman (now running SONY Pictures)!!

They deserved a much better movie than Returns. Routh did the best Reeve impression he could, but it didn't feel like a Dick Donner movie, it felt like an imposter... and having Superman and Lois unable to hook back up, hobbled the love story aspect.

The CG effects don't hold up well at all either.

I have mixed feelings about Returns. Didn't think it was 'bad', but it didn't quite click for me either. I would still likely revisit it on UHD BD. Absolutely plan on picking up II and III.

If it were me I would do Christopher Reeve Superman 4k set that didn't include Returns and just sell that separately.

Dream set:

STM: Theatrical redone, removing current monstrosity, Extended and 3hr
S2: Theatrical, Donner Cut and International longest TV cut
S3: Theatrical and TV cut
S4: Theatrical and 120 min cut

All full width, 2:35/2:39 with original audio on the Theatrical of each.

I hope they include it. It’s a bit like Batman Forever in that there’s an amazing comic book film in there but it just falls short. I’m overall very excited for a set of the Reeve films.
