Acoustic Audio Amp Replacement

I removed the amp & made a template from a regular sheet of paper. For the Dayton amp it's 8.5 x 8.5 inches.
I traced around the paper using the top of the factory cut hole for a guide.

I chose to move my lines out just a little. They are closer to 9 in. I made my cut inside of my template for a snug fit.

I removed the vinyl around the cut out area. My Rotizip cuts generates a little heat. I did not want to scorch or tear the vinyl around the amp.

I removed the subwoofer, polyfil, & made my cutout. Be mindful that there will be dust all around the braces inside of the cabinet. I had to spin it & vacuum it several times.

All installation hardware is included. The Dayton amp has speaker leads with end terminals attached. The negative has to be crimped slightly to get a tight fit on the subwoofer. I had a ground loop caused by my cable services. I installed the Dayton Isolation Transformer (pt. #180-075) to get rid of a bad hum. If you get a hum follow the instructions that come with the amp. Sit back & finally enjoy!!!

Sorry that you folks having amp issues. I have no issues as of yet, but I really cannot crank mine up until I get moved into our house @ the end of March. Then i'll see if I have a bad amp

Either way..... if I blow it, I would just replace the amp myself w/ a small Dayton and call it a day.
i'm in the same boat. we should be moving in the next few months. i have was given the nod on a man cave!! she does not want to see speaker stands & subs in our family room.

Hey this looks familiar!

If this continues to be a problem we might have to start a "AA HD-Sub XX" amp replacement thread!

i feel the same about the cost. they are not listed on the website. i got mine from partsexpress. you can use a 3-2 prong adapter from homedepot or lowes. they are 0.65. i ended up using both. the 2 prong will kill the hum by itself if you have one. going to a power conditioner with my next set of upgrades.

They are also available in Wal-Mart in their hardware section. I believe there are two of them in one package for less than $2.

they are dirt cheap, just have to be on the look for them. easy to walk past them.
where is everyone setting their crossover? my cal. set my speakers to "large" & my sub seemed to be playing too much in it's upper frequency range. i decided to set it to 12 o'clock. using test tones this has the crossover high at around 100hz. also confirmed it will play as low as 20hz.
i have a "slot" with small & 80hz setting , but i get a better sound field with the cal. settings. opinions?

sounds great for my room and that dayton amp is great it handles all the bass very well

Hye I got a wiring question anyone could naswer prolly. I've had my 2 sub 15's hooked up 2 ways now.

1- splitter coming from reciver and the signal transfered to the two subs
2-(the way I currently have it) Single cable coming from reciever to the first sub input, and then form the first sub output to the second sub input.

I know the manual says you could do eihter way, but is there an advantage to this not a good idea for one of them or just doesn't matter. I'm goignt o to look at the manuals again a reread them to see if I mihgt have missed something.

edit: by the way, I have sen some people post on here that their AA don't rattle their picures and walls. But I have to disagree (granted room acoustics and diminsion play a HUGE part on this) But mine do. Now I do have 2 of them. But still I can easily rattle everyhting in my house even in the bathroom when I take a shower if there is a good bass scene I can cleanly hear it over the shower.

Smile AA Sub

My AA HD-SUB15 certainly rattles my house. The opening scene from TOP GUN is especially good at moving pictures and various pieces of brick-a-brack from their intended locations. Yesterday I was playing the 1812 Overture ( at concert hall levels, of course ). It set the neighborhood dogs to howling. My, oh my. What a bad boy I have been.

Thumbs up Went the Dayton Amp route

Well guys,(and gals)
After little to no help from Deep Discount, I went the Dayton amp route. I purchased the Dayton SA240 amp. Not having any power tools, besides a drill (my carpentry skills are lacking at best) I went the old fashioned route; a keyhole saw and file. I did notice that the poly-fill, if you can even call it that, was just one measly sheet of 1/4 inch foam. But, I went ahead and used that since It was all I have right now, and I can always add more later. I left the cut-out snug so that it would have a nice, tight fight. I didn't want to chance any air leaks. The amp itself is pretty much plug-n-play as others have described. I tested it before I dropped it in and it worked fine, no hum at all. I do have it plugged into a surge protector. I dropped the amp in, tightened it down, and powered everything up. Immediately I found out that this amp was way more powerful then the one it replaced. Even though if you compared the specs the HD amp should have been the more powerful but, whatever. I found out that I was going to have to re-run my audyssey set up to get the right sound. I left the positioning the same, but I did leave a couple of more inches space from the wall since I figured that this amp/sub would be moving a lot more air. After I ran the configuration, man lets just say the difference was like night and day. I have the sub amps crossover set to it's highest frequency and the power set at halfway, so that the audyssey set-up would set the crossover. This was the first time that I have ever ran the the set up and it didn't default to the "Double-Bass" setting. I knew right then I was on to something. The only thing I changed was the crossover on the center speaker. For some reason the audyssey always wants to set it at 80 hz and the sub at 100. I just set the center to 100 hz to match, so that nothing would get lost in the mix. The center speaker is an Infinity Primus PC350. The fronts are a pair of Infinity Primus P362 and the rear are Infinity Primus 150 speakers, so they're matched pretty well. But, I have to tell you I had no idea how much sound I had been missing in the passed! I was hearing LFE sounds that I hadn't even noticed in the past. I picked a Blu that I've watched several times so I could hear how much of a difference there was. (Live Free or Die Hard) Everything just had so much more detail. And the low end, well I didn't hear it as much as felt it. And with force too. I'm not sure if the the amp/sub made that much difference, or I just got lucky with the set-up this time. But, I have to say I'm more pleased then I have ever been with the sound I'm getting from all sources. From Blu's to the flac files on my PC, they all sound pristine. So, all in all I'm kind of glad I went ahead and purchased that HD-12 sub. It may not have been what I expected, but as the old saying goes I took a lemon and made lemonade. lol So thanks to all who shared their stories and experiences with these Accoustic Audio subs. And a big thanks to Big Daddy for starting this thread. I know he has to feel bad for all the people who ended up mad or dissapointed, but that was no fault of his. He, and alot of other people had great luck with their purchases. And if it wasn't for trail blazers such as him, willing to take a risk and going this route, I wouldn't have ended up with such a sweet sounding set-up. So give your self a pat on the back Big Daddy, you deserve it not just for this, but for all the hard work you put into your guides and suggestions. All's well that ends well.

Congrats on your setup! . I have to totally agree with you. BigDaddy is the bomb! He's been super to me through my ordeal with my sub and tried everything he could to help me out...he even sent me his driver when we thought that might have been it.

Add me to the list of people with a AA sub that buzzes.

I have a HD Sub10....are there any fixes for this sub? Or am I going to have to gut it like everyone else?
