So there are two versions. If your insert has just the pumpkin head, it's missing the slipcover. If yours has sack Sam on the insert, it never had a slipcover. It also may or may not have a digital copy.

Digital copies are first run unless the studio releasing it sees fit to keep it going. Most do not.
Thanks, that makes sense too as eventually the DC's expire and it is just a waste of a disc to include it seeing as it won't work anyways. Unless of course it's a combo DVD/DC on the same disc.

It just depends on what they do... I have the DVD set and it came in the SpEd box, so if they do something like that again, I will be happy!!!

All the dang netflix covers I am finding online are for ps3 cases only. I am having a hell of a time finding on that fits a blu-ray case

I just alphabetized my collection so I need some kind of cover for it even though it is only temporary until Sony makes it part of the xmedia bar

Get one of the netflix ps3 size covers and use this program here http://members.upc.nl/e.heesakkers3/undercoverxp/
And select bluray from the templates when printing. It will shrink the cover to fit a bluray template.

Try it and see if you like it.

I like those Friends covers however I doubt Warner would release on bluray.
I have them all on DVD and watched them like a million time each episode so I see no value of me double dipping again since I won't watch them much. Seriously, the wife and I used to watch them everyday for almost 3 years. We would watch them after work when we are eating dinner.

That is a great program. I was just afraid on the one I had the spine would be too big and wrap around the case on me since I got it from thecoversproject which just mostly does custom covers for games only. Thank you, it did print out nice and looks good

These look absolutely amazing, to the point I'll be considering printing a custom cover for the first time if Warner keeps the crappy ones (IMO) they used for the DVD set in the Blu-Ray release.

In regards to it actually being released or not, there have been rumors since 2007 of a possible release. I own every season on DVD and have seen every episode countless times. Unfortunately, due to the 1080p resolution of an HDTV, the Friends DVDs do NOT hold up well at all. I always thought the image was a bit soft, but it's even softer in a bigger-sized TV with greater resolution, not to mention extremely pixelated even from a good distance. I would love for them to release the seasons in Blu-Ray (even if I'd only buy S1-S6, with maybe S7 and S8 thrown in when Amazon lowers the price, as I personally dislike much of the two latter seasons), and as they were shot in film and Friends is still one of the most popular sitcoms worldwide, I wouldn't say it's a long shot at all, but a very good possibility.

Back to the custom cover, just two small nitpicks:

1) The original aspect ratio of Friends is 1.33. I doubt Warner would crop the image to make it fit a 16:9 screen (and I hope they do not. I love and violently defend widescreen, but I defend original aspect ratio much more).

2) Since this is Warner and they still don't understand consumers like lossless audio even in TV titles (take a lesson from FOX, Sony and Universal: lossless audio in every release), I'm betting Friends would come in Dolby Digital 5.1. One can hope they start releasing TV-on-Blu with lossless audio by the time those are released, though!

Yeah, I know, that's just there to fill the space. I'll put the correct info once it's released

Although I agree with your point of view regarding the audio and picture for a possible Friends Blu-ray release, I also have to point out that it is quite useless in my opinion.

The picture is 1.33:1, which doesn't work very well on Blu-ray. I agree with you that should Friends be released on Blu-ray, it should be in the original aspect ratio. But apart from having a 1.33:1 aspect ratio, you do have to remember that the original materials go back to 1994. Add the fact that it's a sitcom and you just know that they didn't use the best camera's available. After all, Friends is all about the comedy/story and nowhere about special effects or even action. It's shot at just a handful locations most of the time, so they didn't need any state of the art camera's back then. Of course, Friends will receive a better PQ on Blu-ray, much better than any Blu-ray player can upscale the DVD, but it remains sitcom quality.

On to audio. Again, I agree with you that Warner Bros. should not put Dolby Digital on the disc as the primary audio track. Of course on Blu-ray's such as Enter the Dragon or The Shining it won't make much of a difference, since those movies are so old that a lossless audio track wouldn't add much to it. But then again... why the heck would you want Dolby TrueHD for instance for a sitcom like Friends? It again doesn't make sence. There is 99,9% talking and laughing, it really doesn't make any difference at all by using Dolby TrueHD or any other lossless codec.

To put things in perspective: I am a huge Friends fan and I've watched the complete series a couple of times, but I wouldn't buy a Blu-ray release. Nothing can justify a Blu-ray release for Friends in my opinion. It's just a little better picture quality, but it remains 1.33:1 (of course, otherwise you'd lose out on details) and audio has nothing to gain either.

But I have to say I love the cover art!

1.33:1 works just as well on blu as 2.35:1 did on our pervious square television screens. Just because every image doesn't fill the screen entirely doesn't mean it doesn't "work".

Read again.

I never said that 1.33:1 doesn't work. I said it doesn't work very well, there's a difference.

And you're right about the fact that 2.35:1 (and 1.78:1) doesn't work very well on 1.33:1 tv screens, but that's the reason we've got widescreen tv's nowadays.

That's exactly the reason why I see no point in a Friends Blu-ray release. It's not that it won't work [at all] or that it isn't better than the dvd version (it will be better). It's just not worthy for the Blu-ray format.

In my opinion the Blu-ray format is all about the best audio and picture quality and you just don't get that from a 1994 1.33:1 sitcom transfer. There are examples of old movies that work very well on Blu-ray, like The Godfather, which is even older, but like I said Friends has nothing else to offer on Blu-ray except some better picture quality and maybe a tiny audio improvement which nobody will ever be able to hear, not even with their best intentions.

As much as I understand that the benefits that come with Blu-ray releases won't be taken advantage of with a Friends Blu-ray release (higher grade audio, widescreen presentation)... I, myself being a Friends super-fan, would still love to have the show on blu-ray given the picture quality was upgraded as best as it could! I know the show will still be framed in a 1.33:1 frame, and I wouldn't want it cropped to 16:9 otherwise, I will still enjoy the release...

The only thing that would stop me is if they slap a $300 plus price tag on the whole series... yes it would be blu-ray, but too high of a price tag would steer away audiences... especially since most Friends enthusiasts will already own all ten on DVD! Also considering the complete series of Lost (6 seasons) will only be $260 for Blu-ray and the episodes are twice the length!

I've waited patiently for a few years for this Blu-ray release... but if they are going to do it, they'd better do it right!

To add to my point... I do believe that Friends should get a good picture upgrade if Warner puts sufficient effort into it...

The show was shot with film cameras and so the native image is higher than 1080 resolution, so the rest is up to Warner!
