That scene looked great on the big screen. I noticed the new color grading there as well, but iI had to actively look for it and remember the screenshot comparison. Once the film started and the lights went down, I did not notice the new colors without actively searching for them. When the film reached Rivendell and Frodo woke up, I thought I was seeing white until I concentrated and, once again, remembered the comparison.

This a bit off topic but goes with what as been going on in this thread.
I never understood and never will understood the reaction some have over changes made to movies. Some of the reaction as so funny you would think Peter Jackson came to your house and kill your firstborn child ![]() I mean come now, these are only movies, are you really going to get this upset over it and get an ulcer? If someone ever came around and decided to had CGI scenes to The Great Dictator and turn in into color I still would not react like some of you are. It's just a movie, it will not affect my life in any way shape or form. Lucas is turning Star Wars in 3D, I love Star Wars and hate 3D, should I start foaming at the mouth like a raging lunatic because of it? I see this in the same vein as those going into deep mourning because an actor they don't know nothing about on a personal level died. The sad part is that I see a few names that I saw in other threads and it's always the same negative comments all over again. I wonder if any of them are ever happy? They must have serious sad lives to be so upset over changes made to movies. The saddest part is that I wonder if they would even get this upset if something serious would happen to a love one in their life? After all the love ones are not movies and are not so important ![]() If you think this release is such garbage, please don't spend your hard earn money on it but stop posting your anger, you are only hurting yourself more and just causing yourself more pain for nothing. Posting over and over how you hate this release will simply not help you and it's not going to change the mind of those who want to buy it because they are not so concern over the changes, you know the fanboys that will buy anything the studio give them as you so politely called them. |

Well saw this last night and I tried looking for any sort of green tinting or "push." Now I'm not the most savvy person to comment on it but I may have been seeing it where it wasn't such as when Galadriel is tempted by the Ring and gets all scary. There is a bit of green, but I would have to go back and check the DVDs but it may have originally been there. Snow definitely looked white, especially at Cahadras. So no green version of the 2004 DVD of Empire Strikes Back and its blue snow.
So I'm still looking forward to the Blu-ray. but like many here, I wish those supplements were on BDs for consistency and to save up space. Even if they are in SD, it would make the set smaller. Looking forward to Two Towers next week. |

This thread needs to calm the h3ll down before you all give yourselves strokes!!
Look... All we can do at this point is wait and see EXACTLY what it looks like on our own sets. Remember what you are looking at are screen caps that may not look the same on a professionally callibrated set. Personally, if when I get it and the color is way off I will get in line with you seeing if something can be done. But until then we need to chill a bit. If this is the way PJ wanted it there may not be much to be done, but if the end pressing is not like he did there surely will. The discussion is getting retarded at this point with repetative complaints and nothing new. It makes me think I am in the Star Wars thread |

Back OT: I'm getting more excited for this all the time, particularly FOTR - despite the tint and colour change. Whatever. In the end, who cares? I'm just happy the EE will be on BD. ![]() |

Even my roommate, who's into Blu-ray but not a douche about it (no offense), KNOWS we're taking it overboard because he's seen all the screenshots and videos. We both agree that when we're watching the film, we probably won't end up noticing this. It's much ado about nothing, unfortunately. |

I know there's a vague quote to that effect. But if you're completely precluding any possibility of a screwup outside PJ's supervision, and that the digital cinema package and the blu-ray color timing may not match, I'd like to know what makes that so certain.

History is bound to repeat itself.
And so, here we go again... Why this kind of debate has always have to turn into a war of cheap, personal shots at other posters? And, as it is often the case, is mostly those who don't care about the changes who are waging the dirty war against those who do care, attacking them instead of discussing their opinions. If I happen to dislike the changes, why can not I say so without a group of posters telling me to shut up, asking me if I don't have any bigger worry in my life, or trying to convince me that, as long as the changes are "director's approved", I should like them and have no further complaints? And why that group of members keep on posting and posting to refute, when not to mock, every opinion they don't agree with? Can't we just agree to disagree, and all have our different opinions or tastes on the matter expressed here as a healthy basis for an enlightening debate? I, for one, a) am opposed to any kind of revisionism on films, no matter how much that revisionism "fixes" or "improves" things. b) don't mind about that same revisionism, no matter how extreme, no matter how much the final product deviates from the original, as long as that same original is offered too in the best possible audiovisual quality. That is, I don't mind about any alternate version, as long as it is offered as a CHOICE instead of a REPLACEMENT. c) couldn't care less if the new color timing really reflects Peter Jackson's wishes or not. See points a) and b) d) have a hard time believing something like this could have happened without Jackson's express wishes, but, at the same time, it feels somewhat odd to do this when you are supposedly trying to make up for the botched up job on the Theatrical Ed. BDs. e) have even a harder time to process this when taking into account how hardcore and anal are most of the fans of the Trilogy, and, although I am not one of those (I like the 3 films to a different extent, but I am not any kind of Tolkienite who can recite the geography and the races of the Middle Earth by memory), I don't mean any offence or disrespect by that, just stating as a fact who are many of the people in the audience that have turned this films into such a mammoth of a hugely profitable success. Needlessly stirring the waters in such an alienating way for your fan base seems both unlikely and unwise. f) and last, to make matters more complicated, the theory about Jackson wanting to get rid of the original palette of the movie in favor of a more unreal, less earth-like one does not add up, for, as it has been already pointed by others on this thread, that same green-tinted palette has not been applied to the other two films. So, as it is now, there are a lot of unknown factors yet. But something is certain, no matter how many hard facts are brought up from here on: the new color timing is NOT the one the movie has shown on home video for a decade now, and I and many other fans of the movie do NOT like it. At all. And of course I DO have much bigger worries in my life, and just throwing such cheap retort is, again, just a puerile cheap shot. But, as it happens, this board is for Blu-ray discussion Last edited by Roy Batty; 06-16-2011 at 05:50 AM. |
