Don't forget that Star Trek: Starfleet Academy series that sounds like it's going to be a Discovery spin-off and set in the 32nd Century. I think I read somewhere they are looking to start filming on that late this year after the Section 31 movie and Strange New Worlds Season 3 finish filming.

Tawny Newsome (Lt. Beckett Mariner from Star Trek Lower Decks) is one of the writers on Starfleet Academy. She recently talked about working in the writers room for the series and what the show is going to be like a couple of weeks ago at the Saturn Awards

But Starfleet Academy is the only new Star Trek series announced currently.

The final season started today with two episodes. They were pretty good with lots of action. It definitely looked like it was filmed on the Volume at times though.

The premiere episodes set up the season which is basically a treasure hunt. Surprisingly it was
[Show spoiler] a follow up to the TNG episode “The Chase”. The treasure is the tech the Progenitors used to seed humanoid life in the galaxy.

I liked them but I’m a fan of Discovery. Other people might not like it.

The first episode was a bit of a mixed bag for me. I liked the more adventurous/fun spirit they've gone for, but they've also doubled down on some of the more frustrating aspects. The relationship stuff really isn't working for any of the characters, not even Saru and T'rina where it's all so formal and stilted. The quipping during actions sequences felt too much, but the action sequences themselves were rather spectacular.

I wasn't expecting the link to
[Show spoiler]that old TNG episode
and it was a welcome surprise. Similarly I thought the
[Show spoiler]Data-like android
was performed well.

How in the world did
[Show spoiler]Michael immediately identify the correct planet from a scribbled drawing in the diary?

Callum Keith Rennie could be a great addition if his character gets the time.

Decent enough start to the final season. More action & less Michael crying is always going to be a plus, though
[Show spoiler]the two ships nose diving into a planet to stop an avalanche
is possibly the dumbest thing I've ever seen in Star Trek.

Like the new antagonists more than I like most of the Discovery crew. Like the treasure hunt aspect. Still hate the unconnected floating engines on some of the ships. Still not a fan of the magically appearing phasers. Not sure what's going on with Tilly's hair. Looks weird. More Callum Keith Rennie on my screen is never a bad thing.

& hey, how do you get your audience to like your Trek show more?
[Show spoiler]Connect it to an old Trek show they loved!

The new season has been okay so far, if not reinventing the wheel. There's some adventurous fun to it. But I did really enjoy episode 4, I love me some time travel shenanigans. Rayner's presence continues to be welcome.

Reno's small appearances are always the best part of any episode.

Not just money, but all the hard working SFX guys that make it look as good as it does, their time and talent should be used on something far more deserving.

I'll kind of be glad when this show ends, so maybe you guys will stop b****ing about it and trolling the TREK threads.

Yeah and it was buried in a boring backstory I didn't need to see. Especially when there are multiple crew members on Discovery going through more interesting things. Plus the ship they find could have easily been any random ship. There wasn't any reason for it to be the one it was other than fan service. And even then there is more interesting things I would like to see about it other than it just being a known backdrop for the episode.
