The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman is about insanity and madness, Van Gogh’s paintings used more and more yellow later in his life as he too started to go insane. In Russia, the colloquial term for an insane asylum is “yellow house”, because they used to be painted yellow.

The poster has nothing to do with the colour scheme in the film, but it doesn’t have to. It’s more subtle than that.

Doesn't the fact that we are discussing this poster 40 years later signal something to its detractors? Its unique and attention grabbing and makes you rethink what movie posters should be like. The poster is high art like the film. It conveys the essential nature of the film, the blood etc is a common element in many films and it de-emphasizes that.

I mean I don't think I would have noticed those without that video, do you ?

also most aren't that different maybe a 1 sec delay in overlap
think Jack axe door scene was biggest difference, but again the music still works the way it is
and the ext frequency range I prefer over mono
all tracks and effects have much better LFE and frequency range so technically they do sound better,
I heard things in the original music tracks much clearer than ever before and it made it the whole experience even better for me

if Second Sight or Synapse where doing this they'd prob be able to get a lot more right than WB's and that's a shame for me too
still while not being 100% accurate it's still the best it's ever looked and sounded imo

I agree I would have never noticed for sure.

I was more surprised by how careless the creators of the 5.1 were with the track. They didn't even attempt to make the audio cues identical to the original mono.

For a Kubrick classic, it just comes across as lazy and disrespectful.

The original theatrical artwork is dull and uninspired, clearly masquerading as profound for some of you LOL. But it's always this or that with your types that think that every disc release needs to pay homage to the original art or recycle it on the cover for the 5th time. "it should have had the same vhs/dvd/whatever cover art again!!" they say. No, it shouldn't. Companies should try something new most of the time and inspire new people to buy the movie for the first time. There's a reason why this particular art hasn't been used on domestic The Shining covers before and that's because it sucks. Something that, again, MOST people here weren't even around for when it was new. All of these home video releases and the yellow cover hasn't been used once until this week's steelbook. That should tell you something.

Plus the yellow steelbook is more representative of the recent Room 237 documentary, it's mainstream exposure, and all of its marketing materials anyways. That's where the recent inspiration and momentum has come from.

You weren't even born when this movie came out. Neither was I. But I guess that you really attached yourself to the orange poster image that came on each disc or something. I don't see it in any of the various official trailers that I've looked up online. I even went back and checked the theatrical trailer on both my DVD and my BD version and it's not there. So I have no idea what you're going on about with that orange screenshot that's apparently yellow and on all of your home video copies.

So yeah, I stand by my original statement. It's really weird when people attach themselves to something like this minimal original yellow theatrical art when it was never really a big thing in the first place, and especially if it wasn't in their lifetimes. People didn't have yellow 'The Shining' posters in the 80s nor walked around wearing yellow 'The Shining' t-shirts. It wasn't a thing.

Movies anywhere sent me an email and said they went out of business a month or 2 back. Probably have to get it on Vudu. I just activated Cheech and Chong 40th Ann up in smoke that way ... A code. Good luck!

I checked the code on release day, by entering it while logged out on Movies Anywhere, and it brought it up with no problems. Little 4K symbol in the corner.

As many have said on this thread, easily one of the BEST 4K outputs ever on the format. If only Warner would do the same to many of the others, we would be in film heaven....

Looking at it for more than a second it's obviously yellow.

LOL. I bought it at Sunrise Records (a Canadian chain) and I grabbed one of the last ones, the guy at the checkout said they were selling tons of them.

I guess it's a popular shirt?
