FOX's 24

The show definitely needs a shake up. Legacy was horribly lazy and uninspired. There was so much pointless filler, predictable plot twists, soap opera moments and recycled plot lines. They really need to take the series in a new direction if they're going to insist continuing it.

I think the show can work without Jack had they used an established character like Tony as the lead, or at least create a new one of the same caliber as Kate Morgan and Renee Walker. But Eric really didn't work for me. He never really came across as a fresh character and most of his scenes/dialogue felt like they were really written with Jack Bauer in mind - but without Kiefer we're have a less charismatic actor filling in as a proxy and it never feels authentic.

Another thing I'd like to see is the series to get away from using Middle Eastern villains. It worked in Season 2 when the world was going through the post 9/11 period, and Marwan was a solid follow up in Season 4, but since then they've just become boring and all feel the same. The best 24 villains have always been the more James Bond types like Nina, Logan, Cheng, Henderson, Gaines, Mandy etc. I want to see more of those.

Fox Chiefs Shed Light on '24' Future.

'24' will depart from terrorism if it ever comes back.

24 Will Likely Live Again (With a Much Different Set Up)
The swift demise of 24: Legacy is not something Walden or Madden seemed too cut up about. "We're really exploring what the future might be," said Walden, stressing that the 24 brand is fluid. "Perhaps it will live in a more anthological story franchise ... our goal was just to do something to extend the life of the franchise." Fox has already discussed the next possible iteration with executive producers Howard Gordon and Brian Grazer, with Walden saying "they have a really exciting idea" in its very early stages.

Returning to the show's homeland security themes, however, is off the table for now. "The next version of 24 will not be CTU," said Madden, referring to the show's fictional counter-terrorism organization. "We want to take that same kind of ticking clock and apply it to something else." That something else, Walden joked, was not going to be too much of a stretch, like science-fiction, but she copped afterwards to a small group of reporters that viewers were "sick" of seeing current events translated to drama.

That would be ****ING EPIC. I still feel lucky just to have gotten live another day. The intensity he brings. Best part of that season from him: "wake the ***** up", and also him tossing Margot out the window.

yes, we ALL Love Kiefer, he is/was the Heart of the Show, for sure - BUT, I believe he has moved on (or is trying to), AND, "If" he were to come back, they'd be looking at HUGE Costs, which is one of the Main if not THEE Main reason they rebooted with new characters/actors. With him, the costs were astronomical, plus just the Overall Costs involved in doing the show.

They prob need to somehow "downsize" things altogether, & as noted above, get away from the "this year's Terrorist plot!", & change it up somehow. Apparently, they have some ideas on this so hopefully it can still work - with or without a certain actor.

The 24 franchise may live another day. But with a lady standing front and center.

EW can confirm that a new incarnation of the series is in the works from Fox, as Deadline first reported.

The new 24 show will focus on a female lead within the criminal justice world in real time as she works to uncover a conspiracy against a potentially innocent death row inmate with a time-sensitive execution date. 24 executive producers Howard Gordon and Brian Grazer will produce along with Jeremy Doner (The Killing), who will write the script with Gordon.

This will be the fourth iteration of 24, following the original, 24: Live Another Day, which also featured Jack Bauer, and 24: Legacy, which focused on a new set of characters and was canceled last June after one season.

I would love to see a brand new character with a new female lead. Someone like Nina Dobrev, Keri Russel, Tatiana Maslany, Eva Green or Troian Bellisario because their TV Shows ended and they were leads. It should be easy for them to bring back 24 to his glory days.

Yvonne Strahovski is already established in 24 and a solid lead. Sure she is doing Handmaiden but it is a low episode series with a supporting role.

Better yet, cast Annie Wersching as the lead. Might make up for the season 8 thing.

She’s doing a show on Hulu, but that has a low episode count and the production schedule is different than normal network TV.

The new iteration will feature an entirely different premise. It would be a legal thriller drama, so we'd be lucky if we get a glimpse of CTU or its agents.

I take it none of you actually read the article.
This iteration wouldn’t take place in the world of CTU.
And the lead is a prosecuting attorney trying to correct a injustice and save the life of a character she wrongly convicted.
It’s an entirely new take on the 24 concept.

I like the notion of making it in an anthology show in the real time format, though the actual story premise doesn't sound overly thrilling.

Uuuugh...it's hard to read into how this will play out.

On paper it sounds incredibly lame. If there is intensity and action surrounding the questionable premise, then we'll see what happens.
