Multiple Camera Angles for DVD

I remember the multiple angles on dvd for music concerts and lame erotica. I know the Metallica: Cunning Stunts had multiple shifting angles.

I was going to say that.

I remember going to Frys when they had a full aisle of porn DVDs like it was nothing special and most of it was so proud to feature DTS and multiple angles.

The best use for the multiple angles would have been for movies with VAR... to give the option of not having VAR ... that would have been useful !
Or to give theatrical and revisionist versions of movies.

Just upgraded Indiana Jones series from Blu to UHD.... Not sure if it's ever been cheaper but it's under $20/movie now.

Was happy with the Blu and I already have the 4K DV ATMOS on my itunes copies but thankfully I'll never watch those now that I'll have the real thing.

I hope I don't fall for the 8K nonsense.

For most of us, 4K will be our last upgrade. Too many hurdles for 8K to become a reality, and unless we have a large screen, there will be little change to "see"

My screen is 128" in scope mode and around 100" in 16:9 mode.

I can easily see the difference between upsampled 1080p and 4K and was very happy not only to get the new format but also to be able to get a compatible projector !

I wouldn't be against 8k for theaters and auditoriums but at home it's going to be one of those "don't know what value is" or "you get what you pay for" awards.

I believe you can get what you pay for if you do all the research ahead of time. Just throwing money at stuff isn’t the way to go and price of something is only one aspect.

The most value is from VR headsets that people may choose to watch films on. 8K would give a lovely image even magnified.

If 8K display's only bragging point is increased resolution, then I am not very interested. If they were to offer other more genuinely noticeable improvements, then that would be worth considering. This obsession with resolution alone does not excite me.

The major roadblock for me is that without any of the major studios committing to offering real 8K content, what's the point? I know 8K displays upscale lower resolution content, but I am not going to buy a new TV just to upscale my discs or to watch 8K cat videos on youtube.

Those of you with projectors might appreciate the increased resolution seeing as you have humongous screens already, but those of that use TVs are pretty much limited to 85" screens. The price jump from 85" to 98"- 100" is extreme and way out of the reach of most of us mere mortals.

These are my current reservations about 8K displays, but I would still very much like to see them demonstrated in person. I would love to be impressed by them, but if they fail to do so, then I will pass. If 4K is the last format that I use, I will remain more than happy with it.

A person can not have too much Cary Grant on blu-ray, or Errol Flynn for that matter, so I have these arriving today:

What we really need now is for someone to release Arsenic And Old Lace on blu-ray.

I am finally adding this long overlooked movie to my collection:

This pandamndemic has made new releases few and far between, but it has given us a wealth of catalog titles to choose from.

I could see in 10 years 4K TVs not being sold anymore in lieu of 8K TVs. Maybe a few low-end 4K TVs would still be sold.

If there is little content, then no point to upgrade

The 8K TV manufactures have this situation, they can ramp up production but they won't get anywhere with almost zero 8K content.

Going from HD to 4K meant an increase from 2M to 8M pixels per frame. Manageable. Going from 4K to 8K means 8M to 32M. That's a lot of pixels to deal with.

It doesn't matter what they plan, they will soon learn the hard way how reliant they need to be on theatrical.

Old film review.

Ok, here it goes. For the record, I am 100% a M.Night fan, the film industry is way better for him being involved in it.
Having said that, I do acknowledge his shortcomings.

Firs of all, this film is beautifully shot, M.Night has managed to make an expansive area very claustrophobic. He weaves in and out of characters, he dangles above them, he semi freezes a shot or character to focus in on reaction, the camera work only enhances the off kilter, surreal feel of the beach.
The sound mix is effective with the various screams and conversations in the background adding to the chaos and there was a couple of spacial effects that are going to be fun to experience again in Atmos at home. Can’t wait to own this in 4K!

To the film, the build up is absolutely fine and not at all long winded, whoever claimed that must have attention issues. It’s used to give us a few subtle and not so subtle clues as to what is coming later.
The characters are mostly likeable but the dialogue is a little clunky. Did I care? not one bit! Once the characters hit the beach, the film never lets up with several memorable moments amongst the absolute chaos.
M.Night shoots the reactions of others rather than zooming in on injury detail for the most part and this only adds to the surreal feel. The transformations are off camera and the reveals presented from the character’s family viewpoints. The FX/make up is for the most part well done, mostly subtle and clever.
There could certainly be some more meat on the bones of most characters but I honestly felt like the pace and feel of the film made up for it.
I feel that the main family ( Vicky Krieps as the mother, Gael Garcia Bernal as the father and their son and daughter played by various young actors were the standouts. I feel Thomasin McKenzie probably had the most difficult and complicated role as the teenage daughter (Maddox)but the other actors were solid.
As for the son (Trent) Alex Wolf fared best, once again having (for me) the most challenging role as the teen version of his character.
Rufus Sewell fared best from the supporting actors in my opinion.

The ending will divide opinion I believe. It did feel a little too sugar coated by the final scene but I was invested enough to buy into it.
This is not some some silly reset button though. The film has very real and devastating consequences for some (most) characters.

Overall, a relentlessly off kilter, beautifully shot mystery. It’s an assault on the senses at times and I can’t wait to rewatch at home in 4K on the projector.

My rating would be 4/5.

Top 5 for reference

The Sixth Sense 5/5
Split 4/5
Unbreakable 4/5
Signs 4/5
Old 4/5

Clearly, you enjoyed it better than Brian Orndorf did; he gave the movie a 2 out of 10.

He gave Snake Eyes a 5 out of 10. Of course, I have noticed that he rates a lot of movies poorly.

https://www.blu-ray.com/Snake-Eyes-G...229218/#Review

I will definitely watch Old to judge for myself, but probably not Snake Eyes. I'm not the biggest fan of the G.I. Joe movies.

Yeah, to me that just came across as a hate filled review. I’m not a fan.

Just for clarity, I’m referring to the ‘Old’ review.

Some friends said that Snake Eyes was mediocre and they edited the fight scenes horribly.
