Pryor really is stuck in a bad situation, first off his draft stock isn't incredibly high. And secondly, there is no way he will win the Heisman or Ohio State win a national title next season now. I can't say I feel bad for him, if you break the rules you deserve to be punished.

Agreed. Him and the other players who "broke the rules" only have two options. Come back next season, serve the suspension, and watch their stocks/Draft positions fall or declare for the Draft at their current position. Sure. There is a chance Pryor can come back after missing 5 games and put up some incredible numbers, and maybe staying around the same level as he is now, but that is a long shot.

Pryor is still probably a 2nd or 3rd round pick. He'd be foolish to come back for little more than half a season IMO. And obviously he doesn't care about college honors anyway or he wouldn't be selling things like his Big 10 Title ring.

lol and after AJ Green was all over the news this past season how you couldn't see that and just hold the ring for a year or w/e and then sell it is beyond me

And don't forget the free tats. Gotta have those ridiculous looking things right now. No time to wait till you make NFL dollars to get them.

He better hope there isn't a rookie cap in place by the time he is drafted and his contract is drawn up, with his stubbornness to not switch positions for the NFL he isn't going to be very successful.

Nice to see Iowa get a bowl win to cap off this pathetic season. It was bad enough for the team to go 7-5 after starting the season in the top 10, but the way they lost every game (led or tied in the 4th quarter of every game) made it especially painful. A bad record sucks, but the players were disappointing too. Iowa's all-time leading receiver Derrell Johnson-Koulianos gets arrested for multiple drug charges. Running back Brandon Wegher leaves the team before the season, running back Jewel Hampton gets hurt and is leaving the team, and running back Adam Robinson was suspended for the bowl game and got arrested Monday for marijuana possession, likely ending his tenure as a Hawkeye. Fortunately Marcus Coker looks like a future star and they got a top athlete prospect coming in next year so they should be alright.

Darren Rovell of CNBC thinks if Leach isn't hired tomorrow then he isn't going to be the next coach. There's also rumors that Maryland is interested in Rich Rodriguez. Michigan would cry tears of joy if Maryland took Rich Rod and they didn't have to pay his buyout.

Rich Rod at Maryland? I'm much rather have Leach if I'm a Maryland fan.

Mike Leach is a bit intense for an almost good program that hasn't been great in a long time, isn't he?

And yet the players can't make a nickel for their services...

Schools with the biggest one-year profits:
Texas - $68.8 Mill
Georgia - 52.5 Mill
Penn St. - 50.4 Mill
Michigan - 44.9 Mill
Florida - 44.3 Mill

http://money.cnn.com/2010/12/29/news...lars/index.htm

Quote:
College football's $1.1 billion profit

The richest college football programs got richer in 2010, pocketing more than $1 billion in profits for the first time.

The profit for the 68 teams that play in the six major conferences was up 11% from the prior school year, according to a CNNMoney analysis of figures filed by each school with the Department of Education.

In the school year that ended in 2010, the vast majority of the schools in one of these deep-pocketed conferences posted a profit. Four of them broke even and only one -- Wake Forest -- reported a loss.

On average, each team earned $15.8 million last year, or well over $1 million per game.

They posted that jump in combined profit even though revenue rose by only 6% to $2.2 billion. That means the schools had a combined profit margin of 49%, enough to make any pro team owner green with envy.

The thing is those football profits are paying for virtually every other sport (with the exception of men's basketball). Thanks to Title IX schools are forced to give equal opportunities to women's athletics so the football team has to support the women's swimming, track, cross country, softball, golf, etc teams. There are also a lot of unprofitable men's sports getting support from football and basketball as well. It may look like football is making a profit, but if you look at the athletic department as a whole most are losing money or at best breaking even.

Ya, I've commented before about Title IX causing deep losses in revenue for many colleges. The often large donations from rich alimni also complicates things when trying to figure out the financial situation of college sports. Some universities like Oklahoma St. can even have one billionaire (T. Boone Pickens) funding the entire athletic department.

After catching 2 passes for 10 yards in the Military Bowl Maryland wide receiver Torrey Smith announced he will be going pro. Smith is projected as a late first or early second round pick.

He would have been perfect for Leach (who by the way was at the campus on sunday ) I think he's a better WR then Heyward-Bey was more polished I mean.

The comment about making NFL owners green with envy is hilarious. They don't pay players in college. Technically, 35% of revenue in pro football goes to operations and salaries of coaches, staff, the owner(s) etc... therefore the pro's do it better than the college teams, posting profits off a smaller revenue share.
