First off, yes I copy/pasted this from the Dazed and Confused thread, but I thought it would be appropriate here too:

If you look on the Criterion site, it only lists 'Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 soundtracks' for the Dazed and Confused blu-ray. I was pretty sure that it wouldn't just be the lossy versions, what with it being Criterion, but I sent them an email asking about the details on the audio.

I just received this response from them:

"Thanks for your email!

I've been informed it's DTS-HD.

Hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns, and thank you for supporting Criterion!

Best,
Jon Mulvaney"

I thought you guys might like to know.

Just watched Beauty and the Beast for the first time today. What a beautiful picture. Everything seemed perfect, and I could not be any more pleased with this blind buy. (I am going to watch it again right now)

The Music Room will be viewed this evening.

Well I've lost all hope now. You're the third person who said B&N did this. I'm still waiting for my copy.

I'm still waiting for B&N to ship the Music Room. I guess pre-orders to them means "get it after everyone else. Thanks for the money though!"

Basically, yes.

I do hope they manage to get my plastic cases delivered safe.

I'm very lucky. My copy of The Night of the Hunter was only a little squished. My copy of Pierrot Le Fou came in a cardboard envelope in perfect condition. I haven't watched it yet. I'll watch it tonight.

If it makes you feel any better mine shipped this morning.

I can't wait to laminate the packing slip. I don't know if I'll watch the movie, maybe just the special features.

Does Criterion.com offer free shipping?

octagon, I am also from Chicago and just picked up an Insignia DVD2 from Best Buy for the built in wifi for netflix for the bedroom. It also is region-free. I just put in the hack for region-free and it works fine. (I already have an LG BH200 for region-free on my main theater room) I got a floor model for $60 from a north side location. I saw in their computer that more local stores have them in boxes for $99. Some stores had other floor models too. The DVD4 is also region-free too with the same code. Those are harder to find, but are $79 new in the box. The computer said there were 20+ at the stores in Schaumburg and Skokie if you are going that way. Hope this helps...

BTW CG, my 2 releases have not yet shipped from B&N yet. I threw on the Keaton shorts due to the 15% off coupon since the 10% does not work anymore. Their site says they are ready for shipping, but no confirmation yet, so you are not alone in the waiting game.

I hope my order's ok I had it shipped to a buddy of mine in CA but he's busy moving and going to SDCC so he havnt been able to check if B&N got everything right and how many, if any, of the cases are broken.

Do what I'm doing and get a copy out from your local public library to watch the extras. Besides, that way you don't have to wipe the french fry grease off your fingers as you thumb through the booklet!
I am functionally illiterate, so I never bother with the booklets anyway. One thing I do like to do is to leave the menu screen open on my tv for hours at a time. I often find the movies themselves to be too distracting when I'm watching UFC on my laptop.

I just don't see why Criterion can't cut out the middle man and do a 50% off sale on the Criterion.com site. Everyone knows about the B&N sale, so it isn't like they get alot of suckers who will pay the $30 prices still on their site while the sale is going on (maybe they do). Shipping will be so simple ordering with Criterion.

Because they will still charge a premium premium for shipping to Canada and really, no one wants to see that.

Great news on the possibility of Belle de Jour . Not exactly my most anticipated Bunuel release but something is better than nothing. Here I am wish Viridiana will see an upgrade sometime soon. I also wish and pray for Criterion to adquire the rights for Los Olvidados, in my opinion, Bunuel's masterpiece.

No argument on either count. The tracking shot gets a lot of attention - and deservedly so - but it's a very good looking film overall and some of bar interiors are really nice.
