I run a trailer restoration channel. I could make that happen for sure. I just would need a copy of the trailer in the best quality available (for the few shots that are exclusive to it; I’d likely upscale them with topaz, etc). But it’s absolutely doable.

Nice! I love those trailer restoration channels and I'm always on the lookout for another one.

Can you share your channel info? Either here or PM? Thanks!

Plus, I do appreciate seeing the extra costume and set details. Just from a fan's perspective, getting to absorb more of what was shot. Shall I share my scans of these, along with the cropped Widescreen comparisons? Pretty interesting if you're interested in this

I've also got a few scans of my 70mm frames from the film, along with my frame scans of a 35mm release print. Happy to share a few here to as I recall a discussion about aspect ratios here a few pages back.
Why not, post them comparisons, let's have fun.

Seems a lot of negative reviews on the picture quality on this before it’s even released. I’m still in the fence of getting this but most likely will.

Me too.... I tried searching for posts and I see Riddhi comparing the Titanic UHD to T2 UHD and, well... that seems pretty out there so I can sure see that starting one of those long back-and-forths. If whatever caused the bans happened in this thread, I'm guessing posts were deleted?

I haven't read every post in this thread, so I'm not sure how much controversy there is pre-release about this one or if someone actually watched it and decided it's bad.

But, if this is a T2 level botch-job, I really don't know what I'm looking at. If it's a DNR-fest that was artificially sharpened with a layer of artificial grain, they definitely did enough magic to fool me into thinking it looks good. The only real negative I had was it seems like the UHD isn't doing the 90s CG any favors or I've just become more sensitive to it since that last 3D viewing.
Some of these VFX shots sure do not seem to hold up and I don't remember really being this distracted by them before.

Starmike and Riddhi were arguing about gate weave. Riddhi was saying that he actually likes some gate weave in his movies, as a fully static shot looks lifeless. Starmike was saying that gate weave is a defect that literally no one wants, a malfunctioning projector. They both got at each other's throats.

I don't know if you usually use existing audio, or recreate it, but if you recreate it, these are the music cues:

1) Pax Deorum - Enya - over the opening footage of the wreck - on her greatest hits album The Very Best of Enya, also on her album The Memory of Trees

2) I think there's a bit of John Williams's score for Far and Away as Old Rose calls Bill Paxton and then rides the helicopter to the research ship

3) Book of Days - Enya - first half of the trailer, up to the kiss on the bow at sunset. Be careful, though. The trailer uses the English language version of the song. Enya originally recorded this song for her album Shepherd Moons in 1991, but it was in Gaelic. She re-recorded it in 1992 for the movie Far & Away in English and she liked that version so much that she put it on all post-1991 pressings of Shepherd Moons in place of the original Gaelic version. Safest way to be sure you get the English version is to get the Far & Away soundtrack album, which you'll need above, or The Very Best of Enya, which you'll also need above.

4) Courage Under Fire soundtrack album - all the score in the second half of the trailer is from that CD. I think most of it is from the cue "Al Bathra/Main Title"

All that said, I think the ShoWest trailer uses original production audio for a number of the dialogue lines (since the trailer was put together during filming), while the audio for those lines in the actual film is ADR. So it might be safer to use the original audio track.

Some of the romanticism of various imperfections and outright flaws of celluloid based movie exhibition is quite perplexing.

Advocating for retention of such things is rather odd.

I'm not a fan of losing long-time members personally. On the other hand, when the member in question just antagonizes people and brings the site down, then is the member actually contributing? But I do find it troubling to see members just banned, temporary or not, when a warning may have done the trick just as well.

Nostalgia is powerful. Some of it I get, some I don't. But I admit I have a lot of nostalgia for a lot of things. I also love seeing old films and shows looking the best they can. For some I think those two things can cause collision issues.

The official story is that she turned the film down with the ever-popular reason of "scheduling conflicts," but someone involved in the film told me years ago that she actually turned the film down because she was offended that Cameron used "Book of Days" in that first trailer without asking her. I suspect they really shouldn't have included the ShoWest trailer on that DVD set, and I suspect that's why it's not in the trailer gallery on the BD.

In the end, they found the talented Sissel, who sounds just like Enya, to perform vocals on the score, but I would have loved to have seen what Enya would have done as a composer. I'm sure they would still have had to pair her with someone experienced at film scoring, like Horner, but the combination could have been amazing.

Much as I love Horner's solo score, I think of Tron: Legacy, where Daft Punk was paired with Joe Trapanese, and how amazing and singular that was.
Would have been interesting to have Enya scored Titanic.. but in the end, it was her lost.. it became the biggest movie of all time, and won best score and best song.

Btw, if Enya scored Titanic, we might not have one of the most popular movie song My Heart Will Go On.

Cameron didn't even considered a song for the movie, once James Horner finished the score.
He felt it would've been a cheesy-poppy thing to do, for a movie about a real tragedy (like if Taylor Swift, Jay-Z or 50 Cent would've made a song for Schindler's List, LOL)
It was him, Horner, that recorded a demo and that he had sent to Celine Dion (or so I remember) for her to record her vocals, and it was Horner who was so proud at first with the results.

However, convincing Cameron wasn't an easy task, at first.
He sat down and talked with Cameron, said that he had something interesting for him, and then he proceeded to make him listen to the demo (which is the Soundtrack Version of the song that plays at the end of the movie, nonetheless).
He didn't liked it at first, but then he recognized Celine Dion's voice (who was still not very popular outside of Canada and France, at the time) and said that it was fantastic.

The rest, as we all know, it's history.
Actually it was Sissel who was going to sing the song, before James Horner decided to bring in Celine Dion.

A little easter egg: during the Celine Dion song, at the end of the movie, if you actually turn off your front LCR+side+overhead+height speakers, and only keep the surround speakers on, if you turn the volume up, you can actually hear James Horner's instrumental orchestral rendition, which is buried in the mix on the CD.

Speaking of music cues, where did the music cue in this teaser come from?

Keep checking Coming Soon or who knows it must turn up 4K DV DA just like that or might never if Disney wants to boost disc sales prior to letting it stream on D+.

I tend to use the original audio unless no stereo version is available. If audio is only available in mono I tend to recreate it to at least make it stereo.
