I would love to hear the Veritas on an Naim amp that would be pleasent to the ear, I think. :d
I concur. Future Shop has got to be the worst listening environment out there for demo-ing speakers, (wired out of phase, too close or too far apart, tweeters dented in.) at least the stores that Ive seen. I would prefer to take a set home and demo them here and return them if I dont like them. You have 30 days anyways. The only recievers that they have that might be reasonable to demo is higher end Denon, or Pioneer elite but I havent looked at what they have recently. Nothing quite equals a Naim though from what I've read here.

Your 989 is a serious receiver but a Naim IA should just make the veritas justice.

You buy go try them at a Naim dealer and then return them if you don't like them but I think the new veritas will be something really nice.

Yup I thaught so too and did not even looked up where that might be but yeah I have a Bryston dealer close to my place and it's the same.

When you do audition, don't be fooled by the Speaker size they sound big. Hell try the tiny Arro and you'll won't belive your ears I swear

That reminded me about a guy i know from another buddy that is a dealer for Harbeth speakers. I heard his 2 channel set-up last year and it had to be the finest sound quality i'd ever heard. He a had a blue circle brand tube amp connected to his harbeths. so warm sounding. It was a real sonic treat to listen to his setup. He sells harbeth out of his basement.

from all that I have read Harbeths are great speakers, esp for monitors. However I wonder how they would stack up to say the devore fidelitys or the ProArcs. After you hear the Totems check out the Dyns....

Im sorry, but didn't your review state you thought the Dyns were a little better??? Either way, they are great speakers, but I think the Dyns are dead on neutral and the Totems offer a little colouration.

So when Are you buying the Dyns? Just said the X32 had the edge over the Sttaf but also prices 900$ more. Now the 2600$ Model One sound better to my ears than the 2800$ X32 if that makes any sense.

More bottom end by the X32 but all in all blown away tonight by the Model 1

Focus 140 may outperform the Model One Sig by a small margin. I have yet to hear the Focus.

Okay, it's time for a new receiver. A lightning storm took out my Sony STR-DG820 (tonight). It turns on and "appears" to work but no sound comes from the speakers. Also the HDMI video pass-thru is no longer working. Hopefully APC come through with their equipment protection policy and reimburse me as it was properly attached to my H10. However since I can't wait all that time I am looking to power my RC's with a Marantz.

I am looking at the slimline NR1501. As before I have space constraints and this would be a perfect fit. I am curious as to whether or not I will have issues with powering the speakers? I know Energy's are very efficient but I wanted to see what you guys have to say.

The Sony I had claimed 110W per channel but I know that their numbers are highly inflated. The Marantz is only 50W but I feel I can take that as a true rating. I never play anything insanely loud (only 36-40 out of 75 on the Sony) so I was hoping I could finally get the wonderful sound of Marantz in a size and price I am happy with.

what are your space constraints... If I were you, I would be looking at the 5003 on accessories4less.com, reason is that the 1501 and 1601 are very limited in what they offer. The 5003 is 15 1/8" deep, and the 1501 is 14 1/2" deep, that is not much difference... I do know that the 820 is less then 14"... but I would think long and hard about the 5003

Yeah, which look pretty dang good. The Black Ash RC finish, for my tastes, doesn't match up compared to the Chery and Rosenut (Rosewood, forgot which one).

I figured that recommendation would be coming

I was looking at that receiver as well. The situation I have is that a normal receiver would have to be around 12"-13" max to go where my old receiver was (see gallery). But with this slimline I am able to place it where my PS3 currently sits and accomodates easily for 20" of depth but the height is 5". My wife is obviously leaning towards the slim for asthetics and it really would do everything I need it to. I realize the lack of pre-outs can possibly be an issue down the road but I live in a small 1 bedroom apt and I don't anticipate that changing for a couple years.

Price wise the NR1501 is $320 at accessories4less and the 5003 is $380, so only a $60 difference does make it hard to resist going bigger. I think I'm going to have to read some NR1501 specific forums and see what the consensus is on it.

Default break in?

Is it just me or did I miss something? I just went through the owners manual on-line for the new veritas and didn't see anything in there about 100 hr break-in like was stated in my RC-s manuals as being VITAL to do.

note: Harbeth speakers do not recommend a break in at all. They feel that is a mfr's ploy to get you used to the sound so you don't return them.

Those price range found here really shows me that it really look like a new and improve Old RC.

http://www.beststuff.com/blog/2010/0...-speakers.html

I mean thi is not a true Veritas IMHO. Imsure they will sound better than the old RC but I was kind of hoping for more.

I know that klipsch engineers can manufacture some great speakers, look at the Palladiums they make... however from what I was told about the process of speaker design and mfg, it doesn't sound like the old Energy engineers had full control. Im sure these will be better speakers then the RCs, I'd be currious if they stay neutral and laidback or if they are forward like klipsch speakers?

I guess it goes without saying, but I will certianly be buying Dyns now.

thanks for the post Oliver.

I must admit looking at them on the link above and the energy site they don't really look like a complete different speaker compared to the RC's to me. On the veritas surround speaker the only difference I can see from mine are the gloss black finish and the triangular plate between tweeter and woofer. As callas said maybe there is some newer dampening material inside and perhaps other improvements inside that we don't know of yet. time will tell

So it from the price ranges they just improved the current RC line and made it the new veritas really that's the botom line I think.

Yeah Steve I was pretty much going Totem from now on, Made at home , I really wanted to hear the X16 bud yo know the story already. Either way I believe I got one of the best bang for the buck that Rainmaker is extremely well regarded so ar all the Dyns.

Yeah I have seen those 25 000$ Palladium and did not even bother auditioning them. That's when I heard the Ikons.

As I said, I am sure they are better speakers, better transients, less colouration, more revealing, I just hope they stayed true to what is Energy in that they have wide dispersion, excellent soundstage and imaging, and of course balanced thru and thru.
