the disc player is still the best way and will remain that way for the near term. But the disc and redeem the stream is my method

I watched the 2009 and then the original later in the day.

I have the horrible anaglyph disc you watched ... and a few other anaglyph discs. Frame packed is definitely much nicer.

I once used a software to turn the frame packed Jaws 3 Blu Ray into anaglyph because I had a pool movie and a box of paper glasses was easy to get for the pool party.

I don't even remember the name of that software but I think it was like $50.

Physical media is declining because people are losing interest in buying movies not because they have a problem with discs specifically. A new form of physical media would do absolutely nothing to increase demand.

I personally would have no problem with a new form of physical media as long as it was an improvement, but USB flash drives are far inferior to discs. I buy discs because they have a very long shelf-life; a new form of physical media would have to at least match that for me to consider them.

People are buying less content as it is; giving them another way to buy it will not change their minds about making purchases unless the new format offers some amazing improvement above and beyond what streaming can deliver to them already.

Personally I think the only thing that would make lots of people buy a new format is if it was the cheapest option.

I think there's a TON of supply side problems right now in a lot of products.

I also think that during lockdown people bought big TVs and other nice home theatre related stuff.

Most of them seem to not care about audio at all so I can't make any predictions about what they will do regarding quality playback...

Also, some people never watch content twice.... I don't understand those people but it takes all kinds.

These just arrived in the mail so I think I'll watch some physical media instead of just discussing it.

According to Pew Research, 77% of Americans enjoy broadband internet now and that number is increasing.

https://www.pewresearch.org/internet...net-broadband/

From the FCC:

"The Report chronicles major strides...Expansion of networks technically capable of 100 megabit-plus speeds to over 80 percent of the population through cable’s DOCSIS 3.0 rollout."

"The Report finds that approximately 19 million Americans—6 percent of the population—still lack access to fixed broadband service at threshold speeds. "

https://www.fcc.gov/reports-research...rogress-report

Thus, 94% of the nation's population has access to broadband internet service, but for a variety of reasons they do not all avail themselves of it. Most of us can stream at all levels if we want to and SVOD's numbers more than show that this is exactly how most people want to access content.

People paying extra for faster internet just to watch movies is kind of sad.

Probably so. I would wager that most SVOD customers care more about bang for the buck than they ever will about candy for the eye (and ears).

They don't just do it for SVOD; there are online video games to be played and many households have multiple viewers and players competing for bandwidth.

Just a FYI, but your not seeing new AVRs, players, and pretty much everything outside new TVs lately. Covid 19 has really did a number on this whole home theater components industry.

They got bought out, then their factories closed down, were almost insolvent, presently your lucky to find some cheap AVRs from them, that's it, they are pretty much gone as a vendor.

Look with all that has been going on, I certainly don't want to start a big thing and it has got to that.

We just don't see eye to eye and I think you are way off base. I stated my view and it is what it is. If anyone wants to actually dive into my expression, my words stand as they are and they should be respected in the original way they were intended not a half assed regurgitation with key omissions.

Lets end this now, because I would rather post a while longer. You go your way, I go mine, and by all means have last word.

BTW just finished Devonsville Terror. Watched as the last of Ulli Lommel Trilogy on bluray (Boogeyman and Olivia being the other 2). I find Suzanna Love to be pretty sexy and I got a kick out of all 3 movies. Right up my alley for some mindless entertainment.

*Edited for peace. Words the same just some omitted.

Three new legitimate UHD BD models announced in 2021. Some not so legitimate models also available. Markets reach saturation and sales decline, happens for many products. Same for streamers, nothing new from Nvidia, Apple and Roku just updated existing designs.

I got heated I am sorry too. Typing on a board is bound to have misunderstanding.

On a side note, I just got done watching A Short Film About Love. I teeter back and forth between it and the Dekalog version. Both have their positives.

I grasp the ending with how I interpret it but I struggle.

I get all messed up in the head like I do with Malena. Fantastic stuff.

I got an early screener of Hitman Bodyguard's Wife on 4K disc. I've heard awful things about it and I liked the first film.

You don’t need much bandwidth to play online. I managed fine on 2Mbps for years before I got fibre. It was pretty smooth with good ping. That’s the case even now for some folk, it’s quite a low requirement. The only real benefit to fibre for gaming is game downloads and updates which are obviously much faster.

I was grandfathered in with a lower bandwidth but great rate. I was talked into faster and it will be lower for 2 years then it will spike up in price. I was so suckered because it literally looks no different.

When people say that you need faster internet to enjoy the benefits bolgna. The only benefit is that it gets to high quality a hair faster. Generally the lowest bandwidth is far faster than what you need for the lower than UHD bluray requirements.

I knew but I was bedazzled by a sales pitch. Gaming is only benefit and I would rather play old school arcade games anyway.

I’m only speaking for gaming mate, there is a definite improve that with video (streaming) because many of the streaming services, catch up etc..give you the best quality for your bandwidth. For example, Apple TV and Disney+ look way crisper and closer to Blu-Ray quality and the 4K is very decent.

It’s only services like Netflix and Amazon who really squeeze the bit rates where you can get 4K and HD with say, 10-15 Mbps. They don’t look nearly as good as Apple and Disney streams.

Of course, none of them can hold a match to 4K disc.
