Fast food quality is always going to deliver first. Nothing to be concerned about. Tis the mindset of a renter that has to have it now.
Of course we all know what happens when you eat too fast. It rarely digests well. |

No, why should it? People who collect physical will wait. People who buy digital will get it earlier. I'm sure it may bleed some sales from physical but I don't think it will drastically alter spending habits. Most people that prefer physical will wait the extra time. It's not that big of a deal for most people.

There are two reasons: 1) To try to make up for lost revenue from theatrical and 2) to entice people to buy digital so they have more control over their content. It is no secret that corporations want people to "purchase" digital so they can control access to their properties. Which is why they try to entice the customers (i.e., suckers) by releasing digital early. Those of us who are patient (i.e., smarter than the corporations) know it is worth the wait for physical.

They like digital as the margins are better and it’s just more popular and profitable right now. They don’t give a f**k about controlling your media |

But I will stick with my physical purchases that I actually have control over and am not dependent on a prrovider/internet to view my "purchased content". I have no problem whatsoever waiting for the physical release. All good things to those who wait. |

Well - that definitely sounds more like a good business decision. But no one seems to care about Physical being treated as the red-headed stepchild. I guess they are just thankful they are getting PM releases in some time frame: 2 months 3 months, 4 months . . . we'll wait.

I guess we could be viewed that way but there is a tangible benefit to upgrading most of the time. I have no problem purchasing a movie again if I get better quality and/or features not available on earlier releases. If that makes me a sucker then so be it. But at least if I choose I can sell or donate my previous copy. Good luck with that on digital.

I guess I shouldn't have said "suckers" for those that buy digital. I didn't set out to insult anyone when I started the post but ended up doing so. That's my bad. I understand some people prefer the convenience, I just have a strong aversion to EST.

With the 4K Criterion disc releases coming November keep in mind that November is also one of those 50% off months, so we may not be paying as much for them. I know there's some folks in the main threads falling apart looking at MSRPs.

It's a good sign for physical media. If EST was performing as well as the studios hoped they wouldn't have to entice people to buy it over physical media by giving it a head start.

When it comes to physical I have "waited" my whole life. Well not actually. I was always watching something else I bought. Only now in all my years of collecting have I truly bought so much that I literally can't keep up. Anymore I just enjoy the heck out of stellar upgrades. Watching True Romance in 4K still brings a big toothy smile to my face. A Clock Orange, Citizen Kane, For a Few Dollars More, The Red Shoes...it just can't get any better but it will! |

The difference in that case is they were UPGRADES. The suckers are people switching from disc as they have poorer quality and don’t really own their content. It’s just a kool aid thing, some are gullible while others stick to their guns.

Yes, I've seen that as well. But as someone pointed out the UHD's will only be about $5 more during the sales throughout the year. $5 for a UHD upgrade is very reasonable in my opinion.

If it's a movie I love, I don't mind buying it again and supporting the rights holder. Plus as I mentioned, many times the upgrades include new special features. The new UHD of Citizen Kane from Criterion is stacked with new features. I always watch the special features included with my discs and they are an important part of why I love physical media. I only mark a disc "Watched" on this site once I've finished the bonus features as well. Bonus features are hit or miss on digital (mostly miss as in they are not there), so that is another reason I won't support EST. |
