I opted for the 3D version of San Andreas, I enjoyed the 3D and film. Just bought Skyscraper 3D, haven’t watched yet.

I think most of us debating here could be in the category.

I don't quite understand this statement but I consider metroplexes after drive-ins, and since you mention Star Wars drive-ins obviously preceded that. The grand theaters I feel outlived the drive-ins (for the most part) but even then the metroplexes took hold concurrently. I consider both to be almost even deaths with the "grand" edging it out.

Still luxery theaters and drive ins both exist so my vote goes with luxery lasted longer...sorta.

You can't know this to be true. In my household it was the same with my laserdisc player. Then again my wife wasn't made to wait. She was a movie buff same as my wife now who never knew laserdiscs. Wife number one went from laserdisc, from her love of vhs to DVD. So she heard the FM mod and knew the CAV edition over CLV right up to using two amps to have the 6 channel EX using to separate amplifiers for Phantom Menace using an old pro logic amp for back channel (I am sure you know what I mean) with DVD.

I too had a projector but not as flashy. I never appreciated the projected the same because how displays were changing. I loved my LD collection which was nuts, but I also knew the changing storm. It stung but upgrading was always my importance and still is.

Which is why I can't understand settling for a downgrade if one has been in the "game" so long.

I love LD artwork but bluray artwork is fantastic as well. I love LD but man were they annoying with side changes and wonky extras. Even on my Pioneer 503 a long movie still sucked. Laser rot still crept in and you still had occassional playback issues. A quick clean would do it...but not always.

I too loved the widescreen and it was pitiful how VHS tried to compete, but facts are facts, the resolution wasn't there.

What is there is original artist intent and that is why I often prefer LD.

The one thing I agree with. With all your war stories which many of us share, there is one constant. We don't really mind waiting. We just spend elsewhere. A smart studio will notice money going in a specific direction more. Not scared one bit.

You don't pick optimum quality that is on you.

Streaming is less quality lighter alternative. There is really no argument.

You jumped out of physical game. I can't imagine it, but I respect your priorities because I don't pay your bills.
Agreed. Being a life long film fan is just a given here, not a qualification!

Same here. 3D with Atmos if at all possible. If I don't remux I at least play two bluray players at the same time. My PS3 is handy that way since it uses a bluetooth remote and doesn't interfere with player 2 providing the sound. Sucks for breaks though. Resyncing is not always easy but lately have become somewhat of a pro. Remuxing Gravity is a dream though. It is perfect and 4K of it other than the last shot 65 mm holds nothing special for me. One day I will edit that in if it ever comes to 4K. Or hell just switch to 4K player at the exact moment. Lol

How about a "pick and choose" streaming service with content from all the streaming services (maybe a minutes/day payment option to limit the cost)?

Yikes, reading back my post on a computer makes me realize the folly of dictating a post into your phone LOL..

Of course we're all lifelong fans. The point that was lost in my stream of consciousness is that depending on our age, we've all seen different things come and go. I wasn't trying to give an overall history of how media was consumed but rather my historical experience.

While drive-ins indeed predated multiplexes, they weren't a reality for me until I got my license at 16. The year I got my first car and left home. Multiplexes unfortunately, started eating into the grand movie houses here in Toronto in the early 80's.

Somewhere in my rambling post I gave the impression that I "had jumped out of the physical game". Nothing could be further from the truth. Movies that I love and watch multiple times (like those mentioned in my post) will be purchased on UHD and 8K and 16K....but gone are the days where I pre-ordered everything or made my weekly pilgrimage to the brick and mortar stores to pick up the weekly loss leader.

The point I was trying to make was, that as a guy who used to have to wait LONGER than most for the LD edition of a title to come out, I love the ability to watch a movie at home day and date with theatrical presentation (or shortly thereafter). The quality of these streaming presentations far exceeds that which I used to wait for on LD, even if less than physical UHD.

My family screened my UHD copy of A QUIET PLACE the night before watching the stream of it's sequel at home (while still in theaters). While I will pickup the UHD at some point, I have to tell you that none of us felt cheated with the 4K presentation...and the SOUND WAS AMAZING..with plenty of overhead ATMOS effects and plenty of thump from my 4 subs and tactile transducers attached to my cinema chairs.

I'm sure someone will pick apart my mediocre equipment as to why I was so easily pleased with such a technically inferior presentation.

...as far as aggression in my post, I'm just a curmudgonly old bastard shaking my fist and telling you to get off my lawn...

OT Post

A double first cousin of mine has passed away from CV-19. He refused to get vaccinated for same no matter how much evidence I and other family members provided showing the benefits of vaccination. IMO he confused politics, religion and science and ignored the simple fact that CV-19 is real, a killer and there is vaccines for it.

I hope all readers here have the good sense to have been vaccinated or do it soon.

Sorry to hear that. I have many in my family refusing to get vaccinated as well. Myself, my wife and my son are all fully vaccinated.

Sorry for your loss Breland.
I hope you don't get banned for a week like I was for suggesting that there was a correlation between vaccine hesitancy and increased mortality.

Could be several reasons for that, what is your eyesight? Is noise reduction on? Is frame interpolation on? What is the ambient light levels on your screen? And it could be the artifacts are there but you just do see them. Have told you before I have tried to point out video aberrations to viewers and MOST just do not see them. Look how long it took Apple to correct integer frame rate issues. It appears Nvidia may never provide original frame rates.

That's great that you guys love Discs, but you shouldn't put Streaming Digital down because it doesn't look good on your setup and equipment. That's why I say it's Subjective, everyone has to decide for themselves the Quality of their Movie and TV Show needs!
Millions watch and listen to inferior quality. SiriusXM is a good example, road noise is not enough to mask how bad it sounds in an auto but they have millions of subs.

We sub to Pandora (paid) but it is used at low levels for back ground music. The paid version is supposed to have higher bit rates but it is not enough for serious listening.

This site and others have strict rules regarding post about politics and I understand that. That is why I tried to avoid any political view and post a simple fact that CV-19 kills and there is a vaccine for it. I used the word readers which includes disc lovers, streaming lovers or none of the above.

Just pre-ordered the 4K Steelbook of The Howling from Zavi.

I watched True Romance 4K disc yesterday and it was such a treat. The DV looked stellar.

There was a 40GB patch 1.30 yesterday for Cyberpunk 2077 -- I started replaying it again and it's smooth as hell on my PS5. I went with Street Kid origin. Months ago on my first playthrough I went in as CORPO, which was fun. I always wanted to see how the other side lived.

Data: 60% of Connected-TV Households Stream Ad-Supported Content

Quote:
Consumer interest in free ad-supported VOD (AVOD) content and live television (FAST) continues to proliferate. New data from The Diffusion Group suggests 60% of connected-TV households stream ad-supported content across myriad platforms — spearheaded by YouTube.

AVOD and FAST services driving the market include ViacomCBS’s Pluto TV, Fox Entertainment’s Tubi, Comcast-owned Xumo and Amazon’s IMDb TV, among others.

TDG found that 24% of connected-TV households consume ad-supported streaming content on a daily basis, while 32% stream weekly. Among AVOD/FAST consumers, 76% stream YouTube, the longest-running streaming video platform, followed by Pluto TV, Tubi and Xumo.

“Clearly the effects of work-from-home and lack of traditional leisure options during the pandemic accelerated consumer use of free ad-supported streaming services,” Doug Montgomery, senior analyst and author of Back to the Future: The Rise of Ad-Supported Streaming Video, said in a statement. “Most major video providers have been preparing for this moment for years and thus able to quickly adapt to an accelerated timeline. It is a unique moment in the history of the entertainment business and those who move quickly and boldly will likely reap the benefits for years to come.”

I still need to get Cyberpunk for my PC. I was hoping to upgrade my graphics card first but it looks like that won't happen for a long, long time.
