If the new set has the same discs as the previous then I will get the new on. In general I have always preferred digipacks but more and more I'm content with amarays inside a slip

I don't have time to read 166 pages so I have to ask; does anyone have any idea if the original theatrical cuts will ever be available on blu? I mean, the cuts with no cgi tampering, line replacement, etc..and I do mean the original first 3 star wars, empire strikes back and jedi. Basically, will we ever get the only truly great Star Wars films on blu ray as we remember them theatrically?

I know it's a lot to ask. I mean, with all the hoopla about the inferior "prequels" and new CGI butcherings of the originals but uh, you know, what the hell, I have to ask lol

We don't know. No one knows, except Disney and Fox. All we have are rumours.

There's more chance of seeing them now than there was before Lucas sold up, at least

Well, I hope they make it onto blu. Lucas reminds me of a legend in his time who ended up wearing vision street wear baggy parachute pants cuz they were cool for a few years. Like the cgi was cool for a few years...kind of embarrassing we can't have the originals on BD. We've come so far, there's really no excuse at this point. Here's to the future, though.

There's no confirmed date, or even official confirmation that they're coming, but I have no doubt they will eventually. A lot of people speculate the 40th anniversary could be it, and it'd make sense to release them then. We'll see. If 2017 comes and goes with not so much as a word on the UOT being released, then it'll be time to worry.

Yeah I imagine Amazon will run out again soon, and it will go back to silly money prices. But I wouldn't really see it as a huge loss, considering the UK only got the plastic digistak packaging, rather than what the US got;
[Show spoiler]

Although granted the pages from that were included in UK set in a booklet.

That's my hope, fingers crossed the smell of money brings all the players to the table and they make it happen.

Dude those asshats have all the money in the world, there's no such thing as "too expensive". That's absurd. Until they release the proper Star Wars original trilogy, they won't see one red cent from me. Not to come off like a snob, but really...(whips nose into air and makes loud and sharp snort/hack sound)

I'm sorry, not trying to be negative, just horsing around. No one is an asshat. That's mean. I just don't appreciate some of the studio motivations.

Also another excuse for Lucas, lets be honest. "It's too expensive", translated to, these are what I'm releasing and you can like it or lump it.
But the idea of it being too expensive for Disney, yeah, this comes to mind;
[Show spoiler]
It's so expensive...

As was his right (however much many of us disagreed with his decision). But now it's up to Disney, unless Lucas made a secret clause preventing it when he sold the company, but I doubt it. I have little doubt some kind of theatrical original trilogy re-release will happen at some point, it's just a question of 'when' in my opinion, not 'if'.

Too expensive to restore Star Wars, and yet The Honeymoon Killers gets a 4K restoration, because the latter is a licence to print money but no one will buy the former.

Yeah, right.

Too expensive to restore as in scanning all the negatives in 4k and doing all the CGI garbage from scratch. Again. Then adding truckloads more. The fans don't want that though do they! We just want the original cuts and effects, visible garbage mattes and all, with new scans. Restored, not "remastered"!

I've finally picked this up on Blu-ray though with the new reissue. I like the cool cover and no-nonsense packaging. The SEs were exciting to see in the cinema in the mid-90s as I'm too young to have seen them originally on anything but TV but Lucas' endless tinkering made me come to dislike the series quite a bit as the ones we grew up with were suppressed and he wasn't even happy to leave the 1990s SEs alone, keeping changing those and even episodes I and II. It's insanity that the only one that hasn't been buggered about with on BD is Revenge of the Sith. I really want to see the original trilogy again though, haven't seen them for well over a decade and want me some Peter Cushing in carpet slippers. Performances from before CGI took over the series.

Here in Portugal the guy working at our movie store said this new 9-DVD BluRay version has, probably, more special features than the last one. Is it true? Can anyone confirm that?
