Callas, do you know if they use the same tweeter that is in the RC series? I know the RC series used the same tweeter that the older Veritas line used, I'm curious if Energy has stuck with it.
I would believe it is the same tweeter, but the motor is different from what I gather so far. Perhaps a well informed dealer would know more. Maybe even check AVS forum. Energy uses the same tweeter for a while on all their speakers that I know of, however the higher end lines always had higher end circuitry and motors and some had ferro-fluid and different things.

One thing I read, which makes me wonder, but I think that they may have a different sound to the speakers. When the Audioholics article said different voice... it had me wondering....

I was originally going to go with a pair of RC mini's and an RC mini center. Now I am thinking about just buying 3 RC mini center's and either wall mounting them or putting them on stands. I read on Energy's website that the RC mini center can actually be used as an LCR speaker. Would I be better off doing this? Would I get more sound out of the 3 centers versus just 2 mini's and a mini center? Ideally I would probably have to wall mount the center's because they might be to tall standing up vertically. Money isn't an issue as the bookshelf and center mini's are close in price. If there won't be that much of a difference, I will just order a pair of bookshelfs and a center. Thank in advance!
Id personally go with the 3 RC-Mini Centers over the bookshelfs.

A couple of questions for all you guys.

1. what exactly is meant by the term "usable bass response"= 33hz? ( as in the case of the RC-30s)

2. Do any of you use an isolation platform for your sub(s) and do they make a huge difference? and if so, would a large piece of ceramic tile elevated slightly work?

thanks in advance!!

Default Took back the RC-R's

Thought I'd drop a quick update... after all my praising and loving of the RC-R's, I have decided to return them. Just couldn't get the configuration of our space to justify them. I did not want to have 7.1 just to say I have 7.1.

They sounded fantastic, but back to FS they go.

Although, if they put them out as "Open Box" with an even-greater reduced price.... I may be back to pick them up

Matt

So what are you gonna go with now? were the rc's to large to fit where you wanted to mount them?

mine are slightly over sized for my room (family room) but i'm not planning on staying in this house forever. One day I will have a dedicated HT room that will suite the rc's just fine.

I am goign to keep my existing 5.1 with the C-200's in the back. I too do not plan on staying in our current house forever, but I also see an upgrade 3-5 years down the down, and do not want the RC-R's sitting on a shelf when they could be rockin someones HT.

I too will one day have a more dedicated HT where I can have a more suitable 7.1 setup.

Matt, now is your chance bud, CR-10 are 130$ off so 299$ for the pair I have seen them once at 249 but that was exceptional and you are prtected for a month so if price drops you go there and they reimburse the difference or you can always return them if you don't like em.

Hey there Oliver, I haven't been on in a while, but I see you got your Totems. How do they compare to your old Energy's, like night and day eh? They look great.
I'm sure Steve is

I think Steve would agree that this grade of Bookshelves outperforms the C-Series in terms of Dispersion, imaging, details, dynamic range, speed and accuracy. Only thing they are less efficient that the C-500 for sure and don't extend as low altho they go lower than your RC-10, 42hz at +/-3db.

They are neutral so brighter than your warm sounding RC-10 but the Arcam IA and the Beaks from Totem will tone them down more than what the HK can do although the HK is nice and warm sounding. BTW the RC-10 outperforms the C-200 and possibly the 300 in most departments.

My 2 channel listening has increased dramatically since the purchase of the Rainmakers and I can tell you after selling my C-100, C-500 and C-C100 I run a 4.1 with a virtual center setup until the 21 of October.

Bookshelfs that list at $1600. They will outperform most towers at $2000, maybe not in the low-end bass, but in tone, detail, depth, imaging, sound stage, Mid-range accuracy and neutrality..... I think once Oliver and I are done, we will both have one of the best Bookshelf setups on this site, Hamp and Beta Man will be up there to that come to mind.

that links you to what I am looking at.

I've never heard anything from the older C-series, but I have put the RC-10 and the CF-70 together head-to-head (same room, equipment, etc). The RC-10 came out on top (with the exception of low end of course), so I feel confident in saying the RC-10 would outperform the C-300.
