i came here to briefly mention Han Gong-Ju and it's the first thing i see mentioned lol

anyway: brutal. depicts a deep kind of heartlessness--one that's universal but we avoid picking at--that's still on my mind a week after watching it. couple scenes leave you reeling.

I saw Fish Story 2 nights ago and man, what an experience it was. Why have I never seen this movie before? I know there's a DVD, but I'm glad that TWF decided to release it on blu-ray (PQ is excellent). Really great special features too.

This immediately shot to the nummer 3 spot of favourite TWF releases (For Love's Sake and Memories of Matsuko being the top ones). The showing of and switches between the different periods were excellent and that ending.....like you've had a very good meal and then they bring an even tastier dessert. And very important: the song is great.

So good.

I've just return from Fopp (Covent Garden) & whilst I was there I noticed there were about 4-6 copies of the Limited Edition of this next to a standard edition of the film. Anyone who might want a LE copy should get one ASAP.

There's one notable exception.

The Foreign Duck, the Native Duck and God in a Coin Locker by the same director is also great (I might even prefer it to Fish Story), although it's DVD only so far. I also have his third TWF release - See You Tomorrow, Everyone - on the way, so we'll see how that goes, but I'm expecting good things.

Anyway, what about (mainland) Chinese films? I presume that they wouldn't be big sellers in most cases? Which is a shame, because I've been enjoying Chinese cinema a lot lately (the latest example being Angels Wear White, I'm glad that I caught that on TV the other night).

I expect it would be down to elements but also the whims of the CCP. Or if anything is still tied up with Cine Asia.

I just watched the TW blu-ray yesterday and came here to post how amazed I was at this film, and saw your post. Yes, what a wonderful movie, and I love your analogy regarding the ending; I was expecting credits and instead....

It was a complete blind buy for me; a friend was doing a big Arrow sale order and he's always kind enough to let me add something to his orders and ride on his shipping. I've been slowly adding to my TW collection, as I've enjoyed everything I picked up, and I'm not even certain why I chose this one. What a wonderful surprise.

I have not paid too much attention to the DVD releases, but I'll have to reconsider for the two you mention, as I was so impressed with Fish Story.

For those 2 you mentioned, 1 was a film I produced (and therefore had complete control of the entire process and copyright) and the New directors set was dealing with super super indie films where we were able to take full control of the process.
Rights with studios can be complicated, and crowdfunding campaigns too, so it's not really something I want to do to be honest

Daisuke went to college in the US I believe, and spent some time in the UK in childhood.

Also plenty of crowdfunding campaigns aren't successful or end up with angry donators when the product isn't delivered in time!

Just saw _error_4444 mention on Instagram that two European distributors are putting out Funky Forest: The First Contact and Warped Forest in HD, verdy interesting indeed.

Don't think I noticed any in Fopp, albeit I didn't look properly at the section that Stardust Brother was in so there might have been some there.

I'm really excited for this one! Haven't seen either film, but Funky Forest has been on my watchlist for a long time, since I love Taste of Tea, and I heard Funky Forest is pretty crazy.

I figured Funky Forest would be picked up next considering TWF released The Taste of Tea, but with Warped Forest also? wow.

Many of you are probably familiar with Funky Forest without realising as it was one of those Japanese films that had clips go viral on YouTube many years ago for being very "WTF" and "strange", so I'm really happy that it's coming to the UK and on Blu-ray none-the-less.

I'm also intrigued by The Warped Forest since apparently it was never released on home video before not even in Japan.

TWF to release TWF for those who never say WTF to unusual films.

(Though, of course, it's not official yet but, if it is, then it's a pre-order from me.)
