I've done that before and it was when Tron Legacy came out. I had the Daft Punk score and it was great, but when the film came out, I kind of already new where the music beats were and sort of blew the surprises for myself. Ever since then I will watch the film before getting the score/soundtrack. |

This has been the topic of discussion in other threads today. What are the ramifications if gen z continue to place little value in film? Is there enough money to be made from millennials, gen x and boomers if the worst was to happen and the younger gen reject film and tv? What timespan do you guys think we would be dealing with before gen z shows a huge fall off in cinema and home entertainment numbers? Obviously the older gen are still displaying high percentages of video consumption But losing younger crowds would be a devastating blow for Hollywood and home entertainment. |

Great job misinterpreting an article. The article only says that some among Generation Z do not rank watching movies/TV as their FAVORITE form of entertainment; that does not mean in any way that they have a growing dislike for movies and TV shows. The younger crowd has not been "lost." According to your article Generation Z only prefers social media by one percentage point higher than they do movies/TV (11% vs. 10%); are we to then infer that social media is in trouble? They only prefer using the internet by two percentage points higher (12% vs. 10%); is the internet itself in peril, too? Movies/TV, social media, and internet usage are all perfectly safe. It is a light year beyond silly to think otherwise. Preferences also have a way of changing as we age. Just enjoy your leisure time doing what you prefer to do and allow others the same privilege. Stop all this hand wringing over what young people do. Last edited by Vilya; 09-30-2021 at 10:56 PM. |

Also, I don’t mean in immediate danger, I mean when gen z reach the age where they may settle down, have a job, have kids etc. in ten years, gen Z will be the dominant age group on the planet. Surely traditional media companies would have to include gaming to stay relevant? If film is less of a focus for that age group, less money will be spent on features. The biggest concern is the mention of a seismic and permanent shift if these trends continue and the ramifications for Hollywood. Last edited by Steedeel; 09-30-2021 at 09:55 PM. |

The article lists the top five forms of home entertainment preferred by Generation Z. Except for video games, preferred as their top choice by 26%, the next four types of home entertainment are separated by very thin margins: 14% prefer music the most, 12% prefer surfing the internet, 11% prefer using social media, and 10% prefer watching movies/TV. Each of these "runner-ups" are only separated by 1-4 percentage points. All of these percentages only add up to 73%, which means that a full 27% percent are either undecided or have entirely different preferences than those listed in the article. What this suggests is that people really like having a variety of home entertainment options. Generation Z probably likes doing all of these things, thus why they are among their TOP five things to do with their free time. NONE of these forms of home entertainment are in any kind of trouble. As you know, the gen z thing has been a long standing concern of mine. It’s not about mouthing off about others choices really, it’s about the enjoyment of my number one love (outside family) into my old age. I fear the loss of film above everything else bar my family.
