ok .... here's the big news ---- I'm going to be the worlds happiest man for the rest of my life and if you liked me griping I'm sorry because those days are over.

Today I preordered the future of my home video and I'm simply exploding with joy. I'll have a stupid grin for most likely the next decade.

JVC 3100 will be the future of home video for me.

[Show spoiler]

Now there's a thing of beauty!

I am so very happy for you! How long do you have to wait to get it? However long it is, it will give you time to accessorize like adding that 3D lens that Wendell mentioned or maybe a newer, bigger screen or maybe those chairs with the built-in speakers? So many possibilities!

Congratulations! May the reality of owning this new projector be twice the fun of anticipating its arrival.

Sky were excellent before the Comcast takeover and still are. Very happy customer here. This tv may replace my current living room set in the future.

They want us buying second hand or even going tv less (section further down). This is the type of guilt trip we are going to get over the next decade as more and more articles and guides appear. It’s going to be a miserable decade.

They can prise my tv or projector from my cold, dying hands.
Nobody gives F one about what "they" want. People will buy whatever TV they like; I know that I will and I will not feel any guilt about it at all. The next decade will be what you decide to make of it.

My 85" TV's annual operating cost for electricity is about $60; that's only about 3.33% of my total annual household electricity bill. If I wanted to make a meaningful attempt to conserve energy, using my TV less, or even eliminating it altogether, would have no significant impact on my power usage. Our air conditioning, furnace, and appliances are responsible for the vast bulk of our home energy consumption; adjust the thermostat if you really want to save energy.

We have been down this road with you before; no one is going to infringe upon your ability to own and watch a TV...or a nice new 8K projector.

He didn't create Servant from what I understand. He just executive produces it and directed some episodes. Tony Basgallop is the creator and showrunner. Still a great show though. Just finished the first season.

It’s not the usage, it’s the mining of precious elements and the end of life issue that is going to be the guilt trip angle. I don’t feel remotely guilty but we have some pretty gullible people on this planet. I had to laugh though when the Sky TV set news broke minutes later. It’s a big deal here as Sky are our major pay tv service. It’s very appealing for me as I’m already a dish customer. I have my Atmos in the HT so it’s not a hardship just having a (built in) sound bar in the living room. The problem is, my current OLED tv is doing just fine. This may be a case of FOMO.

Sky's X Class TVs are aptly named; I would cross these fugly sets off of any TV consideration list.

Rare Earth minerals are so "precious" that no force will prevent them from being mined. Children hospitals will be razed to the ground if even the suspicion of rare earth minerals are thought to be found there. These minerals are critical to computers, smartphones, and to so many other tech devices that they will move heaven and Earth, literally, to mine them.

I wouldn't worry about people being "gullible", either. When it comes to people getting what they want, their self gratification will override any other consideration.

It’s because of the directional speakers. I don’t mind it. I could get rid of the dish and set top box. It’s very minimalistic with just one connection. (It does have 3 HDMI though)

Like I said, it would be a nice contrast to my HT. not interested in the camera to be honest.

Even with those ugly thick TV cabinets, they are not roomy enough to allow for high quality speakers yet alone proper placement of them. It probably sounds similar to a basic soundbar...minus a subwoofer.

Even if these eyesore TVs offer acceptable sound, there's still no reason for that webcam to be as big as a four slice toaster.

It’s got a subwoofer I think. Remember, This is just casual viewing for me. I don’t mount my tv but it is mountable and uses magnets. For serious film enjoyment, I go the HT route.

The pictures in the article don't show any subwoofers, which suggests that if one is included that it is nothing that they care to brag about. The 100 watt incandescent light bulbs that I used to use in my reading lamps probably drew more power than these built-in TV speakers are rated to handle.

It's still a butt ugly TV even if it sounds like a choir of angels, all soprano of course, because you are not getting any real bass from any TV's built-in speakers.

Exactly. It just means I can get rid of the dish.

Plus, I can have watch parties with a bunch of friends when watching a film!

Yes, that was a sick joke!

One of your two buddies in the Old and Malignant threads hosts watch parties; I am sure he'd be happy to help you hold one of your own.

They are too busy trolling the Old thread for the 20th time. For folk who don’t like the film, they spend a shocking amount of time in the thread. It’s just a ruined thread, I keep away now.
