It's too late to put the genie back in the bottle for this watch party thing isn't it?

I thought steaming was bad but zoom/skype type does sound like the worst way to see a movie ever.

Isn't it awfully far from the original intent? I haven't tried and hopefully never will so I don't have any idea really of what the screen looks like during a watch party. I assume it's similar to a zoom call.

I'm hosting a movie this weekend but everyone will be in the same room and the content is on site.
(Hosting The Miracle Season for friends I play Volleyball with weekly.... recommended.)

My copy of Breakdown on BD finally arrived after supposedly being "delivered" last Friday. Amazon replaced it. Also got in the new version of Kubo on BD. My Universal Monsters 4K disc set also arrived yesterday.

Everyone has different levels of immersion.

I want the Universal Monster movies on 4K, but I detest the cardboard sleeve packaging that Universal insists upon using for their multi-disc sets. I will have to buy each title individually in order to get cases that actually protect the super sensitive 4K disc.

Also, if history is any indicator, Universal will later release a 4K box set that includes all of their classic monster movies like they did with:

only to be followed with:

I found a site called Watch Party and it says..

Theater mode.
Bring video and chat front-and-center for minimal distractions.

Maybe minimized distractions but not quite minimal.

I could see my kids being into this.... They love stuff you can do with phones and all that.

Recently I thought maybe the thing I really like about movies is you aren't supposed to talk during them.

[Show spoiler]
I do not worry about how other people choose to watch movies because I eventually realized that it has no effect upon me. In short:

I have never attended an internet connected watch party, either, as I do not think that I would like it, especially for a first time viewing. If it was held in the spirit of, say, a Mystery Science Theater event where everyone pokes fun at a really, really bad movie, I could see where that could be a riot.

I would rather put my head in the oven. This type of thing is more for people who want to socialise. Maybe they are lonely. Or kids bored with Twatter, Snapchat, Tik Tok or whatever the f*** they use these days. The film is just an excuse. Not for me.

As i said immersion is different for different people. I can watch a movie and type. Sometimes i just listen to movies while I work. A few people have said they will not watch party a movie the first viewing. I play multi-player games. If I can focus with all that is happening around me movies are easy. Plus i can rewind and pause. Not everything is for everyone. If you or others are not interested, it is easy to avoid.

That’s not how the hip kids are doing it. One person hosts on Zoom and then screen shares the film. It’s a mess of stuttering and lip sync and it looks f****** dreadful. You then have several people trying to think of something funny to say and failing miserably.

Come to think of it, I can see why Mwynn uses it now!

I have that ultimate set on BD that I got last year during a lightning deal for $74.

The new 4K set I got for $49 shipped on GRUV using GRUVLOYAL20 for an additional 20% discount. I don't care about the cases. I might watch Dracula today. I prefer the Spanish version and that one has been confirmed as also being in 4K.

So, you're saying that it looks and sounds just as good as streaming?

Well, that describes how Amazon Prime streaming performs for me. I have no troubles with any other digital distribution service.

That’s not watching a movie. Multiplayer games are entirely different. You sound like you don’t even like movies that much.

It’s worse. Add to that, annoying know it alls talking over the top and you have a recipe for ‘boil your head’ soup.

No. There is no screen sharing. Everyone plays it from their own service. The tool just syncs everyone. So if i pause it pauses all.

The key to any good party is to invite guests that you like, silly. That's as true for in person events as it is for virtual ones.
