It's $15 here for first Showtime then it's $20.50 regular price and price just keeps getting increased.

I'm glad a majority of y'all liked it. Got my tickets for tomorrow with the Mrs. I wanted to see it in Imax, but she refuses to go to a theater where there aren't reclining seats. If I like it enough, I'll see it by myself in Imax next week, AM show of course lol. There's an Imax 10 blocks from my job so I'll just come into work late.

I just wanted motivations. Clearly Nebula has daddy issues but it was only hinted at. BesidesLoki, the Marvel villains have never been awesome though.

Wow, so it looks like local IMAX theatres can price tickets at their discretion, I always thought prices were about the same across the board like regular movie theatres.

Surprise, surprise, the comedy was genuinely hilarious, and the movie developed a surprising amount of pathos from two CGI characters. Groot can make people cry despite his limited vocabulary. That is awesome.
Who would've thought three simple words and a cgi tree could be so tear inducing?

Nope. Studios mostly dictate ticket prices these days. They can be especially keen on directing prices for heavy populated areas, or proven demographically successful areas. If prices were dictated by the theatres, the studios wouldn't make any money. The theatres would just offer tickets at $1 to get larger numbers of foot traffic, thereby increasing the chances of concession sales. I say this because studios are taking almost 100% of the box office revenue for almost all films now during the first month or two. So, there is barely any incentive for the theatres themselves to raise prices.

Oh. My second viewing yielded much more positive results. I don't know why I didn't enjoy it all that much the first time. But, last night it proved to entertain quite effectively. I'd still put it amidst the middle of the list for Marvel Universe films.

Spoiler tidbits and questions:

[Show spoiler]
Star Wars stuff:
1. Is Star Lord's helmet, costume, and foot jetpacks a riff on Boba Fett? His helmet is obviously pretty damn cool as Fett's.
2. Did anyone else notice that one of the robotic voices on a loudspeaker sounded exactly like EV-9D9 - the droid that tells R2, "You're a feisty little one, but you'll soon learn some respect."

Marvel Universe stuff:
1. Did anyone notice what all the background stuff in The Broker's shop was on display?
2. Besides Howard, Adam, and Belke, did anyone notice what all the background characters/things in The Collector's room was on display? Who was that white looking creature that kept showing up? Was that one of those Thor Dark World villains?
3. Is Starlord's emperor father Jason of Sparta going to show up in future films since he was mentioned by Nova Prime and Yondu?
4. Are the Guardians going to hopefully show up in other films besides their own?
5. Was the skin-falling-apart deteriation of the Collector's secretary as she held the gem stone a nod to what happens to Nebula when she gets transformed into an ugly zombie in The Infinity Gauntlet books?

Other tidbits:
1. The Kree ambassador was played by Maximus' military sidekick "sheath your swords!" from Gladiator
2. The biotchy movements and line delivery by Nebula was awesome. Very subtle but it was awesome seeing her act pissed off.
3. In the prison, two of those prisoners looked like Mel Brooks and Jackie Earle Haley. Funny stuff!

Saw on release and gotta say, this is probably the best year Marvel has had so far. Cap 2 and this are just amazing. Both movies are all meat and no potatoes (that's a good thing btw )

I think Cap 2 offered a different more 'serious' take on things in Marvel with high stakes and a tone to match with espionage elements whereas here, the stakes are high, but the comedy aspects keep a really fun tone to the movie.

Avengers eat your heart out. There's a new group on the block.

Phase II has definitely had a better 2014 than 2013. I think Captain America 2 was better than Guardians, but both were miles better than Iron Man 3 and Thor 2.

You guys don't seriously think they were considering making a movie with him?!
Absolutely! He's the one that started it all for Marvel movies. I, for one, want a remake.

It was a very good movie but these kind of threads never surprise for the amount of offhand comments about other Marvel movies. Some people can never give up a chance to bash other Marvel movies I guess.

My favorite comment was 'Robert Downey Jr 3', I never seen that one before.

agreed,
I'd probably put it on par with Avengers, just beating out Iron Man 1 (and I LOVE me some Iron Man)
though I'm curious as to how it will hold up on repeat viewings....hopefully I'll find out again this w/e

Just got back from seeing it. Friggin loved it!!! By far, the best of the recent Marvel movies. Hell, it may be the best Marvel movie in general.

The stinger was worth the price of purchase alone.
