I'd probably go eight, because of that boggy last act, but four or five? To each their own. What can I say?

Oh, and there was all kinds of weirdness before the screening...boy do I have some stories. Wackyness on a scale I've never experienced at a screening. I gotta run, but hoo boy, you're gonna love this stuff.

has anyone noticed an odd trend on this site?

More times that not, a review for a theatrical film gets low marks but then the same film gets a much higher rating when it's blu ray release hits...

not always mind you, but I've seen it enough times to wonder what the mindset is?

Well they don't always have the same person doing the theatrical and Blu-ray reviews. That would be my best guess.

despite the middling reviews, looking forward to seeing this on Monday with my family... the worst Bond films to me are still entertaining.

I'm not expecting SKYFALL (and haven't since seeing the early trailers of this installment) but I'm reasonably confident that this will be a "good" movie at the very least....

btw, I don't give any Bond film a 2 out of 5 star rating...

Replayed this a few times today to remind myself that Sam Smith's Spectre theme isn't as bad as I originally made it out to be:

On the subject of reviews, I've noticed that Daniel Craig's films tend to have an up and down relationship. Casino Royale was well received and loved by critics, Quantum of Solace not so much. Then came Skyfall which was a success with the critics, and now we have Spectre getting somewhat poor reviews. If this pattern continues and he agrees to do a fifth movie perhaps it will be another hit?

Quantum of Solace Theme Song - YouTube
I give the Smith song the edge. "Another Way to Die" is horrendous, but it's also abbreviated in that title sequence and honestly the only truly wretched part is near the end where they go "Oh whoa oh oh oh". I feel the same way about Sheryl Crow's "Tomorrow Never Dies". The single was awful, but within the title sequence it was remixed and shorter, so it became tolerable.

The problem with the Smith tune is that what plays in the SPECTRE title sequence is either the entire song or damn near all of it and it's not remixed in any way. It's the same piece of garbage as the single. Plus Kleinman's visuals this time around couldn't salvage it. He uses some truly odd imagery of a shirtless Daniel Craig being fondled.

I'd probably give it a 7. It was serviceable, a throwback adventure which was pretty retrograde but enjoyable enough and the set pieces were well thought-through. What annoys me is the constant fawning over Skyfall in that review, a beautiful-looking film that, fair enough, did try to be different but was such a mess after Silva was introduced, riddled with plot-holes and contrived character motivations/actions. I'd take Spectre over it, personally.

Rotten Tomatoes has a 71% Top Critics approval, and 99% audience want to see it, so should result in a very high demand BD title when it comes out. As others when I see 4/10 review , and its not a B rated flick, usually the reviewer has a axe to grind in comparing it to other films rather then accepting it as stand alone entertainment.

The fact that he thinks Skyfall was better than Casino Royale is all I need to know to ignore his review here.

Also by his rating he puts Spectre = Blade 3

Casino Royale is the best Bond movie ever. Skyfall is middle of the pack.

I went to see Spectre last Thursday with a group of friends. I thoroughly enjoyed the film (except one part) and confirms Craig as one of my favourite Bonds.

Really enjoyed the pre credit sequence and actually despite not liking the theme song, when worked into the credits I found it OK.

There was a lot in this film to consider and I will definitely be grabbing the blu-ray or UHD blu-ray when released to see what I may have missed.

How dare Brian Orndorf have his own opinion! He should fall in line, as should all the other critics.

I love when people see a score they don't like from a critic and then start researching their reviews to find whatever other scores they don't like so they can say how much that critic's opinion can't be trusted. Happens every single time, especially for negative reviews on big movies. At least this movie wasn't directed by Nolan, so he's not receiving death threats.

He didn't like the movie. So what.
