I'm going to pick up Wings of Desire and Howards End during the B&N sale but i wasnt sure if i should pick up Monsoon Wedding as well. I havent really seen anyone talking about that movie on here so i wondering what everyone thought of it.

These are the Criterion Blus I already have:
The 400 Blows
The Seventh Seal
The Wages of Fear
For All Mankind
The Third Man
Playtime
Pierrot le fou
The Last Emperor
Bottle Rocket
Chungking Express
In the Realm of the Senses
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Last Year at Marienbad
Repulsion

I have most of the ones that are already available but are there any that i havnt listed that anyone would suggest picking up too??

Monsoon Wedding is a wonderful little movie, but even if you don't like it, you should still pick it up for all the supplemental stuff on the disc (the documentaries and Mira Nair's short films). They're all great and totally worth the $13 by themselves.

Thanks for the responses guys. According to the Barnes and Noble website the store by me has a copy of "The Third Man" in stock so I will call them tomorrow to hold it for me, hopefully the web site is correct in that the movie is in stock. Beta man I hear you but I am a big fan of the 60's music scene and to own the Trifecta of 60's music festivals (Monterey the birth of it, Woodstock the peak, and Altamonte on the Gimme Shelter the cruel swift death of the flower power era on Blu seems like a cool mini collection) I do appreciate your insight though Ok guys good luck to everybody come Tuesday at Barnes and Noble!!!!!!!!!!!

Ohh as a added note slightly off topic. Going into my Barnes and Noble to check out the Criterion Blu's last Thursday, I saw the Beatles Mono Re-master CD set behind the counter. I stared at it long enough that the guy working there goes, I take it you would like to see that. At nearly $300.00 it was way out of my price range right now, but it is nice to know it is still available to buy on the retail level.

A couple of months ago Borders had a 50% off coupon and many people picked those up for $150.

Anyone have a "battle plan" for the big sale on the 10th, or is everyone just catching up on the missing Blu's?

Beta? CC? you guys picking anything up?

I feel kinda guilty about buying more, considering I spent around $300 on the last sale. But my wants may out weigh my needs.

I like Amazon..... the extra money is worth the lack of effort for me.....

Wings of Desire showed up in my mailbox today, and Howard's End is due Monday........ Other than Pre-orders, I don't have anything I'd be able to pick up from B&N anyways.....

There are quite a few DVDs I wouldn't mind picking up, but I know if I go in there, I'll spend $500

Got Wings, Howard's End, and Monsoon Wedding in the mail tuesday, but haven't watched any of them yet. Too busy with GI Joe (gasp) and Dragon Age: Origins on the PS3, seriously it's almost job-quitting good.

I dunno Beta, I got the "perfect storm" brewing here in Pittsburgh. I work for Giant Eagle, right now we're offering double the gas discount when you by gift cards in store (20 cents off per gallon per $50 spent on Gift cards). We sale B&N GCs. 50% off at B&N. I smell a large purchase coming.

I'm with Beta on this one. I get all of my movies through Amazon, for the most part, and my prime membership gets them all to me within two days. Although, I did buy quite a few Criterions at the last Barnes & Noble sale back in July. Still, though, I bought the majority of those purchases through Barnes & Noble's website using coupons and the such.

Unfortunately, too, I'm kind of not supposed to be buying myself any items before Christmas, according to my gf. The things I'm really wanting are the remaining Criterion Eclipse sets that I don't own, but she has them on her list and she's aware of the sale coming up. Other than those items, the only thing I might get myself is a copy of "Battle Of Algiers."

Let us know what you get, though, zedd.

CC

Battle of Algiers is one I've wanted for a while, other than that I'm trying really hard not to look. Though those Ozu Elcipse Boxes would be nice too...

I'm going to buy Howards End and Wings of Desire, I also usually buy from Amazon, but being able to get one title for $18 and one for $13 (plus they take Paypal) is too good to miss.
The only thing I'm wondering is whether Gomorrah will be available at 50% off; apparently the sale ends on the 24th at 2:59am so theoretically it should be available to order for 2 hours 59 minutes

Might pick up The Human Condition, since MSRP is $80. Otherwise I have most of the blus and dont want Howard's End.

Pretty sure The Human Condition will be my only DVD purchase this time around. Can't say no to ~$30 for that.

I'm hoping to get In the Realm of the Senses or maybe Wages of Fear. They didn't have any of the Monterey Pop stuff, so I guess that'll have to be ordered online if they don't have anymore stock in the back of the store. I didn't see Wings of Desire either.
Online is the best way to go, I'm pretty sure they do free shipping on anything over $25.

Online is not at all the best way to go, you save tons more money in store.

Sooner, Criterion has only released about 20 Blu-Rays so far, so 17 isn't exactly a small amount. And your local store can special order any title you want, it usually takes 2-3 days to come in.

I think he meant 17 titles in total, not just Criterion titles. That's how I read it anyway.

That can't be. No B&N store with a Blu-Ray section only carries 17 titles.

Yeah, but the selection and the availability is much greater online. Plus, you can usually use the same coupon code multiple times, as long as you don't mind splitting up you order into several smaller ones.

Trust me, I placed about 15 orders in july when the last sale occured, I picked up 29 titles (all DVDs) for just under $300.

Just google Barnes and Noble Coupon, and you should find some active codes.

Plus, you have no sales tax when you order online. Since shipping is free, you pay less online. No brainer.
