If not because of the promised brighter output and 8K eShiftx I would not buy it. I’m very happy with my NX7 except that I change my bulb every 700 hours to maintain the brightness I like.

Tickets for Last Night in Soho are now on sale at my local AMC. I may go to the advanced screening on Wednesday, as it will also be in Dolby Cinema.

On the bad news front, a friend of mine went to a press screening of Antlers last night and said it sucked. He came to the conclusion that most of the GDT produced, and not directed films, tend to suck.

Also, my 4K discs of Inglourious Basterds and Carlito's Way arrived this afternoon.

Squid Game’ Bests ‘Bridgerton’ To Become Biggest Netflix Series Ever With a Whopping 111 Million Viewers - Decider 10/12

Quote:
Squid Game has crowned its winner, and so has Netflix. Today, the streamer announced that the explosively popular Korean drama show became the biggest series launch ever for Netflix, with 111 million fans tuning in for epic thrills in the show’s first month. Congrats, Squid Game!

The news comes at no surprise, as the series has been causing quite a ruckus around the world since its release on Sept. 17. Netflix is currently being sued by a Korean internet provider for clogging online traffic due to so many households streaming the show. At least that’s a good problem! The games have also caused a random Korean man to receive thousands of daily phone calls after his number was revealed in the show, have incited a discussion about English translations in foreign series, and birthed several viral memes on social media.

In becoming Netflix’s biggest series, Squid Game has dethroned steamy period piece Bridgerton, which was released not so long ago in Dec. 2020. Other popular series include Money Heist, Lupin, Sex/Life, Stranger Things, and You.

Kept my Kloss Novabeam for 19 years, fortunately I could buy rebuilt projection tubes. My JVC projector lasted 10 years, I believe brownouts took it out while it was warming up. My Sony projector is almost 7 years old. Have connected to a full time UPS.

Well Projectors have the best Picture Quality, but they are expensive. My last TV was a rear Projection Mitsubishi DLP and the Lamp had to be changed every 3 to 4 years, and I had it more than a Decade.....Great PQ! Replacing Projectors every year seems extreme and very expensive, but if it's only the Lamp then it's less.

Disc Collectors say they have the best Quality, but for a Gold Standard it seems you need $15K Projector and a $1000+ UHD 4K Player with an equal Sound System at double or triple the price. Anything less you are just compromising your expectations for the best Disc Presentation!

Can't you buy laser projectors now that don't use lamps? Wouldn't that be cheaper in the long run?

No you don't need a 15K projector, or a $1000 UHD 4K player, or a sounds system at double or triple the price.

If you wanted something of reasonable quality you get a 65" OLED TV (LG/Sony), A Sony UBP-X800M2 UHD 4K player, and Denon AVR X4700. Likely a $3000 Epic Master 500 Home Theater System from Xiom would do you.

Cost of everything is about $2500 TV + $300 player + AVR $2000 + speakers $3000. Not that much to blow your setup out the door.

Watched Lamb at the local theater. It was pretty powerful with beautiful scenery and good cinematography. I like how you don't understand the beginning of the movie until the end.

Yeah, after Halloween Kills, that’s my next film at the cinema.

Laser projectors are here but no one knows how much cheaper they will be in the long run. They are too new for now. Hopefully modular, replaceable laser or in-expensive laser projector will be the next phase.

Yes

Depends on ones skill level, experience, etc. A Sony branded lamp assembly cost around $370 for my projector. I pay around $120 for Ushio bare lamps and reuse the OEM housing.

I’m blind buying that on Blu-ray unless it gets a 4K disc of course.

Monday we stopped at the Knoxville TN Best Buy that has a Magnolia Design Center to checkout SVS bookshelf loudspeakers. While there took a look at a few direct view displays, a LG 77" caught my eye with its really good picture. It was only $19,999.

For $20K it better be a stunner.

Yeah, that's their 8K OLED; I think that LG is the only company that offers 8K OLED TVs.

Sony's 8K TVs are all full array LEDs, the Z9J. You can own their 85" version for a much more affordable $9000.

Sony also offers a 100" Full Array LED 4K TV for $20K; Robert Zohn announced it here:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...5&postcount=42

Buy them all and have your own TV shootout.

In my own personal experience, I’ve found that if you play DVDs in a modern quality name brand player capable of upconverting video, and you’ve set your TV up properly by turning off all the “motion compensation” features; you’ll achieve video quality equivalent to “medium grade” Netflix video. I got few Home improvement video from Home Depot.

Well,... Some of the motion compensation helps certain sets without causing artifacts. For example Black Frame Insertion or BFI doesn't cause the so called Soap Opera Effect.

And, DVDs are swell but anything they can do Blu Ray and UHD Blu Ray only does better.

Saw Escape from L.A. last night in 35mm at the Academy Museum and it was pretty freakin' awesome! It was a 300 seater and there is no bad seat in the house.
