Is the boxset the only place you can get the remastered theatrical cuts? Are the individual releases from an older master?

Yes. It was unavailable for a little while. After it came back into stock they've been shipping the thicker case out from Amazon.

Amazon just SHipped my set I ordered last Friday woot woot!

I held off purchasing earlier only because I had heard mis-information that both LW 1 and 2 were the exact same North American releases with picture quality issues and lossy audio.

Remastered or not, the director's cuts are superior. I refuse to buy LW in HD until I can have both goddamn cuts as it should be. It's sickening that studios still keep screwing us on releases with multiple versions despite the fact they can easily have both on the same goddamn disc now.

Despite what it says on the cover the theatrical cuts are the director's cuts. Donner had nothing to do with the extended cuts that Warner tossed together.

I could give a shit less. Call them Extended Cuts then. Either way, I like the extra scenes, and they had no business cheating us out of those cuts on the BD discs. The playground thing at the beginning of the first movie seems particularly important, since Murtaugh talks about it when he and Riggs first meet.

I agree the Director's Cut is a mis-used misnomer but in this case Richard Donner deleted the scenes for a reason. His versions should be the premiere release on Blu-ray not the studio extended cut. The extended version of Lethal Weapon is still available although the AV isn't a match for the new release. People would be more outraged if the theatrical cuts weren't included on the new set.

You're missing the point. They could, and SHOULD, include BOTH. It's been done with many releases; yet, many more get screwed. They need to stop giving us less content in BD releases than their DVD counterparts had, especially when we're talking about movies like Lethal freakin Weapon! They gave us 5 goddamn versions of Bladerunner, but they couldn't be bothered to author LW discs to show us 2?

Every version of Blade Runner on that 5-disc set has been screened theatrically. 4 of them got wide theatrical releases. The Legal Wreckin "director's cuts" on the other hand were released back in 1998 as a marketing tie-in to the theatrical debut of the 4th movie. Not to mention that Ridley Scott approved the inclusion of all those cuts. It's entirely possible that Richard Donner refused to give WB his blessing to include the extended versions of his flicks.

And if it helps, those deleted scenes(along with some new ones as well) are included in the special features. You can't view them within the context of the movie, but at least they weren't omitted entirely.

I always felt personally that the deleted scenes dod nothing in the context of the entire movie overall. I'm very happy with this purchase and cannot wait to view this films.

I thought this had only one package option with a Amaray case? Is the thicker box some sort of a digipack?

There's a thick Amaray style case and a slimmer version, there haven't been any Digipak's. The thicker pack has replaced the slimmer cases with some retailers, they both should come with slipcases.

Odd, usually the other way round. The new chunkier box must be cheaper to produce.

I thought the big box would have been used for stores as it has a 'red tag' hole but apparently not. Weird Warners Bros. Weird.

Thanks for info and pics Chip75. So it seems the extra thick case is the same used by Fox in the latest pressing of Alien Anthology.

https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=5904 I wonder if we'll be getting these "stunning remasterings" as well, next year. If not, I'll pick this set up.
