Is it the decision to stop releasing comedies? Ba-doom-tish. I kid. I'm looking forward to hearing what the news is! TWF are one of my favourite labels.

Excellent to see more from Korea. I've seen Bleak Night and while I wouldn't want to see it again, I can really appreciate a powerful film like that being available to this territory.

I'm unaware of the others, but Pluto sounds proper ****ed up. I'm all for that.

I'm looking at the Bullet Ballet art choices on your FB, 1 and 5 look fantastic.

Fine taste mate haha.

Here is a fantastic trailer for Bullet Ballet. I've not had the pleasure of seeing this, but this experimental Tsukamoto is my favourite Tsukamoto.

I have to wonder... could Third Window release Ichi The Killer in the future? The US Blu looks SO bad.

in theory, but will have to wait a bit. Wondering that with so many different versions out there, including 3 disc collectors sets and all, how many people would upgrade to a better version considering the cost of putting it out there and licensing it. Will definitely take on board though

Hahaha! Best of luck with all this mate.

I'm getting really excited about the 2 Tsukamoto releases that are due in the next months. You mentioned they would come with slipcovers and alternate art right?

Hi KillerJuan77,

The problem with any studio attempting to release ICHI THE KILLER in the UK, is the fact that the film will almost inevitably end-up being heavily censored. And as most UK fans of this film know that, they won't bother purchasing a film, whose main enjoyment is the depiction of extreme violence and abherrant sexual scenes. It's ICHI's raison d'etre. Instead, they'll simply import it from Japan, the USA, or from somewhere else in Europe that has it uncut and uncensored. I did that. I bought the 3-disc Collector's Set from the USA.

So, there'd be little point in Third Window Films bothering with ICHI, unless it was able to pass through the BBFC's hallowed halls, intact. And, alas, that isn't going to happen anytime soon.

yeah, they will be just like the Tetsuo one, with a slipcase and then reversible sleeve art. The sleeve art is a set of new illustrations for each film by the same artist who did the Tetsuo illustrations

Little touches like that show you take time and care with your releases, I really appreciate it. I think I speak for most people when I thank you for getting these fantastic Tsukamoto releases out in HD.

Who is the artist BTW Adam? Very good style!

I do have a little hope. Didn't they pass Basei-Moi uncut? That film had sexual violence with unsimulated sex and graphic close ups (They still cut I Spit On Your Grave which makes no sense).

the reason we have been able to do so much with the Tsukamoto films is because of Tsukamoto himself. Actually he's one of the ONLY filmmakers in all of Japan whose films are independent in all aspects. His films are financed and produced by him and he owns all rights to his films which means that the normal film committee nonsense doesn't need to be dealt with as per other films.

Most people ask for independent films or older cult classics to be release or restored, but most people don't understand the sheer madness of the film committee system in japan which is created to share burden on film investors and producers, but means that films, even low budget and independent ones, are usually created by multiple companies, and therefore permission from all companies is required before release elsewhere. For older titles this becomes even harder as it's harder to reach older producers or committees, so releasing films like Eyes of the Spider / Serpent's Path was a real pain, and if you want to restore such works getting access to original materials can be hell and comes with no participation and nothing but stress and you'll rarely get the chance to work directly with the director.

With Tsukamoto's works, we worked with the director from the beginning and directly in contact at all times, so it was such a simple process and came from both our desires to have the films out in new versions. Most directors usually have no idea their films have been released overseas as usually the ball stops at the producers or film committee members who don't care about overseas due to the lack of major money.

Believe me, the stress of dealing with such things as a foreigner is unbelievable, and working in a film committee (as I am now for Fuku-chan and did before for Land of Hope) is like being in the 'computer says so' comedy sketch of Little Britain or an absurd Monty Python act.

since you mention eyes of the spider / serpents path.. how is the releasing doing? are sales good or more like vulgaria/ for loves sake?

in terms of company size.. how "big" are other labels like Terracotta compared to thirdwindow films? or rapid eye movies?

it must be really impossible to for small labels these days to get "big movies" at all? saw a while ago that WARNER BROTHERS is going to release the kenshin movie in the UK ;D
