I don't know about that. It could happen. Or I'll f*cking make it happen. Somehow.

Ugh same I'm already stressing with the Rebellion printed shipping box Aniplex+ sent my Rebellion BD in. I don't even have space for the set itself let alone a box @_@

I wonder if there are any proper HD samples out yet besides that 360p promo...

None that I know of, sadly. Unlike the 2003 Renewal DVD release (which had both a Newtype Magazine demo disc and a stand-alone retail disc with Episode 1 by itself a month before the box set came out) early customers are going to end up buying the Blu-ray release on faith alone.

On the bright side, HMV Japan has updated their listings with higher-res images of the Blu-ray and Archive boxes, here you go...

Any screenos yet? I'd love to see how NGE TV series looks in high definition.

Can't help you there, as I've got my own Eva-afflction to deal with (namely home video releases). I'm just lucky that I'm not a figurine collector, as they get very expensive (especially the nice RAH ones).
We probably need an anime addict support group even if it isn't Eva based. I could go crazier buying that stuff. I should use that anime addict wallpaper that I have somewhere..

The box in the mockup seems pretty thick, maybe it's perspex instead of just the thin but hard plastic they use on Limited Edition CD singles etc. which I was expecting?
That's a tiny bit concerning as perspex looks absolutely awful when it starts to get scratched and when I was working with it at school it tended to get scratched easily, granted I won't be at this set with a large file or sand paper so maybe I was just a little rough with perspex in the past

The booklet from the 2003 "Renewal" DVD-BOX really isn't all that great as compared to those from its theatrical Laserdisc counterpart. Very little information and too much filler.

Heck, 6 of its 100 pages contain only the phrase "殺してやる" (I'll kill you!) repeated over and over...

I'd venture a guess at 2017 over here. At least I hope so.

That actually sounds a little too optimistic. 2018 at the earliest.

Yeah I guess but the 2017 date would give at least 2 years to calm fears of reverse importation. On the other hand we still haven't gotten 3.33 so yeah.

The US "Platinum Edition" discs from 2004-2005 are decent for what they are. Unfortunately ADV interlaced the video on them, unlike the Japanese "Renewal" DVDs which were progressive-scan.

In any case, they're far better than the older "Perfect Collection" box from 2002 that re-used the same lousy source masters that were originally utilized for the old 1996-1998 VHS tapes...

As for the secondary market prices, they have been getting slowly more expensive every year that it's been OOP (especially End of Evangelion, which went OOP well before the TV series did). Right now it's almost cheaper to import the Japanese releases!

I was lucky enough to score a used copy of EoE for $20 and the Perfect Platinum tin box of the whole series for about $40, with me getting the latter right before ADV went belly up.

If I get the subless blu-ray set cheap (at least for $150 or so to be realistic) or whatnot, i'll definitely get it. Just hoping for screencaps now at the least.

For the time being it's the best source and when I watched it I had no reason to complain about its PQ. Still, I couldn't stand the "Perfect Collection" that was putrid.

Owners of the Perfect Collection are "missing out" on the absolute worst Evangelion DVD ever, namely the first pressing of Collection 0:1 back in 2000.

It was blurry as hell, used overlays to cover on-screen Japanese-language text, and did still-frames between scene transitions to try and mitigate the telecine jitter that Gainax was (in)famous for in that era...

When ADV put out the Perfect Collection in 2002, they did a semi-stealth re-release of that volume. The easiest way to tell (without putting in the disc and reading the disc credits) is that the original release put the "Neon Genesis Evangelion" logotype on the top part of the front cover, while it was on the bottom part for the re-release.
