The Heisei films having 4K scans would explain why they get a disc to themselves. Hopefully The Brave will be loaded with extras for the whole franchise.
Aw yeah, that looks beautiful. NOw I just have to hope I can afford it when it actually comes out. I mean, I just sold off my SHout! Factory DVDs for $70, so I'm halfway there.

Oh God, not another giant cereal box. And it's another book format release? For the love of God, what is wrong with these companies???
That's it, i'm skipping this. Nearly 200$ Canadian and i'd be stuck making custom artwork all over again? No thank you. What a waste. I'm pissed, sorry for the rant. I'll stick with my current blu ray collection from Mill Creek, they look great on my shelf and are good enough for me.

I'm not thrilled with the size of the packaging but there's no way I can skip this set. It will just have to be tucked away like my Criterion Godzilla book. At least I've freed up a ton of space on my movie shelf

^^That's great. No reason to buy a premium set when you're only interested in the movies anyway. Just wasting money on newly commissioned art and reading material which you obviously don't want.

I can't wait to spend days watching, reading, and getting my whole $130 worth from this set.

Do they do standard editions of sets? I know they do with individual movies but they usually lack a disc/a different cut of the movie along with the physical accessories. The Single disc version of Arrow's Robocop only has the Director's cut and is missing the disc with the theatrical cuts and TV edit special features. This set doesn't look like it has a disc to lose and I don't think the HGL set ever came in anything other than the cereal box set.

Well, I had 20 min to cool off since. It's just so frustrating, we just went through all of this with the Godzilla set. Didn't Arrow see how disappointed a lot of us were with the size of the set? Release the same thing but in a regular size and I can't see anyone boycotting it.
Anyway, at least they have Matt Frank doing the artwork, I have huge respect for him. I would have prefered the original posters but these still look great.
I'll probably cool down more in the coming weeks and might still end up getting it somehow. But man am I disappointed by Arrow. Sigh.
End rant, promised. First world problem, right? :P

I am interested in everything except for the huge canadian price and the giant box. Had they went for a less fancy package and brought the price down a bit i'd be all over this. Anyway, i'm done here, don't want to rain more on everyone's parade. I'll go on hoping they make a smaller version down the line or release the Heisei trilogy separately at the very least.

Sometimes. They'd doing a new Phantasm set that doesn't come with the prop. They split the Hellraiser set into individual releases later. I could see them releasing the Heisei films and The Brave individually later since there's more demand for those over the Showa films.
This usually won't happen until after the Limited Edition version has sold out though.

I think you'd be surpised at the demand for the showa films, espcailly with the dubs that people grew up on. I mean, you saw the thread for criterion's Showa collection, right?

Still, I ain't risking them putting out half of what I want in more sensible packaging. Besides, those re-releases would have to be imported as it doesn't look like they're getting a US release. So on top of import prices I'd have to buy a new player just to watch them. It'd be cheaper just to buy an 8 disc case and make a custom cover and toss the cereal box into storage.

Cereal Box #2 it appears. Find some space on the HGL shelf with Lawrence of Arabia of all things.

I only say the demand for the Showa Gamera films is lower because they're so common and had really cheap Blu-ray releases before. The Brave has been long out of print and the Heisei films have new 4K scans. Arrow cramming the Showa films onto four discs while the others get their own disc each makes me think they might plan to release those by themselves later on.

I was hoping they wouldn't go with this type of packaging. I did see on eBay somebody did a blu-ray case for all the Godzilla discs, maybe they'll make one for Gamera.

I can imagine Arrow will release a standard edition of this set without the booklet and comic book and maybe in regular Blu-ray cases. I can also see them releasing the Showa and Heisei films separately.

I, for one, can not wait for this release. Just think about: We have gotten both Godzilla and Gamera in the span of a year and they are huge releases. On top of that, we got Gappa and maybe some other Kaiju releases that I can't remember right now. Its a great time to be a Kaiju fan.

The packaging doesn't bother, especially with this release as it is the whole series.

I can't imagine doing custom covers for any sets. All the big sets I have are in the original cases, including the godzilla set, bergman, herschel, and so on.
I just like having the original sets since i think they look classy

This is a most-anticipated release, especially after hearing that the English dubs will not be neglected. The lack of such in much of the Criterion Godzilla collection was a turnoff. Plus I have most of them on shelf already.

Catching up with the Heisei Cameras (and then Godzilla 14) is what actually snowballed over the last several years into my renewed enthusiasm for Godzilla and kaiju flicks in general. Collection works for me too in that I don't yet have the older Gameras on the shelf, despite of course watching them wherever they show up otherwise.

Not that I'm new to kaiju flicks, was just lapsed. I have fond memories of being fascinated especially by Guiron and what we only called The Smog Monster on TV way back when.

That map looks really cool!

It sounds like the old AIP-TV dubs will be included, which is good news. Can't wait to read the rest of the specs when they're announced!

I guess it may be a minority opinion, but I think it's kinda cool that both Godzilla and Gamera are getting similar, "monster-sized" packaging! It speaks to these collections not being just any run-of-the-mill release.

maybe they saw how many people were overjoyed with how awesome and cool the Godzilla set was! I love that set, beautiful set, awesome art inside. Totally cool.

I mean they are giving us extra and yet today people still find a way to get mad. They give something awesome and go extra and then they get trashed for doing cool stuff and making an effort.

I like the artwork, I hate the actual unwieldy packaging.

I much prefer the HGL Cereal Box size or the Criterion Bergman set that can stand on their own and fit on a normal tall shelf. I'll get it regardless with the 1st 50% offer I can find -- not a full priced Gamera Fan
