United Kingdom Coming soon to TPTV

Watched the latest new edition of preview show What's on Talking Pictures TV with Noel (first shown on the channel earlier today). One of the things coming soon will be of interest to those of us who have been discussing the original Kojak television series in the Miscellaneous Corner thread recently:

- early-sixties British drama film Impact, premiering/airing on Wednesday 14th February at 8.45 am - 10 am

- premiering on the channel on Sunday 18th February is documentary short Telly Savalas Looks at Aberdeen (part of The Baim Collection), airing at 8.30 pm - 9 pm.

*****

Yesterday (Monday), when checking the TV Schedule section on TPTV's website to see if a new week of TV schedules for the channel had been added, I saw there had (up to and including Sunday 3rd March). I haven't seen these in the TPTV listings before, but they could very well have aired on the channel before:

- interview programme Talking Pictures with Tim Healy (Mike Read interviewing the actor at one of TPTV's weekend festivals), premiering/airing on Monday 26th February at 8.45 am - 9.20 am

- early-noughties TV film The Brides in the Bath (the cast including Martin Kemp and Richard Griffiths), premiering/airing at 10.15 pm - 0.20 am

- early-eighties drama film Separate Ways (the cast including Karen Black and Tony Lo Bianco), airing on Saturday 2nd March at 3 am - 4.55 am

- late-nineties British TV film The Cater Street Hangman (the cast including Keeley Hawes), premiering/airing on Saturday 2nd March at 10.10 pm - 0.15 am

- mid-fifties film House Across the Lake, airing on Sunday 3rd March at 6.40 pm - 8.10 pm.

I've thought this before about the Stingray character Troy Tempest, and with TPTV showing the series soon, it's come back into my thoughts: was the character modelled on actor James Garner?

I thought the name of that spaghetti western sounded familiar. Thought it had had a Blu-ray release by Arrow in one of their spaghetti western boxsets, but no (had it confused with Matalo!, which was included in Arrow's Blood Money boxset). It had a German Blu-ray release several years ago, but it's not English friendly.

Have set this to record (TPTV's repeat screening in the early hours of next Thursday morning). Thanks for posting about it.

Yep, Brigitte Bardot for Marina too. Never knew that.

I thought that was the case (you can see the similarity). My favourite recurring characters on Fireball XL5 are the husband and wife spy team. The facial features of the wife remind me of the actress Jo Van Fleet, who guest-starred in an episode of Mannix as a "female crime boss", where Joe went undercover as her bodyguard (the episode was from the fourth season, called "One for the Lady").

Note: I knew it was an episode of Mannix that I remember seeing Jo Van Fleet in, but I had to check on the IMDb.

United Kingdom The Brothers (schedule move), The Cellar Club and other series on TPTV

In yesterday's (Sunday) weekly TPTV email newsletter, it was mentioned that The Brothers is moving to a different timeslot from next week. After tonight's episode, from next week the series is moving to Thursday nights in the same timeslot (8 pm - 9 pm) from Thursday 22nd February. No explanation has been given for the schedule move.

*****

The two films being shown this coming Friday night on the channel as part of the new season of The Cellar Club (including Caroline Munro's intros and outros, premiering from 9 pm to 1 am) are Amityville: The Evil Escapes and The Fifth Floor.

New (to TPTV) editions of Time to Remember continue this coming Thursday evening at 7.30 pm - 8 pm. It's been heavy stuff recently, but very informative and interesting.

Dixon of Dock Green's surviving episodes continue this coming Saturday evening at 7.20 pm - 8 pm, moving forward four years (jumping from the second to the seventh series) to an episode called "The Hot Seat"

Actor John le Mesurier makes an appearance in this coming Friday evening's Series 2 episode of Worzel Gummidge ("Very Good, Worzel"), airing at 6 pm - 6.30 pm.

United Kingdom Coming soon to Talking Pictures TV

A new week has been added to the TV Schedule section on TPTV's website (Monday 4th to Sunday 10th March). Some of the things I spotted (and some of these may have aired on the channel before):

Tuesday 5th March:

- the first episode of The Beverly Hillbillies (the cast including Barnaby Jones's Buddy Ebsen), airing at 5.55 pm - 6.30 pm (the episode, "The Clampetts Strike Oil")

Wednesday 6th March:

- followng the Johnny Ringo episode "The Poster Incident" (at 5 pm - 5.30 pm), an episode of another western series, Bonanza (from the first season, "The Gunmen"), airing at 5.30 pm - 6.35 pm. Then, an episode of western anthology series Zane Grey Theater ("Death in a Wood") airing at 6.35 pm - 7.10 pm

Saturday 9th March:

- late-eighties TV film Cause Celebre (the cast including Dame Helen Mirren, Harry Andrews and Sir David Suchet), airing at 10.10 pm - 0.20 am

Sunday 10th March:

- the first episode of drama series The Law & Mr. Jones ("What's in a Name?"), airing at 5.30 pm - 6 pm (a Christmas episode of this series was shown on TPTV late last year).

*****

On a separate note, a new edition of preview show What's on Talking Pictures TV with Noel (episode 9) premieres next Monday morning (19th February) at 9.15 am - 9.25 am.

United Kingdom A couple of updates (series The Brothers and Crown Court)

As stated in this past Sunday's weekly TPTV email newsletter and during the latest new edition of preview show What's On Talking Pictures TV with Noel, The Brothers is moving to a new timeslot from this coming Thursday night (22nd February) at 8 pm - 9 pm (the reason given is the schedule being tweaked to hopefully give The Brothers it's best place in the TPTV schedule).

In addition, due to requests from viewers, TPTV is giving Crown Court another chance by putting all three parts together (instead of spreading each story over two or three days). Hopefully this works, and further stories of the series are premiered on TPTV.

United Kingdom Dixon of Dock Green on TPTV

Cutback, was this evening's/tonight's surviving episode of Dixon of Dock Green (from the ninth series, "A Home of Their Own") the full version? I ask, because this was the first surviving episode Talking Pictures TV have shown which has been in an hour-long timeslot (including adverts). Previous episodes the channel has shown, have been in a forty minutes timeslot (including adverts).

Thought it was a very good story in tonight's episode. One of the things I look out for in situations like this (the jump in time with surviving episodes) is the possible change in the look of the series (especially the beginning and titles, the theme tune getting updated, and in the case of Dixon of Dock Green the bits where Jack Warner talks to the camera).

Next Saturday evening's/night's episode is from a few episodes later in the ninth series ("Green Wedding").

With the jump to an hour length, it felt like the story was padded out a bit (the whole opening sequence with the house being demolished wouldn't have featured in a 30 minute story) and unfortunately the culprit was obvious as soon as you saw them, but the depiction of change was interesting (a home like that must have seemed very modern in the 60s).

The jump in years is a bit jarring as the desk sergeant has aged a lot in the last 2 weeks

Anyway, I'm really enjoying this rerun (the trip to Paris was a fun episode).

Big week coming up with Stingray, Bonanza and Beverly Hillbillies all starting in the next week! Not sure why they're missing out the first 18 episodes of Bonanza. May have to look them up on YouTube if TPTV don't show them.

Also, being a "Four Star Productions" nut, I'm enjoying the rash of Four Star Playhouse stories being shown at around 5am at the moment.

I was born about 30 years late

The first season of Bonanza had a US DVD release by CBS/Paramount (two half-season volumes), which leads me to the question of whether Talking Pictures TV have managed to a deal with CBS (I thought Noel had said on an edition of The Footage Detectives from last year that it's difficult talking to the big studios). Unless the rights to Bonanza are with someone else.

The channel has been showing some new (to TPTV) episodes of Four Star Playhouse and Star Performance of late (I very much enjoyed the twist-filled wintry-set episode shown a few weeks ago which starred Charles Boyer and Beverly Garland (called "Night at Lark Cottage").

United Kingdom The new season of The Cellar Club on TPTV

A new week has been added to the TV Schedule section on TPTV's website (for the week of Monday 25th to Sunday 31st March. Don't think either of these have been shown on the channel before (so the new season of The Cellar Club will still be airing up to and including the end of next month), but airing on Friday 29th March from 9 pm to 1 am (including Caroline Munro's intros and outros) are two eighties slashers, The House on Sorority Row (which later had a remake, Sorority Row) and Offerings (have seen Offerings, but still haven't seen the original House on Sorority Row).

In the UK, The House on Sorority Row and Offerings have had Blu-ray releases by boutique label 88 Films.

United Kingdom This week on Talking Pictures TV

A new edition of preview show What's on Talking Pictures TV with Noel (episode 10) premieres on the channel tomorrow morning at 10.10 am - 10.20 am.

Hadn't seen the CBS News report at Talking Pictures' HQ before (think it was posted on the Facebook page), until yesterday afternoon's new edition of The Footage Detectives (that was amusing about the reel chosen by the female reporter ).

Started watching last night (from this past Saturday night) The Inspector Pitt Mysteries: The Cater Street Hangman (billed in the listings as The Cater Street Hangman). Compared to The Brides in the Bath which I thought was very good, so far I have this feature-length murder mystery drama a slog (it's dragging a bit).

An episode of Star Performance aired on TPTV earlier today, starring David Niven (called "Breakfast in Bed").

An episode of Four Star Playhouse (called "Tunnel of Fear") is airing this coming Thursday morning (the cast including Sir Cedric Hardwicke and David Niven), Thursday 7th March at 5.20 am - 5.50 am.

Source: Sky TV listings and the TV Schedule section on TPTV's website.

Note: Episode 10 of What's on Talking Pictures TV with Noel is also being shown on:

Wednesday 6th March at 12.30 pm - 12.40 pm and 7.10 pm - 7.20 pm
Friday 8th March at 8.05 am - 8.15 am
Sunday 10th March at 7.45 am - 7.55 am
Monday 11th March at 8.35 am - 8.45 am
and Thursday 14th March at 6.40 am - 6.50 am.

United Kingdom The TV Schedule section on TPTV's website

A new week has been added to the TV Schedule section on TPTV's website (I checked the website earlier). The following stood out from me checking out the week of Monday 1st to Sunday 7th April:

Monday 1st April:

- Star Performance episode "The Hard Way" (airing at 10.20 am - 10.50 am)

- Turn of Fate episode "A Frame for Mourning" (airing at 12.35 pm - 1.05 pm)

Tuesday 2nd April:

- the series premiere of The Lloyd Bridges Show (episode "Wheresoever I Enter"), airing at 5 am - 5.30 am)

Friday 5th April:

- The Dick Powell Theatre episode "Death in a Village" (airing at 9.55 am - 10.55 am)

- airing as part of the new season of The Cellar Club, early-noughties film mystery Disappearance (including Caroline Munro's introduction, airing at 10.55 pm - 0.50 am)

Saturday 6th April:

- TPTV's airing of the surviving episodes of Dixon of Dock Green move into the seventies with "Waste Land" (airing at 7 pm - 8 pm). This was the first episode of the show's 17th series.

Note 1: Mentioned in last Sunday's weekly TPTV newsletter, a previously 'lost' episode of Dixon of Dock Green is airing on the channel on Saturday 29th March at 7.20 pm - 8 pm (the episode, from the fifth series, is called "Duffy Calls the Tune").

Note 2: Has this aired on TPTV before, Stranger Than Fiction (a documentary series)? Airing on Saturday 16th March at 2.20 pm - 2.50 pm.

Note 3: The source of the series number for the two Dixon of Dock Green episodes is EpGuides

Note 4: Another episode of Star Performance airing on TPTV next Monday morning (11th March) at 5.05 am - 5.35 am called "The Gun" (the cast including Dick Powell).

United Kingdom Four Star anthology series and Dangerous Assignment on Talking Pictures TV

Corrected a post I made this past Monday night. The anthology television series wasn't called Tunnel of Fear, that was the name of the episode (the show was Four Star Playhouse). I think I've seen this episode on TPTV before, but had totally forgot about what happened..and the twist. Interesting that it began and ended with a Renown Pictures logo, when whenever the various Four Star anthology series I've seen selected episodes of on the channel haven't begun and ended with the Renown logo (or ended with a CBS logo).

On a separate note, before this evening's episode of Worzel Gummidge ("The Scarecrow Wedding", the last episode of the second series (followed by the Christmas special shown on TPTV last Christmas), there was a promo for a series starting soon called Dangerous Assignment. It's got me interested (and intrigued) because boutique label MPI Home Video were planning on doing a DVD release of it, but then the title was removed from the schedule (another series called Code 3 did get a DVD release by MPI).

Dangerous Assignment starred actor Brian Donlevy. It begins on Talking Pictures TV next Tuesday evening (19th March) at 7.35 pm - 8.05 pm (source: the TV Schedule section on TPTV's website).

Dangerous Assignment looks a very interesting crime drama based on the promo and IMDB. Also, I'm a fan of Brian Donlevy from the Hammer Quatermass movies, so will definitely watch this.

Re your prior post, The Loyd Bridges Show seems a high concept show from Aaron Spelling and Four Star. I think it's probably been show before hence 5am time slot, however I've not seen it so will watch.

I have a theory that Neil BEM has permanent rights to Four Star (There seems to be no time limit on their shows being rerun) possibly on the basis that Renown (also Neil BEM I'm sure) do the remaster work for free, hence the odd random Renown Remastered logo. A quid pro quo deal would not need cash outlay from TPTV and may suit both parties as the owners get more content to sell via the remasters.

I'd got it right about the date TPTV's airing of Dangerous Assignment starts, but should have said "the Tuesday after next". I corrected late last week the Mission: Impossible on Legend posts (episode number for a few episodes mainly). If it's during the weekend break where it comes to me that I've made a mistake, I'm hoping that someone hasn't pointed it out in a negative way. I try to get everything right, and sometimes the way I've typed a post out looks 'jumbled up' (like four posts before this one in this thread).

United Kingdom Coming soon on Talking Pictures TV

Airing tomorrow night on TPTV as part of the new season of The Cellar Club is the film Amityville: Dollhouse and documentary 100 Years of Horror (the latter is hosted/presented by Sir Christopher Lee). Have set the documentary to record (along with Caroline Munro's intros for the Amityville film and horror documentary). Including Caroline Munro's intros and outros, tomorrow night's new Cellar Club will be airing from 9 pm - 1.15 am.

Having checked the IMDb, what TPTV appear to be showing of 100 Years of Horror, it's a small portion of what was a mammoth documentary series.

And a new edition of preview show What's on Talking Pictures TV with Noel (episode 11) will be premiering on the channel next Wednesday morning at 11 am - 11.10 am.
