Television! Plasma is needed,

Sub is fine, works wonderfully...but then again, one can always 'want' things - TV, another sub, an amplifier - have to make peace with myself.

For some reason, I thought you were gonna take a shot at building your own. hmph.. neither here nor there.

I'll just have to come up with another reason to tune in... hmm, I think Woody created a thread for his setup.

Oh oh - yeah, I was going to build my own, but just for fun and as a second subwoofer - then I also have a reclamation project on some 1980s Yamaha NS-A220 towers...

lol - get this - I had the 2-Disc plan from Netflix, my queue had several Short waits and Long Waits.
Upgraded to the 4-Disc - and in an instant, they're all gone. Everything is Now available...hmm...

Testing Update:

Transformers - 300 - 3:10 to Yuma - Cars - all movies I've seen many times before - and listening to them now is like night and day. I can't stop gushing over my Pioneer.

How do you hook up an amp to your system? do you plug the receiver into the amp? i never had one before but i am thinking about getting one when i do my obvious HT upgrade. and im guessing emotiva is the best brand?

And whats the difference with a pre amp?

You use RCA cables to connect the pre-outs of your receiver to the amplifier and then connect the speakers to the amplifier. The speaker terminals of the receiver will not be used. If your receiver does not have pre-outs, then you can't use an amplifier.

True - you don't need a receiver when you are using a pre-pro/amp combination. However a receiver with preouts (such as the Onkyo 706, the Yamaha 663, the Marantz receivers ect...) can be used as prepros and hand over the amplification funtions to outboard amps.

Emotiva are great for their price but I wouldnt call them the best. Brands such as Anthem, Rotel, Krell, Lexicon, Marantz, and etc. would rate among the best. But for under $1000 you cant beat the Emotiva.

TV first, 2nd sub second, and then amplifier third, Craz!

You use RCA cables from the pre-outs on your receiver (if it has them) to the amplfier, and then speaker wires to the binding posts on the amplifier. Emotiva is the best entry level brand, a lot of bang for the buck there, incredible. Leave amplifier for last though. A pre/pro (preamp/processor) basically serves the function of a receiver, decoding the audio codecs and allowing you to plug in all your gizmos and gadgets to it.

Oh, well there you go. It's best to just get a receiver that has pre-outs just in case - for future expansion.

Nope! All the functions are passed to the processor. A receiver can obviously serve as a preamp/processor as well.

Again, there you go.

I drool to have one of the Rotel DMB-1075 Amplifiers - but most likely, if and when I can afford one, it might end up being Emotiva - John swears by em (red_5ive) as well as Louie, and all the owners swear by em. But, like I said - first a 50" Panny plasma, then my 2nd Dynamo, then an amp. No time limit set,

More movie watching time! I missed out on all of yesterday thanks to a HUGE headache and football...picked up Sleeping Beauty and Horton today, want to see what all the hubbub about Sleeping Beauty is.

Emotiva, IMO, can't be beat for any price. Coming from B&K, Rotel, and many others, I can confidently say that my UPA-7 more than holds its own. Like I said previously, I'll never overpay for an amp again.

And so, just like back in September when a headache befell me after assembling my 683s, this time, a virus got to me last Sunday and pretty much rendered me useless since then - culminating in me spending New Year's Eve bedridden with a helluva fever and pounding migraine. So so now, but not enough to enjoy movies. I moved back to my mothers on the 1st, and here I am now, still useless. I look forward to being better my Monday, cuz I've pretty much wasted this entire week from Wednesday until this Sunday at least.

Hopefully, Monday I go cruising for more posters from my secret source (I put my spares in my pool room and just switch them out with the ones in my living room when the mood suits me...so far, the complete list that I've amassed available are here: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...9&postcount=20 Someone make suggestions as to which should be my next purchases!) - some more BRs at Costco, and then going to a BB to test out an ML Abyss. And still teaching my Harmony One to do everything right.

Last few movies I listened to before I had to stop were End of Days, Horton Hears a Who, Signs, Star Wars Ep. IV, and Kung Fu Panda. End of Days and Panda particularly were sonic adventures! Signs was in a class of its own with its use of the surrounds. Incredible. I was watching it with one of my lady friends, along with my little sister and her bf - terrified, the 3 of them. The presence and ambience was INCREDIBLE. Panda - that Panda...animated movies are becoming perfect showcases for the A/V geek in you with that beautiful sound they are producing them with.

I know, I find myself returning to the Ratatouille lightning and shotgun scenes as a good reference point.

lovin it JJ. I have thoroughly enjoy following this thread. I wanted to comment on the Pioneer receiver. I switched from an Onkyo 805 to the Pioneer 01 which is technically the same as the 03 you got minus a few features and I have had the exact same experience as you! The surrounds really came alive and made a world of difference, the bass is tighter and cleaner, and everything just sound waaaay better. Don't know what they do to those Pioneers but they are awesome! I'll probably buy Pio receivers from now on and thats it!
