I'm happy for you, but it is still an abomination.

It is now time for me to stream the new 2021 Dune on HBOMaxipads! I know of your aversion to all things streaming, but I am happy to be able to see this now in the safety and comfort of my own home. I'll likely buy it on 4K disc when it comes out.

Unless it’s the 3D conversion which actually works well with the unnatural ultra clean look.

I have no idea where you're getting these overinflated numbers on what I spend per year on subscription services. 1200-1444 per year is not even close to what I spend. I also don't have the patience to itemize each and everyone of the services I subscribe to, even though I already mentioned that I like to pay them at one year intervals to save more money overall.

You like to indulge on physical media when it comes to television shows. I don't, so let's leave it at that.

Not at all. I used it as an example, because it was fresh in my memory banks. It was something I could use easily as an example.

And that's just for Netflix. We can add up all of my subscriptions that I pay for, divide them per month and I would still come out ahead because I watch a lot of content (film/tv) per month. Throw in the Internet connection, as well, and I still come out ahead.

I'm sick of people who don't understand the art of leverage.
Shows that are presented by Netflix are still streamed at a lower bitrate then what you likely get when from media. I’m surprised you are arguing from a Alchav21 perspective.

If I really like a show on some streaming provider I seek out the media, because of a noticeable uptick in video quality, and because it’s offering lossless audio.

You have 12 BD TV seasons in you collection, I have 106 BD TV seasons.

That's fine, but I don't place as much value on TV shows as some do. It's a great bonus if they're in 4K/Atmos, etc., but if they're not, then that's fine, too. Sometimes I just want to binge something and if a Netflix stream is all that's available then so be it. I'm just not going to blind buy a tv show like that. As Wendell said, all of this is a luxury, not a necessity.

I might blind buy a film if the price was right, but I will not blind buy a tv show. Too expensive. There are variables involved in all of this.

EDIT - It's been years since I updated the my BD collection. I did a mass purging a few years ago. I may clean that up a bit since I probably don't have many of those anymore.

I wouldn’t blind buy a show ever either, it’s usually something from broadcast that is way higher quality that I grab before it’s only available on some streaming host I don’t want to use which is where a lot of that content disappears to. wild Wild West is a example. Somehow it wound up only on HBO Max, even though it’s a CBS title.

I watch binge when something looks attractive on Netflix, Disney for sure. All in all we all need to do that to fill in the gaps because the movie industry hasn’t completely gotten back fully.

Did you mean $100 - $120 per year? I interpreted it as $100 - $120 per month. I apologize for the mistake but this all could have been avoided if you corrected me the first time I said that you paid $100 - $120 per month.

Lets all spend however we want.

I do buy discs and I don't kid myself that I buy enough of them to encourage their continued existence.

I do what I can and I have to say I'm in the best mood but it may just be my coffee.

I have to correct you there. Film and what I watch them on is an absolute necessity to me. Up there with food, warmth, and health for my family and myself. I’m not joking either.

It's still a billion dollar industry and none of us has much influence.

Buy and let Buy.
Rent and let Rent.

This could be the 11 hour, let's just make the best of it.

I was going to bring up BB as well (since Walmart and BB where brought up in the posts) but was not sure if they actually owned cinema now or if it was some sort of partnership.

That being said like I said before when a category grows too big I chip some off in a new category. And both horror and sci-fi are Huge so they have been split into many categories, I have one called sci-fi/horror and it falls into that one.

agree, same here. Not only hat but
1) I don't see the use of it (why I never even bothered to put ratings in the 31 days of horror thread when I participate)
2) it is not just opinion, some get better or worst with age.

since there are 12 months

$100x12=$1200 and $120x12=$1440 (my guess he had a typo to make it 1444)

We have been traveling looking at fall color here in the US on the Blue Ridge Parkway's entire length. No movies and we survived just fine but we had several bottles of water and some food during that time.

I get what you are saying, capacitors, inductors, resistors, transistors, IC's, audio, video, etc. is a way of life for me and I am glad that I lived in a time when it all was available. But I do try to keep it in perspective.

I just think it is when one member tries to tell another what he or she should spend or not spend be it necessity or luxury. I am waiting to see the test results on a $25,000 projector. If really positive I may procure said projector and I sure will not apologize for it but I would never consider it a necessity. I have posted how we came to this finical position before so will not bore anyone again.
