Pardon the delay in announcing the final film in Part 2 of the @toshiaki.toyoda set!
Ran into a little hiccup with rights issues, so hope to clear it and be able to announce the final film soon!
Also, any ideas on what you'd like as a title?
Part 1 was 'The Early Years', but with Part 2 including 'Hanging Garden' it would be strange to call them 'The Later Years'. Any thoughts?
To recap; Hanging Garden is 2005, Monsters Club is 2012, Wolf's Calling is 2019 and Day of Destruction is 2020, with 1 more yet to be revealed.

Excited to see that Funky Forest and the even more obscure Warped Forest are being planned for release this summer - can't wait!

Part 2 of OTAQUEST's interview with Third Window Films is up! Covers topics including being involved in the production committee for films like Tezuka's Barbara and Sion Sono's The Land of Hope, the success of One Cut of the Dead and also upcoming release teases.

One of the films mentioned was Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes.

The 5th & final film included in the Toshiaki Toyoda Box Set 2 collection is I'm Flash (アイム・フラッシュ!), released in 2012.

A very interesting variety for this collection:
  • Hanging Garden (空中庭園) [2005]
  • Monsters Club (モンスターズクラブ) [2012]
  • I'm Flash (アイム・フラッシュ!) [2012]
  • Wolf's Calling (狼煙が呼ぶ) [2019]
  • Day of Destruction (破壊の日) [2020]

Just got my dispatch note from the Arrow store for 'Hollywood.'

Looking forward to it.

One Cut of the Dead is on Film4 tonight.

I already own the Limited Edition and am still struggling with the idea of spending £20 on the Hollywood Edition just for the 57min spin-off. Film4 showing may boost its sales a lot...but when the original Limited Edition sold well, Third Window just went and printed more than its supposed 2000 maximum, so who's to say they won't do the same this time.

It's not a purchase I'd feel happy about...but if it sold out and was on eBay for £40, would I regret it?

I'm definitely in a similar boat as well. I would love to own the Hollywood spin-off but because I already own the main film's limited edition it's like double-dipping in a sense. From what I read, it was re-authored onto a single disc this time so I don't expect a re-release to occur.

I would say, if you find it going for the £15-20 range then play it safe which is what I intend to do if that happens.

I'm always slightly reassured when it turns out I have a slipcase or something which is missing from your extensive collection, so I feel better already.

However, if Film4 normies start buying it, surely many of the copies will be destroyed by them spilling jam on it etc.

I wish TWF (hell, anyone at this point) could release Linda Linda Linda. Had to watch it on YT and it doesn't look great. Definitely a title that most companies would want nothing to do with which is unfortunate.

Man, I wish standard shipping wasn’t so pricy still otherwise I’d get it but $30 USD shipped is still way out of my comfort zone after I’ve paid much much less elsewhere for the first two sets. I don’t think it’s in too much danger of going OOP yet, right? I’m hoping it can last until the next Arrow site sale or something.

It was available on a streaming service at some point, so an HD version does exist at least.

I wouldn't want a basic release of Linda Linda Linda.
Slipcase, booklet (with lyrics in English, Japanese and romaji), reversible artwork, music video, soundtrack CD + Paramaum CD...the Japanese DVD also came with a keychain. All that please.

I believe a good film should be able to sell on its own merits, without the need for extra tat. And Linda Linda Linda is a great film, so should need only to be promoted properly.

Agreed, I'd gladly take a barebones release of Linda Linda Linda, even if anything extra would definitely be appreciated.

I can’t tell if the poster I replied to above was serious or not, the keychain thing makes me wonder, but it highlights a good point that's worth repeating: that calls for solely stacked editions might make such acquisitions less likely to happen, for simple economic reasons, if nothing else, because the more content there is on a disc, the more it costs to produce, which in turn means less profit for the label and less incentive to pick up the film in question. The idiomatic ‘less is more’ springs to mind: less upfront cost = more chance of it getting released.

Perhaps so, but when CD’s, extras and booklets are involved, I’m happy to pay the premium, they aren’t a deal breaker but they’re very much appreciated.

I want my keychain
I very rarely buy Blu-rays unless they have some limited edition aspect to them. Slipcases, Arrow's first press booklets, whatever.

With conviction that strong, I hope you get it. (But I suspect you may have to go to eBay.)

Hopefully, LLL will appear on Blu someday, in whatever form.

I know awhile back that when a release of Mr Long was mentioned you guys at TWF said that as Dangan Runner didn't sell well and that Mr Long was a riskier release that it was unlikely we'd see a release of it? Has this changed now that Dangan Runner is getting a rerelease or is it best to grab the German version rather than continue waiting for a TWF release?
