definitely not just limited to movie streaming, I am guessing the worst is most likely cryptocurrency mining.

I don't think it is going anywhere or that it will go to SD but didn't some streaming providers lower quality a few months back pretending it does not matter

unfortunately I agree with you

I can’t help feeling the likes of Disney+, Netflix etc. won’t be able to survive what’s coming. Especially if Carbon rations are imposed on families. Within the next decade they may all collapse and our entertainment and HT passions along with it.

At that point, just let me burn.

This isn’t the first time politicians have dabbled in the idea of personal carbon allowances. The British politician David Miliband raised the idea in 2006, while he was the UK’s environment secretary, citing the contribution citizens could make to tackling climate change. But a subsequent investigation by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) reported that a scheme to track everyone’s carbon use was too costly, unproven and lacked public support. Defra concluded that carbon rationing was “an idea currently ahead of its time”. With that, personal carbon allowances vanished from UK political discourse.

“It’s an idea that got high level political attention too early, and there wasn’t a research base,” says Tina Fawcett, a senior researcher at the University of Oxford’s Environmental Change Institute. “In theory it’s a great idea. In practice, it’s quite complicated. You really need research into the nitty gritty.”

Also, one of our celebs (Joanna Lumley) suggests going back to WW2 rationing, with luxury items more expensive. Hilarious, considering she has travelled all over the world and lived a life of luxury.

I wonder how the entertainment industry would survive a carbon rationing legislation.
I can see carbon rationing of some sort at the corporates level but I doubt it can be done at the individual/household level, way too complex to manage in any real and meaningful way.

But let's play devils advocate for a minute and assume it is implemented. What does it matter? it becomes a personal choice. Do I spend more of my rations on taking the car, take public transportation (medium cost) walking/bike (least cost) and save some rations for something important *(like watching films).

As to the industry, let me answer with a question. Do you think everyone that spends any money on entertainment (or internet) pays off their credit card bills every month?

I've yet to listen to the Sketchbook, but it appears to have different versions of what made it on to the final release. It's more of "demos" release, but they're all finished versions of tracks.

It matters because it would mean far fewer customers (millions) if people had to decide what to cut out. Most people drive after all and it would be a necessity.

As much as I hate it, streaming is the future. If we don’t have it, we don’t have a film future.

And here we are, 15 years later; no closer to implementing it. All it is is talk. Politicans running around with their hair on fire.

Climate Change is all talk and no action. Has been since Day One.

Which makes it all the more critical come 2030. The consumer tech industry needs to act fast.

I want to demonstrate my concern for all of this hullabaloo about "carbon rationing", European Union hysteria at its finest, by turning on every. single. thing. in my home and leaving everything on all day. I am even going to set my TVs to vivid "torch" mode and turn up the sound to "11."

The rolling blackouts to follow will be thanks to Vilya's selfishness! Bah ha ha ha! I am pure

Think about all the changes that have to come about in the next 9 years - impossible to accomplish. It's a pipe dream.

Have you read anything lately about getting rid of the two coal-fired power stations operating in the United Kingdom. They have a total generating capacity of 4.0GW.

I'm trying to decide on 10 movies to have on list to view on my new projector if I get it while I'm still alive....

Lucy, Blade Runner 2049, No Time To Die, Jaws, Crawl, 47 Meters Down Uncaged, Godzilla vs Kong, Knock Knock, Underworld, LotR

There's way more than 10 but I want be ready anyway.
Solid list. I would have to swap out Shallows for 47 Meters Down. Love the transfer on the 4K.

Yes, but we also lead the world in Wind turbine production. The coal option is a short term necessity until the fuel crisis dies down. The north east of England is exceptionally well positioned for a renewable future. We have mines that can be exploited for water and plenty of wind.
