No, you do not.

In fact, the U.K. is not even among the top 5. The top 5 wind energy producers are, in order: China, United States, Germany, India, and Spain.

This is 'Murica. There will never be carbon rationing here.

If we need more energy we can just make all of our obese citizens peddle exercise bikes connected to the power grid.

...which could result in a lot of farting leading to methane rationing instead.

This is a actual trailer for S2 now, not snippets of the s1 added like the earlier teaser trailer. Looks like the story line is suitably expanded.

COWBOY BEBOP is an action-packed space Western about three bounty hunters, aka “cowboys,” all trying to outrun the past. As different as they are deadly, Spike Spiegel (John Cho), Jet Black (Mustafa Shakir), and Faye Valentine (Daniella Pineda) form a scrappy, snarky crew ready to hunt down the solar system’s most dangerous criminals — for the right price. But they can only kick and quip their way out of so many scuffles before their pasts finally catch up with them.

Based on the beloved anime series, COWBOY BEBOP is executive produced by André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg of Midnight Radio, Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements of Tomorrow Studios, Makoto Asanuma, Shin Sasaki and Masayuki Ozaki of Sunrise Inc., Tim Coddington, Tetsu Fujimura, Michael Katleman, Matthew Weinberg, and Christopher Yost. Nemec serves as showrunner. Original anime series director Shinichirō Watanabe is a consultant on the series, and original composer Yoko Kanno returns for the live-action adaptation. The series also stars Alex Hassell and Elena Satine.

it is a false dichotomy.

1)You are pretending it is a or b when it is not. People can drive more environmentally friendly motor vehicles when they need to (hybrid/electric cars/ motorcycles), they can pick in some instances more environmentally friendly options like public transportation/walking/cycling/car pooling when a car is not "necessary").

2) let's assume you are right, people end up spending a lot more time twiddling their thumbs in the dark because they want to save some carbon rations for driving where they need to go, does it even matter? I don't remember Netflix (or any other streaming provider) having a different price for the client that has it on 24/7 and the one that only watches 1/2h per month. Almost nothing changes on Netflix's side.

It doesw not matter where someone lives the idea of a real and fair carbon rationing is preposterous and unmanageable. Let me put it this way, for some weeks now and for the next few months my garden is gone (and the same is true for local farms) any tomato I buy either came from very far away or from green house both of which have a large carbon footprint. Can you see governments trying to decide how many carbon rations the 7 tomatoes I bought yesterday have to be?

My guess the most anyone will see anywhere is some carbon sur-tax on some extra polluting activities/objects.

well at this point I don't subscribe to any streaming services. So I won't argue with you that such a point might exist where it is not worth the subscription price. But how do you know where that point is for every human being on the planet. after all according to Netflix

https://about.netflix.com/en/news/he...atching-cancel

they sent an e-mail to "a few hundred thousand" customers that pay monthly but had not watched anything for over a year.

From what I read, and some of the more far out suggestions I hs e read, we would have a food ration and then a carbon ration separate.

The food ration would be a WW2 style affair according to the ridiculous suggestion of Joanna Lumley. (Who has had luxury after luxury for decades)

Which is my point. In the future, streaming is the dominant format. Without that? It’s apocalyptic alright, at least for me.

Not sure what your point is. I just showed that according to Netflix there are "a few hundred thousand" clients that are willing to pay even if they have not used it in a year. You don't think that there will be many times more that are willing to pay if they use it 1/2 , 1/3, 1/4... of the time they do now? the vast majority of people will want to sit and watch something at some point even if it becomes a much harder option and so even in your dystopia you can't make a case for subscription streaming going anywhere (now EST is a different story). Subscription streaming is the rental of choice for many these days, that (as it has in the past) can change but only if there is something most people consider better choice. either way some form of rental will continue existing.

Thats sad about those accounts unused for over a year.

Someone could have saved that money instead. I bet a lot of it is people unaware the account is still open.

Nice of NF to check in on them.

Box Office: ‘Venom 2,’ ‘No Time to Die’ Lead October Revenue Boost - Hollywood Reporter 10/31

'Halloween Kills' and 'Dune' also assisted in delivering the best month since the pandemic began in regards to combined domestic ticket sales.

Quote:
The October box office was bountiful — at least in regards to the pandemic era.

Combined movie ticket sales in North America checked in at an estimated $637 million, according to Comscore. That’s the most revenue in any given month since the COVID-19 crisis struck, although it doesn’t break October records overall.

Leading the October 2021 domestic charge were Venom: Let There Be Carnage ($190.4 million), James Bond installment No Time to Die ($133.3 million), Halloween Kills ($85.6 million), Dune ($69.4 million) and The Addams Family 2 ($52.9 million).

Summer and the year-end holidays are generally the calendar’s box office bright spots, but this year, October was stacked with big-budget tentpoles and other event pics that were finally able to open.

Previously, the top-grossing month of the pandemic was July 2021 ($583 million), according to Comscore.

Last year, domestic box office revenue for October was a mere $55 million. That was preceded by $789 million in 2019, a record $832 million in 2018, $579 million in 2017, $659 million in 2016 and $721 million in 2015.

The stellar performance of the October 2021 box office across the globe prompted leading analytics firm Gower Street — Comscore’s London-based counterpart — to up its forecast for 2021 worldwide box office revenue from $20.2 billion to $21.6 billion.

That would be 80 percent ahead of 2020 — when numerous theaters across the globe closed up shop because of COVID-19 — but still 49 percent behind 2019.

Worldwide revenue came for October came in at an estimated $3.2 billion, 30 percent ahead of Gower’s original estimate of $2.5 billion. That would put the month just 4 percent behind a three-year average of 2017-2019.

Box office revenue in China — now the world’s largest moviegoing market — will hit $7.3 billion in 2021, says Gower. While that still won’t exceed pre-pandemic levels, including a record $9.2 billion earned in 2019, it is a huge gain over last year’s $3 billion.

The box office in North America is projected to come in at $4.7 billion, compared to $2.2 billion in 2020 (the record is 2018’s $11.8 billion, while revenue was $11.4 billion in 2019)

Box Office: ‘Dune’ Tops Halloween Heap With $15.5M; ‘Last Night in Soho’ Gets Spooked - Hollywood Reporter 10/31

Japanese anime movie 'My Hero Academia: World Heroes' Mission' was the sleeper hit of the ghoulish holiday, while 'Halloween Kills' stayed topical.

Quote:
Halloween is never a great time for moviegoing thanks to parties and trick-or-treating, and this year was no exception.

Some box office costumes were better than others: Denis Villeneueve’s Dune stayed at No. 1 in its second weekend as expected with $15.5 million from 4,125 theaters for a 10-day domestic total of $69.4 million for Legendary and Warner Bros.

Dune fell 62 percent, a relatively solid hold considering Halloween distractions.

Overseas, Dune took in $21.4 million from 75 markets, including a so-so $33 million in China, for a foreign tally of $227.7 million and $292.1 million worldwide.

Halloween Kills clearly benefited from its namesake holiday. The Universal, Miramax and Blumhouse installment held at No. 2 domestically in its third weekend with $8.5 million from 3,616 locations for an impressive domestic tally of $85.6 million and $115.1 million worldwide.

ames Bond pic No Time to Die followed at No. 3 in its third outing with $7.8 million for a domestic cume of $133.3 million and north of $600 million worldwide.

The big headline of the weekend was overseas, where No Time to Die debuted in China to $28.2 million. Like Dune last weekend, the movie’s performance in the Middle Kingdom is being impacted by a major COVID-19 breakout that is resulting in lockdowns across numerous provinces, including in parts of Beijing.

In North America, supernatural-tinged Japanese anime pic My Hero Academia: World Heroes Mission pulled off the biggest surprise of the weekend in opening to more than $6 million from only 1,600 locations to place No. 4. FUNimation is distributing the movie in the U.S. on behalf of Japan’s Toho.

Sony’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage rounded out the top five with $5.8 million domestically as it headed for the $400 million mark globally, including $190.4 million domestically and $205.4 million overseas.

The big disappointment of the trick-or-treat parade was Edgar Wright’s psychological horror film The Last Night in Soho, which, despite tons of buzz, opened to $4.2 million from 3,016 theaters in the U.S. to come in No. 6. Tracking had suggested the critically acclaimed specialty film might approach $8 million (Wright is the filmmaker behind Baby Driver.)

Wright’s movie stars Thomasin McKenzie, Anna Taylor-Joy and Matt Smith. The film also features the late Diana Rigg and Terence Stamp. “There are few bigger champions of the theatrical experience than Edgar, and we couldn’t be prouder he has made Focus his home,” Focus Features distribution president Lisa Bunnell said.

Opening a specialty film in 3,000 or so theaters can be risky.

Searchlight Pictures used the same approach for Antlers, which also hoped to parlay its supernatural themes into Halloween movie ticket sales. The results were similar. Directed by Scott Cooper and released by Searchlight Pictures, the movie debuted to an estimated $4.2 million from 2,800 cinemas to tie with Last Night in Soho. (The final order will be determined Monday.)

Overseas, Soho started off with $2.3 million and Antlers, $2.5 million.

Both Last Night in Soho and Antlers were delayed from their original 2020 releases because of the pandemic.

Also on the specialty front, Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch made a major push in its second weekend as it expanded from 52 locations in North America to 788. The results were mixed; the Searchlight movie took in $2.8 million for a 10-day domestic total of $4.6 million.
